1 Peter 1:1-25

1  Πέτρος Peterἀπόστολος apostleἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ Christἐκλεκτοῖς to chosen (ones)παρεπιδήμοις alien residentsδιασπορᾶς of dispersionΠόντου, of Pontus,Γαλατίας, of Galatia,Καππαδοκίας, of Cappadocia,᾿Ασίας, of Asia,καὶ andΒιθυνίας, of Bithynia, 2  κατὰ according toπρόγνωσιν foreknowledgeθεοῦ of Godπατρός, Father,ἐν inἁγιασμῷ sanctificationπνεύματος, of spirit,εἰς intoὑπακοὴν obedienceκαὶ andῥαντισμὸν sprinklingαἵματος of bloodἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ· Christ; χάρις undeserved kindnessὑμῖν to YOUκαὶ andεἰρήνη peaceπληθυνθείη. may it be multiplied. 3  Εὐλογητὸς Blessedὁ theθεὸς Godκαὶ andπατὴρ Fatherτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν of usἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ, Christ,ὁ the (one)κατὰ according toτὸ theπολὺ muchαὐτοῦ of himἔλεος mercyἀναγεννήσας having generated againἡμᾶς usεἰς intoἐλπίδα hopeζῶσαν livingδι’ throughἀναστάσεως resurrectionἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ Christἐκ out ofνεκρῶν, dead (ones), 4  εἰς intoκληρονομίαν inheritanceἄφθαρτον incorruptibleκαὶ andἀμίαντον undefiledκαὶ andἀμάραντον, unfading,τετηρημένην having been keptἐν inοὐρανοῖς heavensεἰς intoὑμᾶς YOU 5  τοὺς the (ones)ἐν inδυνάμει powerθεοῦ of Godφρουρουμένους being kept under watchδιὰ throughπίστεως faithεἰς intoσωτηρίαν salvationἑτοίμην readyἀποκαλυφθῆναι to be revealedἐν inκαιρῷ appointed timeἐσχάτῳ. last. 6  ἐν Inᾧ whichἀγαλλιᾶσθε, YOU are exulting,ὀλίγον little [while]ἄρτι right nowεἰ ifδέον being bindingλυπηθέντες having been grievedἐν inποικίλοις variousπειρασμοῖς, trials, 7  ἵνα in order thatτὸ theδοκίμιον proofὑμῶν of YOUτῆς of theπίστεως faithπολυτιμότερον much more preciousχρυσίου of goldτοῦ of the (one)ἀπολλυμένου destroying selfδιὰ throughπυρὸς fireδὲ butδοκιμαζομένου of (one) being provedεὑρεθῇ it might be foundεἰς intoἔπαινον praiseκαὶ andδόξαν gloryκαὶ andτιμὴν honorἐν inἀποκαλύψει revelationἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ. Christ. 8  ὃν Whomοὐκ notἰδόντες having seenἀγαπᾶτε, YOU are loving,εἰς intoὃν whomἄρτι right nowμὴ notὁρῶντες seeingπιστεύοντες believingδὲ butἀγαλλιᾶτε YOU are exultingχαρᾷ to joyἀνεκλαλήτῳ unspeakableκαὶ andδεδοξασμένῃ, having been glorified, 9  κομιζόμενοι carrying off for selvesτὸ theτέλος endτῆς of theπίστεως faithσωτηρίαν salvationψυχῶν. of souls. 10  Περὶ Aboutἧς whichσωτηρίας salvationἐξεζήτησαν they sought outκαὶ andἐξηραύνησαν searched outπροφῆται prophetsοἱ the (ones)περὶ aboutτῆς theεἰς intoὑμᾶς YOUχάριτος undeserved kindnessπροφητεύσαντες, having prophesied, 11  ἐραυνῶντες searchingεἰς intoτίνα whatἢ orποῖον what sort ofκαιρὸν appointed timeἐδήλου was making evidentτὸ theἐν inαὐτοῖς themπνεῦμα spiritΧριστοῦ of Christπρομαρτυρόμενον witnessing beforehand aboutτὰ theεἰς intoΧριστὸν Christπαθήματα sufferingsκαὶ andτὰς theμετὰ afterταῦτα these (things)δόξας· glories; 12  οἷς to which (ones)ἀπεκαλύφθη it was revealedὅτι thatοὐχ notἑαυτοῖς to themselvesὑμῖν to YOUδὲ butδιηκόνουν they were servingαὐτά, them,ἃ which (things)νῦν nowἀνηγγέλη was announcedὑμῖν to YOUδιὰ throughτῶν the (ones)εὐαγγελισαμένων having declared good news toὑμᾶς YOUπνεύματι to spiritἁγίῳ holyἀποσταλέντι having been sent forthἀπ’ fromοὐρανοῦ, heaven,εἰς intoἃ which (things)ἐπιθυμοῦσιν are desiringἄγγελοι angelsπαρακύψαι. to stoop beside. 13  Διὸ Through whichἀναζωσάμενοι having girded up for selvesτὰς theὀσφύας loinsτῆς of theδιανοίας mental perceptionὑμῶν, of YOU,νήφοντες being soberτελείως, perfectly,ἐλπίσατε hope YOUἐπὶ uponτὴν theφερομένην being borneὑμῖν to YOUχάριν undeserved kindnessἐν inἀποκαλύψει revelationἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ. Christ. 14  ὡς Asτέκνα childrenὑπακοῆς, of obedience,μὴ notσυνσχηματιζόμενοι fashioning yourselves withταῖς to theπρότερον formerlyἐν inτῇ theἀγνοίᾳ ignoranceὑμῶν of YOUἐπιθυμίαις, to desires, 15  ἀλλὰ butκατὰ according toτὸν the (one)καλέσαντα having calledὑμᾶς YOUἅγιον holy (one)καὶ alsoαὐτοὶ very (ones)ἅγιοι holy (ones)ἐν inπάσῃ allἀναστροφῇ conductγενήθητε, YOU become, 16  διότι through whichγέγραπται it has been writtenὅτι thatἍγιοι Holyἔσεσθε, YOU will be,ὅτι becauseἐγὼ Iἅγιος. holy. 17  καὶ Andεἰ ifπατέρα Fatherἐπικαλεῖσθε YOU are calling uponτὸν the (one)ἀπροσωπολήμπτως without reception of facesκρίνοντα judgingκατὰ according toτὸ theἑκάστου of each oneἔργον, work,ἐν inφόβῳ fearτὸν theτῆς of theπαροικίας dwelling besideὑμῶν of YOUχρόνον timeἀναστράφητε· be YOU turned back; 18  εἰδότες having knownὅτι thatοὐ notφθαρτοῖς, to corruptible (things),ἀργυρίῳ to silverἢ orχρυσίῳ, to gold,ἐλυτρώθητε YOU were freed by ransomἐκ out ofτῆς theματαίας vainὑμῶν of YOUἀναστροφῆς conductπατροπαραδότου, given along from fathers, 19  ἀλλὰ butτιμίῳ to preciousαἵματι bloodὡς asἀμνοῦ of lambἀμώμου unblemishedκαὶ andἀσπίλου spotlessΧριστοῦ, of Christ, 20  προεγνωσμένου of (one) having been foreknownμὲν indeedπρὸ beforeκαταβολῆς throwing downκόσμου, of world,φανερωθέντος of (one) having been manifestedδὲ butἐπ’ uponἐσχάτου last [part]τῶν of theχρόνων timesδι’ throughὑμᾶς YOU 21  τοὺς the (ones)δι’ throughαὐτοῦ himπιστοὺς faithfulεἰς intoθεὸν Godτὸν the (one)ἐγείραντα having raised upαὐτὸν himἐκ out ofνεκρῶν dead (ones)καὶ andδόξαν gloryαὐτῷ to himδόντα, having given,ὥστε as-andτὴν theπίστιν faithὑμῶν of YOUκαὶ andἐλπίδα hopeεἶναι to beεἰς intoθεόν. God. 22  Τὰς Theψυχὰς soulsὑμῶν of YOUἡγνικότες having purifiedἐν inτῇ theὑπακοῇ obedienceτῆς of theἀληθείας truthεἰς intoφιλαδελφίαν brotherly affectionἀνυπόκριτον unhypocriticalἐκ out ofκαρδίας heartἀλλήλους one anotherἀγαπήσατε love YOUἐκτενῶς, outstretchedly, 23  ἀναγεγεννημένοι having been generated againοὐκ notἐκ out ofσπορᾶς seedφθαρτῆς corruptibleἀλλὰ butἀφθάρτου, incorruptible,διὰ throughλόγου wordζῶντος of livingθεοῦ Godκαὶ andμένοντος· remaining; 24  διότι through whichπᾶσα allσὰρξ fleshὡς asχόρτος, vegetation,καὶ andπᾶσα allδόξα gloryαὐτῆς of itὡς asἄνθος flowerχόρτου· of vegetation;ἐξηράνθη was dried upὁ theχόρτος, vegetation,καὶ andτὸ theἄνθος flowerἐξέπεσεν· fell off; 25  τὸ theδὲ butῥῆμα sayingΚυρίου of Lordμένει is remainingεἰς intoτὸν theαἰῶνα. age.τοῦτο Thisδέ butἐστιν isτὸ theῥῆμα sayingτὸ the (one)εὐαγγελισθὲν having been declared as good newsεἰς intoὑμᾶς.
