UJesu uthi esehlangane loMatha loMariya eduze leBhethani, ahambe labo lapho okulethuna likaLazaro khona. Ithuna leli lilubhalu futhi livalwe ngelitshe. UJesu uthi: “Susani ilitshe.” UMatha kazwisisi ukuthi uJesu ufuna ukwenzani, yikho uthi: “Nkosi, khathesi kumele ukuthi usenuka ngoba sekungamalanga amane.” Kodwa uJesu uthi kuye: “Angikutshelanga yini ukuthi nxa ukholwa uzabona inkazimulo kaNkulunkulu?”​—UJohane 11:39, 40.

Ilitshe liyasuswa, uJesu abesephakamisa amehlo athandaze esithi: “Baba, ngiyabonga ukuthi ungizwile. Bengikwazi sibili ukuthi uhlala ungizwa. Kodwa ngikhulume ngenxa yexuku elimi lapha ukuze likholwe ukuthi ungithumile.” UJesu uthandaza abantu besizwa futhi lokhu kwenza babone ukuthi uzasebenzisa amandla avela kuNkulunkulu ukuze enze isimangaliso. Ngemva kokuthandaza uyamemeza ngelizwi elikhulu athi: “Lazaro, phuma!” Lakanye uLazaro uyaphuma, izandla lenyawo zakhe zithandelwe ngamaqhele lobuso bakhe buthandelwe ngelembu. UJesu uthi: “Mthukululeni limyekele ahambe.”​—UJohane 11:41-44.

AmaJuda amanengi alande ukuzoduduza uMariya loMatha ayasibona isimangaliso lesi abesekholwa kuJesu. Kodwa amanye ayasuka ayetshela abaFarisi lokho uJesu akwenzileyo. AbaFarisi labaphristi abakhokhelayo benza umhlangano womthethwandaba omkhulu wamaJuda okuthiwa yiSanihedrini. Umphristi omkhulu uKhayifasi laye ukhona emthethwandaba lo. Abanye babo bathi: “Manje senzeni njengoba indoda le isenza izimangaliso ezinengi kangaka? Nxa singayiyekela isenzenje bonke bazakholwa kuyo, amaRoma abesebuya athathe indawo yethu lesizwe sethu.” (UJohane 11:47, 48) Amadoda la akhathazeke kakhulu ngezikhundla zawo. Yikho kawathokozi ngalokho uJesu akwenzayo esebenzisa amandla kaNkulunkulu lanxa ezwe ofakazi besithi uJesu ‘wenza izimangaliso ezinengi.’

Indaba yokuvuswa kukaLazaro kayibaphathi kuhle abaSadusi ngoba kabakholwa ukuthi abafileyo bangavuswa. UKhayifasi ongumSadusi uthi: “Kalazi lutho lina, njalo kalizange licabangisise ngokuthi kunceda lina ukuthi indoda eyodwa ifele abantu kulokuthi isizwe sonke sibhujiswe.”​—UJohane 11:49, 50; ImiSebenzi 5:17; 23:8.

Lokho okutshiwo nguKhayifasi ‘akuveli ekhanda lakhe.’ Ungumphristi omkhulu yikho nguNkulunkulu owenze ukuthi akhulume amazwi la. UKhayifasi ufuna uJesu abulawe ngoba wesaba ukuthi abantu bangacina sebelandela uJesu bengasalandeli abakhokheli benkolo. Lanxa kunjalo isiphrofetho sikaKhayifasi sitshengisa ukuthi ukufa kukaJesu kwakungasoze kube yinhlawulo yamaJuda kuphela kodwa kwakuzakuba yinhlawulo yabo bonke “abantwana bakaNkulunkulu ababesabalele.”​—UJohane 11:51, 52.

ISanihedrini iyavumelana lecebo likaKhayifasi lokuthi uJesu abulawe. Kambe uNikhodemu olilunga leSanihedrini njalo omthandayo uJesu uzamncweba indlebe ngecebo leli yini? Kungelani lokuthi utsheliwe loba hatshi, uJesu uyasuka eJerusalema ukuze angabulawa isikhathi esibekwe nguNkulunkulu singakafiki.
