1 Corinthians 7:1-40

7  Περὶ Aboutδὲ butὧν which (things)ἐγράψατε, YOU wrote,καλὸν fineἀνθρώπῳ to manγυναικὸς of womanμὴ notἅπτεσθαι· to be touching; 2  διὰ throughδὲ butτὰς theπορνείας fornicationsἕκαστος each (one)τὴν theἑαυτοῦ of himselfγυναῖκα womanἐχέτω, let him be having,καὶ andἑκάστη each [woman]τὸν theἴδιον ownἄνδρα male personἐχέτω. let her be having. 3  τῇ To theγυναικὶ womantheἀνὴρ male personτὴν theὀφειλὴν debtἀποδιδότω, let him be giving off,ὁμοίως likewiseδὲ butκαὶ alsotheγυνὴ womanτῷ to theἀνδρί. male person. 4  Theγυνὴ womanτοῦ of theἰδίου ownσώματος bodyοὐκ notἐξουσιάζει is having authorityἀλλὰ buttheἀνήρ· male person;ὁμοίως likewiseδὲ butκαὶ alsotheἀνὴρ male personτοῦ of theἰδίου ownσώματος bodyοὐκ notἐξουσιάζει is having authorityἀλλὰ buttheγυνή. woman. 5  μὴ Notἀποστερεῖτε be YOU deprivingἀλλήλους, one another,εἰ ifμήτι not whatἂν likelyἐκ out ofσυμφώνου consentπρὸς towardκαιρὸν appointed timeἵνα in order thatσχολάσητε YOU might have leisureτῇ to theπροσευχῇ prayerκαὶ andπάλιν againἐπὶ uponτὸ theαὐτὸ very (thing)ἦτε, YOU may be,ἵνα in order thatμὴ notπειράζῃ may be temptingὑμᾶς YOUtheΣατανᾶς Satanδιὰ throughτὴν theἀκρασίαν lack of mightὑμῶν. of YOU. 6  τοῦτο Thisδὲ butλέγω I am sayingκατὰ according toσυγγνώμην, opinion together,οὐ notκατ’ according toἐπιταγήν. enjoinder. 7  θέλω I am willingδὲ butπάντας allἀνθρώπους menεἶναι to beὡς asκαὶ alsoἐμαυτόν· myself;ἀλλὰ butἕκαστος each (one)ἴδιον ownἔχει he is havingχάρισμα gracious giftἐκ out ofθεοῦ, God,the (one)μὲν indeedοὕτως, thus,the (one)δὲ butοὕτως. thus. 8  Λέγω I am sayingδὲ butτοῖς to theἀγάμοις unmarried (ones)καὶ andταῖς to theχήραις, widows,καλὸν fineαὐτοῖς to themἐὰν if everμείνωσιν they should remainὡς asκἀγώ· also I; 9  εἰ ifδὲ butοὐκ notἐγκρατεύονται, they are having might within,γαμησάτωσαν, let them marry,κρεῖττον betterγάρ forἐστιν it isγαμεῖν to be marryingthanπυροῦσθαι. to be being set on fire. 10  Τοῖς To the (ones)δὲ butγεγαμηκόσιν having marriedπαραγγέλλω, I am announcing beside,οὐκ notἐγὼ Iἀλλὰ buttheκύριος, Lord,γυναῖκα womanἀπὸ fromἀνδρὸς male personμὴ notχωρισθῆναι,— to be put apart,— 11  ἐὰν if everδὲ butκαὶ andχωρισθῇ, she should be put apart,μενέτω let her be remainingἄγαμος unmarriedorτῷ to theἀνδρὶ male personκαταλλαγήτω,— let her be reconciled,—καὶ andἄνδρα male personγυναῖκα womanμὴ notἀφιέναι. to be letting go off. 12  Τοῖς To theδὲ butλοιποῖς leftover (ones)λέγω am sayingἐγώ, I,οὐχ nottheκύριος· Lord;εἴ ifτις anyἀδελφὸς brotherγυναῖκα womanἔχει is havingἄπιστον, unbelieving,καὶ andαὕτη this [woman]συνευδοκεῖ is thinking well togetherοἰκεῖν to be dwellingμετ’ withαὐτοῦ, him,μὴ notἀφιέτω let him be letting go offαὐτήν· her; 13  καὶ andγυνὴ womanἥτις whoἔχει is havingἄνδρα male personἄπιστον, unbelieving,καὶ andοὗτος this [man]συνευδοκεῖ is thinking well togetherοἰκεῖν to be dwellingμετ’ withαὐτῆς, her,μὴ notἀφιέτω let her be letting go offτὸν theἄνδρα. male person. 14  ἡγίασται Has been sanctifiedγὰρ fortheἀνὴρ male persontheἄπιστος unbelievingἐν inτῇ theγυναικί, woman,καὶ andἡγίασται has been sanctifiedtheγυνὴ womantheἄπιστος unbelievingἐν inτῷ theἀδελφῷ· brother;ἐπεὶ sinceἄρα reallyτὰ theτέκνα childrenὑμῶν of YOUἀκάθαρτά unclean (ones)ἐστιν, is,νῦν nowδὲ butἅγιά holy (ones)ἐστιν. is. 15  εἰ Ifδὲ buttheἄπιστος unbelieving (one)χωρίζεται, is putting self apart,χωριζέσθω· let one be putting self apart;οὐ notδεδούλωται has been enslavedtheἀδελφὸς brotherortheἀδελφὴ sisterἐν inτοῖς theτοιούτοις, such (things),ἐν inδὲ butεἰρήνῃ peaceκέκληκεν has calledὑμᾶς YOUtheθεός. God. 16  τί Whatγὰρ forοἶδας, have you known,γύναι, woman,εἰ ifτὸν theἄνδρα male personσώσεις; you will save?Orτί whatοἶδας, have you known,ἄνερ, male person,εἰ ifτὴν theγυναῖκα womanσώσεις; you will save? 17  Εἰ Ifμὴ notἑκάστῳ to each (one)ὡς asμεμέρικεν has given parttheκύριος, Lord,ἕκαστον each (one)ὡς asκέκληκεν has calledtheθεός, God,οὕτως thusπεριπατείτω· let him be walking about;καὶ andοὕτως thusἐν inταῖς theἐκκλησίαις ecclesiasπάσαις allδιατάσσομαι. I am ordaining. 18  περιτετμημένος Having been circumcisedτις anyoneἐκλήθη; was called?μὴ Notἐπισπάσθω· let him be drawing upon;ἐν inἀκροβυστίᾳ uncircumcisionκέκληταί has been calledτις; anyone?μὴ Notπεριτεμνέσθω. let him be being circumcised. 19  Theπεριτομὴ circumcisionοὐδέν nothingἐστιν, is,καὶ andtheἀκροβυστία uncircumcisionοὐδέν nothingἐστιν, is,ἀλλὰ butτήρησις observanceἐντολῶν of commandmentsθεοῦ. of God. 20  ἕκαστος Each (one)ἐν inτῇ theκλήσει callingto whichἐκλήθη he was calledἐν inταύτῃ thisμενέτω. let him be remaining. 21  δοῦλος Slaveἐκλήθης; were you called?μή Notσοι to youμελέτω· let it be care;ἀλλ’ butεἰ ifκαὶ andδύνασαι you are ableἐλεύθερος freeγενέσθαι, to become,μᾶλλον ratherχρῆσαι. use you. 22  The (one)γὰρ forἐν inκυρίῳ Lordκληθεὶς having been calledδοῦλος slaveἀπελεύθερος freedmanκυρίου of Lordἐστίν· he is;ὁμοίως likewisetheἐλεύθερος free (one)κληθεὶς having been calledδοῦλός slaveἐστιν isΧριστοῦ. of Christ. 23  τιμῆς Of priceἠγοράσθητε· YOU were bought;μὴ notγίνεσθε be becomingδοῦλοι slavesἀνθρώπων. of men. 24  ἕκαστος Each (one)ἐν inwhich (thing)ἐκλήθη, he was called,ἀδελφοί, brothers,ἐν inτούτῳ thisμενέτω let him be remainingπαρὰ besideθεῷ. God. 25  Περὶ Aboutδὲ butτῶν theπαρθένων virginsἐπιταγὴν enjoinderκυρίου of Lordοὐκ notἔχω, I am having,γνώμην opinionδὲ butδίδωμι I am givingὡς asἠλεημένος having been shown mercyὑπὸ byκυρίου Lordπιστὸς faithfulεἶναι. to be. 26  Νομίζω I am opiningοὖν thereforeτοῦτο thisκαλὸν fineὑπάρχειν to be existingδιὰ throughτὴν theἐνεστῶσαν having stood inἀνάγκην, necessity,ὅτι thatκαλὸν fineἀνθρώπῳ to manτὸ theοὕτως thusεἶναι. to be. 27  δέδεσαι Have you been boundγυναικί; to woman?μὴ Notζήτει be seekingλύσιν· loosing;λέλυσαι have you been loosedἀπὸ fromγυναικός; woman?μὴ Notζήτει be seekingγυναῖκα· woman; 28  ἐὰν if everδὲ butκαὶ alsoγαμήσῃς, you should marry,οὐχ notἥμαρτες. you sinned.καὶ Andἐὰν if everγήμῃ should marrytheπαρθένος, virgin,οὐχ notἥμαρτεν. she sinned.θλίψιν Tribulationδὲ butτῇ to theσαρκὶ fleshἕξουσιν will haveοἱ theτοιοῦτοι, such (ones),ἐγὼ Iδὲ butὑμῶν of YOUφείδομαι. I am sparing. 29  Τοῦτο Thisδέ butφημι, I say,ἀδελφοί, brothers,theκαιρὸς appointed timeσυνεσταλμένος having been placed togetherἐστίν· is;τὸ theλοιπὸν leftover (thing)ἵνα in order thatκαὶ alsoοἱ the (ones)ἔχοντες havingγυναῖκας womenὡς asμὴ notἔχοντες havingὦσιν, they may be, 30  καὶ andοἱ the (ones)κλαίοντες weepingὡς asμὴ notκλαίοντες, weeping,καὶ andοἱ the (ones)χαίροντες rejoicingὡς asμὴ notχαίροντες, rejoicing,καὶ andοἱ the (ones)ἀγοράζοντες buyingὡς asμὴ notκατέχοντες, having down, 31  καὶ andοἱ the (ones)χρώμενοι using for selvesτὸν theκόσμον worldὡς asμὴ notκαταχρώμενοι· abusing;παράγει is going besideγὰρ forτὸ theσχῆμα fashionτοῦ of theκόσμου worldτούτου. this. 32  θέλω I am willingδὲ butὑμᾶς YOUἀμερίμνους free from anxietyεἶναι. to be.Theἄγαμος unmarried (one)μεριμνᾷ is being anxious forτὰ the (things)τοῦ of theκυρίου, Lord,πῶς howἀρέσῃ he should pleaseτῷ to theκυρίῳ· Lord; 33  the (one)δὲ butγαμήσας having marriedμεριμνᾷ is being anxious forτὰ the (things)τοῦ of theκόσμου, world,πῶς howἀρέσῃ he should pleaseτῇ to theγυναικί, woman, 34  καὶ andμεμέρισται. he has been parted.καὶ Andtheγυνὴ womantheἄγαμος unmarriedκαὶ andtheπαρθένος virginμεριμνᾷ is being anxious forτὰ the (things)τοῦ of theκυρίου, Lord,ἵνα in order thatshe may beἁγία holyκαὶ andτῷ to theσώματι bodyκαὶ andτῷ to theπνεύματι· spirit;the [woman]δὲ butγαμήσασα having marriedμεριμνᾷ is being anxious forτὰ the (things)τοῦ of theκόσμου, world,πῶς howἀρέσῃ she should pleaseτῷ to theἀνδρί. male person. 35  τοῦτο Thisδὲ butπρὸς towardτὸ theὑμῶν of YOUαὐτῶν very onesσύμφορον (thing) bearing togetherλέγω, I am saying,οὐχ notἵνα in order thatβρόχον nooseὑμῖν to YOUἐπιβάλω, I might throw upon,ἀλλὰ butπρὸς towardτὸ theεὔσχημον (thing) holding wellκαὶ andεὐπάρεδρον (thing) sitting well besideτῷ to theκυρίῳ Lordἀπερισπάστως. undistractedly. 36  Εἰ Ifδέ butτις anyoneἀσχημονεῖν to be behaving improperlyἐπὶ uponτὴν theπαρθένον virginαὐτοῦ of himνομίζει he is opiningἐὰν if evershe may beὑπέρακμος, over bloom of life,καὶ andοὕτως thusὀφείλει it is owingγίνεσθαι, to be occurring,whatθέλει he is willingποιείτω· let him be doing;οὐχ notἁμαρτάνει· he is sinning;γαμείτωσαν. let them be marrying. 37  ὃς Whoδὲ butἕστηκεν has stoodἐν inτῇ theκαρδίᾳ heartαὐτοῦ of himἑδραῖος, settled,μὴ notἔχων havingἀνάγκην, necessity,ἐξουσίαν authorityδὲ butἔχει he is havingπερὶ aboutτοῦ theἰδίου ownθελήματος, will,καὶ andτοῦτο thisκέκρικεν he has judgedἐν inτῇ theἰδίᾳ ownκαρδίᾳ, heart,τηρεῖν to be observingτὴν theἑαυτοῦ of himselfπαρθένον, virgin,καλῶς finelyποιήσει· he will do. 38  ὥστε As-andκαὶ andthe (one)γαμίζων giving in marriageτὴν theἑαυτοῦ of himselfπαρθένον virginκαλῶς finelyποιεῖ, he is doing,καὶ andthe (one)μὴ notγαμίζων giving in marriageκρεῖσσον betterποιήσει. he will do. 39  Γυνὴ Womanδέδεται has been boundἐφ’ uponὅσον as much asχρόνον timeζῇ is livingtheἀνὴρ male personαὐτῆς· of her;ἐὰν if everδὲ butκοιμηθῇ should sleeptheἀνήρ, male person,ἐλευθέρα freeἐστὶν she isto whomθέλει she is willingγαμηθῆναι, to be married,μόνον onlyἐν inκυρίῳ· Lord; 40  μακαριωτέρα happierδέ butἐστιν she isἐὰν if everοὕτως thusμείνῃ, she should remain,κατὰ according toτὴν theἐμὴν myγνώμην, opinion,δοκῶ I am thinkingγὰρ forκἀγὼ also Iπνεῦμα spiritθεοῦ of Godἔχειν. to be having.
