1 Thessalonians 3:1-13

3  Διὸ Through whichμηκέτι not yetστέγοντες bearing upηὐδοκήσαμεν we thought wellκαταλειφθῆναι to be left downἐν in᾿Αθήναις Athensμόνοι, (ones) alone, 2  καὶ andἐπέμψαμεν we sentΤιμόθεον, Timothy,τὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherἡμῶν of usκαὶ andδιάκονον servantτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἐν inτῷ theεὐαγγελίῳ good newsτοῦ of theχριστοῦ, Christ,εἰς intoτὸ theστηρίξαι to fix firmlyὑμᾶς YOUκαὶ andπαρακαλέσαι to comfortὑπὲρ overτῆς theπίστεως faithὑμῶν of YOU 3  τὸ theμηδένα no oneσαίνεσθαι to be swayedἐν inταῖς theθλίψεσιν tribulationsταύταις. these.αὐτοὶ Very (ones)γὰρ forοἴδατε YOU have knownὅτι thatεἰς intoτοῦτο this (thing)κείμεθα· we are lying; 4  καὶ andγὰρ forὅτε whenπρὸς towardὑμᾶς YOUἦμεν, we were,προελέγομεν we were saying beforeὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatμέλλομεν we are aboutθλίβεσθαι, to be suffering tribulation,καθὼς according asκαὶ alsoἐγένετο it has occurredκαὶ andοἴδατε. YOU have known. 5  διὰ Throughτοῦτο thisκἀγὼ also Iμηκέτι not yetστέγων bearing upἔπεμψα I sentεἰς intoτὸ theγνῶναι to knowτὴν theπίστιν faithὑμῶν, of YOU,μή notπως somehowἐπείρασεν he temptedὑμᾶς YOUὁ the (one)πειράζων temptingκαὶ andεἰς intoκενὸν empti (ness)γένηται might becomeὁ theκόπος laborἡμῶν. of us. 6  Ἄρτι Right nowδὲ butἐλθόντος having comeΤιμοθέου of Timothyπρὸς towardἡμᾶς usἀφ’ fromὑμῶν YOUκαὶ andεὐαγγελισαμένου having given good news ofἡμῖν to usτὴν theπίστιν faithκαὶ andτὴν theἀγάπην loveὑμῶν, of YOU,καὶ andὅτι thatἔχετε YOU are havingμνείαν remembranceἡμῶν of usἀγαθὴν goodπάντοτε alwaysἐπιποθοῦντες yearningἡμᾶς usἰδεῖν to seeκαθάπερ according to which (things) evenκαὶ alsoἡμεῖς weὑμᾶς, YOU, 7  διὰ throughτοῦτο thisπαρεκλήθημεν, we were comforted,ἀδελφοί, brothers,ἐφ’ uponὑμῖν YOUἐπὶ uponπάσῃ allτῇ theἀνάγκῃ necessityκαὶ andθλίψει tribulationἡμῶν of usδιὰ throughτῆς theὑμῶν of YOUπίστεως, faith, 8  ὅτι becauseνῦν nowζῶμεν we are livingἐὰν if everὑμεῖς YOUστήκετε are standingἐν inκυρίῳ. Lord. 9  τίνα Whatγὰρ forεὐχαριστίαν thanksgivingδυνάμεθα we are ableτῷ to theθεῷ Godἀνταποδοῦναι to give back insteadπερὶ aboutὑμῶν YOUἐπὶ uponπάσῃ allτῇ theχαρᾷ joyᾗ to whichχαίρομεν we are rejoicingδι’ throughὑμᾶς YOUἔμπροσθεν in frontτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἡμῶν, of us, 10  νυκτὸς of nightκαὶ andἡμέρας of dayὑπερεκπερισσοῦ superabundantlyδεόμενοι supplicatingεἰς intoτὸ theἰδεῖν to seeὑμῶν of YOUτὸ theπρόσωπον faceκαὶ andκαταρτίσαι to adjust downτὰ theὑστερήματα (things) lackingτῆς of theπίστεως faithὑμῶν; of YOU? 11  Αὐτὸς Very (one)δὲ butὁ theθεὸς Godκαὶ andπατὴρ Fatherἡμῶν of usκαὶ andὁ theκύριος Lordἡμῶν of usἸησοῦς Jesusκατευθύναι may he straighten downτὴν theὁδὸν wayἡμῶν of usπρὸς towardὑμᾶς· YOU; 12  ὑμᾶς YOUδὲ butὁ theκύριος Lordπλεονάσαι may cause to become moreκαὶ andπερισσεύσαι may make aboundτῇ to theἀγάπῃ loveεἰς intoἀλλήλους one anotherκαὶ andεἰς intoπάντας, all (ones),καθάπερ according to which (things) evenκαὶ alsoἡμεῖς weεἰς intoὑμᾶς, YOU, 13  εἰς intoτὸ theστηρίξαι to fix firmlyὑμῶν of YOUτὰς theκαρδίας heartsἀμέμπτους unblamableἐν inἁγιωσύνῃ holinessἔμπροσθεν in frontτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαὶ andπατρὸς Fatherἡμῶν of usἐν inτῇ theπαρουσίᾳ presenceτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν of usἸησοῦ Jesusμετὰ withπάντων allτῶν theἁγίων holy (ones)αὐτοῦ. of him.
