1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

1  Παῦλος Paulκαὶ andΣιλουανὸς Silvanusκαὶ andΤιμόθεος Timothyτῇ to theἐκκλησίᾳ ecclesiaΘεσσαλονικέων of Thessaloniansἐν inθεῷ Godπατρὶ Fatherκαὶ andκυρίῳ to LordἸησοῦ JesusΧριστῷ· Christ; χάρις undeserved kindnessὑμῖν to YOUκαὶ andεἰρήνη. peace. 2  Εὐχαριστοῦμεν We are giving thanksτῷ to theθεῷ Godπάντοτε alwaysπερὶ aboutπάντων allὑμῶν of YOUμνείαν mentionποιούμενοι makingἐπὶ uponτῶν theπροσευχῶν prayersἡμῶν, of us, 3  ἀδιαλείπτως incessantlyμνημονεύοντες bearing in mindὑμῶν of YOUτοῦ of theἔργου workτῆς of theπίστεως faithκαὶ andτοῦ of theκόπου laborτῆς of theἀγάπης loveκαὶ andτῆς of theὑπομονῆς enduranceτῆς of theἐλπίδος hopeτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν of usἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ Christἔμπροσθεν in frontτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαὶ andπατρὸς Fatherἡμῶν, of us, 4  εἰδότες, having known,ἀδελφοὶ brothersἠγαπημένοι having been lovedὑπὸ byτοῦ theθεοῦ, God,τὴν theἐκλογὴν choosingὑμῶν, of YOU, 5  ὅτι thatτὸ theεὐαγγέλιον good newsἡμῶν of usοὐκ notἐγενήθη becameεἰς intoὑμᾶς YOUἐν inλόγῳ wordμόνον onlyἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoἐν inδυνάμει powerκαὶ andἐν inπνεύματι spiritἁγίῳ holyκαὶ andπληροφορίᾳ full assuranceπολλῇ, much,καθὼς according asοἴδατε YOU have knownοἷοι what sort of onesἐγενήθημεν we becameὑμῖν to YOUδι’ throughὑμᾶς· YOU; 6  καὶ andὑμεῖς YOUμιμηταὶ imitatorsἡμῶν of usἐγενήθητε YOU becameκαὶ andτοῦ of theκυρίου, Lord,δεξάμενοι having acceptedτὸν theλόγον wordἐν inθλίψει tribulationπολλῇ muchμετὰ withχαρᾶς joyπνεύματος of spiritἁγίου, holy, 7  ὥστε as-andγενέσθαι to becomeὑμᾶς YOUτύπον typeπᾶσιν to allτοῖς the (ones)πιστεύουσιν believingἐν inτῇ theΜακεδονίᾳ Macedoniaκαὶ andἐν inτῇ the᾿Αχαίᾳ. Achaia. 8  ἀφ’ Fromὑμῶν YOUγὰρ forἐξήχηται has been sounded outὁ theλόγος wordτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordοὐ notμόνον onlyἐν inτῇ theΜακεδονίᾳ Macedoniaκαὶ and᾿Αχαίᾳ, Achaia,ἀλλ’ butἐν inπαντὶ everyτόπῳ placeἡ theπίστις faithὑμῶν of YOUἡ the (one)πρὸς towardτὸν theθεὸν godἐξελήλυθεν, has gone out,ὥστε as-andμὴ notχρείαν needἔχειν to be havingἡμᾶς usλαλεῖν to be speakingτι· anything; 9  αὐτοὶ theyγὰρ forπερὶ aboutἡμῶν usἀπαγγέλλουσιν they are reporting backὁποίαν what sort ofεἴσοδον way intoἔσχομεν we hadπρὸς towardὑμᾶς, YOU,καὶ andπῶς howἐπεστρέψατε YOU turned uponπρὸς towardτὸν theθεὸν Godἀπὸ fromτῶν theεἰδώλων idolsδουλεύειν to be slavingθεῷ to Godζῶντι livingκαὶ andἀληθινῷ, true, 10  καὶ andἀναμένειν to be remaining upτὸν theυἱὸν Sonαὐτοῦ of himἐκ out ofτῶν theοὐρανῶν, heavens,ὃν whomἤγειρεν he raisedἐκ out ofτῶν theνεκρῶν, dead (ones),Ἰησοῦν Jesusτὸν the (one)ῥυόμενον drawing to selfἡμᾶς usἐκ out ofτῆς theὀργῆς wrathτῆς the (one)ἐρχομένης. coming.
