“When I Dey Weak, Na That Time I De Get Power”

“When I Dey Weak, Na That Time I De Get Power”

“Because of Jesus Christ, I de enjoy-am when I dey weak, when people de insult me, when I no get things wey I need, when people de suffer me, and when things hard for me.”—2 COR. 12:10.

SONG 38 God Go Make You Strong

WETIN WE GO LEARN? *

1. Wetin apostle Paul talk about e self?

APOSTLE Paul talk say sometimes, e de feel weak. E say e “body de old and de weak.” E still talk say e always de fight hard to do the correct thing and say Jehovah no always de answer e prayers for the way e be de expect. (2 Cor. 4:16; 12:7-9; Rom. 7:21-23) Paul still gree say some people be de see say e be weak person. * But Paul no allow the bad things wey other people talk or e own mistakes make-am feel say e dey useless.—2 Cor. 10:10-12, 17, 18.

2. As 2 Corinthians 12:9, 10 talk, which important lesson apostle Paul learn?

2 Paul learn better lesson. The lesson be say, person fit dey strong even when e feel say e dey weak. (Read 2 Corinthians 12:9, 10.) Jehovah tell Paul say, e de give Paul “complete power when [e] dey weak.” This one mean say, Jehovah ready to give Paul the power wey e need. To start, make we see why e no good to vex when people dey against us and de talk bad about us.

“I DE ENJOY-AM . . . WHEN PEOPLE DE INSULT ME”

3. Why we fit de enjoy-am when people de insult us?

3 Nobody among us like-am when people de insult us. But if our enemies insult us and we allow the things wey them de talk make us vex, this one fit make us feel bad. (Prov. 24:10) So, how we suppose see the things wey enemies de talk about us? Like Paul, we fit “de enjoy-am . . . when people de insult” us. (2 Cor. 12:10) Why? Because when people dey against us and talk bad about us, e de show say we be true disciples of Jesus. (1 Pet. 4:14) Jesus talk say people go suffer e disciples. (John 15:18-20) Wetin Jesus talk happen to Christians for the time of the apostles. That time, because some people allow Greek culture to control them, them de see Christians as useless and weak people. And even the Jews de see Christians as “ordinary people wey no go school,” like Peter and John. (Acts 4:13) Some people feel say Christians dey weak. Because they no de join politics and army, they no get power to defend theirself. And people no respect them for the community.

4. Wetin Christians for the time of the apostles do when people say bad things about them?

4 You think say this Christians allow make the bad things wey their enemies talk stop them? No. For example, apostle Peter and John see-am as honor when people suffer them because them de follow Jesus and de teach people about Jesus. (Acts 4:18-21; 5:27-29, 40-42) The disciples no get any reason to shame. As time de go, this humble Christians for the time of the apostles really do plenty things to help other people. For example, the books of the Bible wey some of them write de help plenty-plenty people and de give them hope. And the Kingdom wey them de preach about that time don de rule for heaven now and go soon rule reach this earth. (Matt. 24:14) The government for Rome that time get power and really suffer this Christians. But this government no dey again for plenty years. And too, this true Christians for that time de rule as kings for heaven now. But their enemies don die. And if Jehovah go bring them back to life, they go dey for this earth under that Kingdom wey the Christians wey they hate that time preach about.—Rev. 5:10.

5. As John 15:19 talk, why people for this world no de respect servants of Jehovah?

5 Today, some people no de respect us as Jehovah Witness people and de laugh us because them de think say we no go school and we dey weak. Why? Because we no de live our life the way them de live their own. We de try to dey humble, gentle and de obey. But people for the world dey proud and no dey obey. And too, we no de join politics and army of any country. Because we dey different from people for this world, they think say we no be anything.—Read John 15:19; Rom. 12:2.

6. Which big work Jehovah de use e people to do today?

6 Even though say people for this world de talk say we dey weak, Jehovah don use us to do big-big things. E de use us to do the preaching work for the whole earth. Na e servants de make books for different-different language wey people de read pass for this world, and de use Bible help plenty-plenty people to make their life better. We thank Jehovah because na e de make this one happen as e de use small group of people wey the world de think say they no be anything to do this big work. But what about each of us one by one? Jehovah fit help us to get power? If the answer na yes, wetin we fit do to get this help? Make we see three things wey we fit learn from the example of apostle Paul.

NO TRUST YOUR OWN POWER

7. Wetin be one lesson wey we fit learn from the example of Paul?

7 One lesson wey we fit learn from the example of Paul na say: No trust your own power or wetin you fit do as you de serve Jehovah. To people, Paul get plenty reason to dey proud and to trust e self. Paul grow for Tarsus, the capital of Cilicia, one of the areas wey Rome de control. Tarsus na big city and e get one popular university. Paul go big school and na Gamaliel wey people really respect that time teach Paul. (Acts 5:34; 22:3) One time, Paul na important person for the community. Paul even talk say: “I really do well for the religion of Jew people even pass people for my own age for my country.” (Gal. 1:13, 14; Acts 26:4) But Paul no trust e own power.

Paul see the things wey e de do for this world before as plenty “dirty” when e compare them with the honor wey e get to be disciple of Christ (Check paragraph 8) *

8. As Philippians 3:8 and footnote talk, how Paul see the things wey e leave, and why Paul “de enjoy-am when [e] dey weak”?

8 Paul dey happy to leave the things wey people de see as important. After some time, Paul even see this things wey e get before as plenty “dirty.” (Read Philippians 3:8 and footnote.) Paul face plenty problems when e become Christian. Even as Paul be Jew person, Jew people hate Paul. (Acts 23:12-14) People for Rome beat and put Paul for prison even though say Paul na citizen of Rome. (Acts 16:19-24, 37) Paul still know say e get sin for body and that one de make-am hard for Paul to do the correct thing. (Rom. 7:21-25) Paul no stop to follow Christ because of the problems wey e face, or because of e own mistakes. Instead Paul talk say e “de enjoy-am when [e] dey weak.” Why? Because when Paul dey weak, na that time e de see the power of God for e life.—2 Cor. 4:7; 12:10.

9. How you go feel if you no get the things wey people de see as important?

9 Make we no de think say na because of our own power, the school wey we go, where we come from or the things wey we get, go make Jehovah give us power. No be this things de make us dey important to Jehovah or de make Jehovah use us. The truth be say, no be all servants of God “be people with sense from this world, people with power, people from important family.” Instead, Jehovah don choose to use “the weak things for this world.” (1 Cor. 1:26, 27) So if you no get the things wey we talk for the beginning of this paragraph, you fit still serve Jehovah well. See your situation as chance to enjoy the power of Jehovah for your life. For example, if you de fear because people de talk against wetin you believe, pray to Jehovah make e give you strong heart to defend wetin you believe. (Eph. 6:19, 20) If you get serious sickness, beg Jehovah make e give you the power to continue to do wetin e want. Any time wey you see say Jehovah help you, your faith go grow and you go strong more-more.

LEARN FROM SOME EXAMPLES FROM BIBLE

10. Why e good make we study the examples of faithful servants of God, like the ones wey Hebrews 11:32-34 talk about?

10 Because Paul de take time study the Word of God, e learn plenty things from some servants of Jehovah when e study about them. When Paul de write to Hebrew Christians, e tell them say make them de think about the examples wey plenty faithful servants of Jehovah don show. (Read Hebrews 11:32-34.) Make we see just one of this examples, King David. David face problems from e enemies and from some people wey be e friends before. As we see the example of David, we go see how Paul gain as e think deep about the life of David and how we fit copy the example of Paul.

David no fear to fight Goliath even though say e dey young and e be like person wey no get power. David trust Jehovah because e know say e go get power from Jehovah to win Goliath, and Jehovah really give David power (Check paragraph 11)

11. Why e be like say David no get power? (Check picture for front cover.)

11 The strong soldier Goliath see David as small boy wey no get power. When Goliath see David, e “laugh and vex for David.” Goliath big pass David, e get better things for war and na soldier wey they don train well for war. E just be like say David no get power because e no get experience and the things to fight war. But the truth na say, David get power. E trust Jehovah, and Jehovah give David the power to win Goliath.—1 Sam. 17:41-45, 50.

12. Which other problem David face?

12 Another thing fit don make David feel weak. David na servant of King Saul wey Jehovah don choose to rule Israel. And David serve this king with all e heart. King Saul first respect David, but after some time, Saul start to dey proud and begin to jealous David. Saul be treat David for bad way and even try to kill David.—1 Sam. 18:6-9, 29; 19:9-11.

13. Wetin David do when King Saul treat David for bad way?

13 Even as King Saul no treat David well, David continue to show respect for the king wey Jehovah don choose. (1 Sam. 24:6) David no blame Jehovah for the bad things wey Saul do. Instead, David trust Jehovah and Jehovah give David the power to endure the problems.—Ps. 18:1, superscription.

14. Which kind problem Paul face wey be like the one wey king David face?

14 Apostle Paul face the same kind of problem wey David face. The enemies of Paul get power pass Paul. Plenty big-big people for that time hate Paul. Plenty times, they go talk say make they beat Paul and put Paul for prison. Just like e happen to David, some people wey Paul think say they be e friends treat Paul for bad way. Even some people for Christian congregation dey against Paul. (2 Cor. 12:11; Phil. 3:18) But Paul win all this people. How? Paul continue to preach even as people dey against Paul. E no leave e brothers and sisters even as they do things wey e no like. And the one wey dey important be say, e dey faithful to God to the end of e life. (2 Tim. 4:8) E do all this things no be because of e own power but because e trust Jehovah.

When people de talk against wetin you believe, try show respect and dey kind when you de explain to them wetin you believe (Check paragraph 15) *

15. Wetin we fit do when people cause us trouble, and wetin fit help us do this one?

15 Your classmates, workmates, or your family people wey no be Jehovah Witness de cause you trouble? Person for congregation don ever treat you for bad way? If your answer na yes, remember the examples of David and Paul. You fit continue to “win bad thing with good thing.” (Rom. 12:21) When people cause us trouble, we no de fight them just the way David fight Goliath. Instead, we de win bad with good as we de try to help people to learn about Jehovah and Bible. You fit do this one as you de use Bible to answer the questions of people. As you de respect and treat people well, even if they treat you for bad way. And as you de do good to everybody, even your enemies.—Matt. 5:44; 1 Pet. 3:15-17.

ACCEPT HELP FROM OTHER PEOPLE

16-17. Wetin Paul no ever forget?

16 Before apostle Paul become disciple of Christ, e be young man wey no get respect for anybody and e suffer the Christians for that time. (Acts 7:58; 1 Tim. 1:13) When Paul wey them de call Saul that time de attack the Christian congregation, Jesus stop Paul. Jesus talk to Paul from heaven and make Paul blind. Paul need to meet people wey e don suffer before so that e eye go fit open. Paul dey humble as e accept help from one disciple wey them de call Ananias and this disciple open the eye of Paul.—Acts 9:3-9, 17, 18.

17 Later, people really know Paul for congregation, but e no ever forget the lesson wey e learn from Jesus as e de go Damascus. Paul continue to dey humble, and e use all e heart accept help from e brothers and sisters. Paul talk say this brothers and sisters “really support me.”—Col. 4:10, 11, ftn.

18. Why e de hard sometimes to accept help from other people?

18 Wetin we fit learn from Paul? When we first learn the truth, we always de gree make other brothers and sisters help us because we know say we still need to learn plenty things. (1 Cor. 3:1, 2) But what of now? If we don de serve Jehovah for plenty years, and we don get plenty experience, we fit no dey ready to accept help from some brothers and sisters, especially if they never dey for truth for plenty years. But the truth na say, Jehovah de always use our brothers and sisters to encourage us. (Rom. 1:11, 12) If we want get the power wey Jehovah de give, we need to accept help from our brothers and sisters.

19. Why Paul fit do plenty wonderful things?

19 After Paul become Christian, e do plenty wonderful things. Why? Na because e learn say no be where person come from, e power, the kind school wey e go, or the money wey e get go make the person fit do plenty good things. But na when e dey humble and trust Jehovah. Make all of us follow the example of Paul (1) as we de trust Jehovah, (2) as we de learn from some examples from Bible, and (3) as we de accept help from our Christian brothers and sisters. Then, no matter how we fit de feel weak, Jehovah go make us strong!

SONG 71 We Be Jehovah’s Army!
