1 Timothy 4:1-16

4  Τὸ Theδὲ butπνεῦμα spiritῥητῶς spokenlyλέγει is sayingὅτι thatἐν inὑστέροις laterκαιροῖς appointed timesἀποστήσονταί will stand awayτινες someτῆς of theπίστεως, faith,προσέχοντες having [mind] towardπνεύμασι to spiritsπλάνοις errantsκαὶ andδιδασκαλίαις to teachingsδαιμονίων of demons 2  ἐν inὑποκρίσει hypocrisyψευδολόγων, of sayers of lies,κεκαυστηριασμένων of (ones) having been branded with hot ironτὴν theἰδίαν ownσυνείδησιν, conscience, 3  κωλυόντων of (ones) forbiddingγαμεῖν, to be marrying,ἀπέχεσθαι to be holding selves fromβρωμάτων foodswhichtheθεὸς Godἔκτισεν createdεἰς intoμετάλημψιν partakingμετὰ withεὐχαριστίας thanksgivingτοῖς to theπιστοῖς faithful onesκαὶ andἐπεγνωκόσι to (ones) having accurately knownτὴν theἀλήθειαν. truth. 4  ὅτι Becauseπᾶν everyκτίσμα creationθεοῦ of Godκαλόν, fine,καὶ andοὐδὲν nothingἀπόβλητον to be thrown awayμετὰ withεὐχαριστίας thanksgivingλαμβανόμενον, being received, 5  ἁγιάζεται it is being sanctifiedγὰρ forδιὰ throughλόγου wordθεοῦ of Godκαὶ andἐντεύξεως. intercession. 6  Ταῦτα These (things)ὑποτιθέμενος putting underτοῖς to theἀδελφοῖς brothersκαλὸς fineἔσῃ you will beδιάκονος servantΧριστοῦ of ChristἸησοῦ, Jesus,ἐντρεφόμενος being nourished onτοῖς to theλόγοις wordsτῆς of theπίστεως faithκαὶ andτῆς of theκαλῆς fineδιδασκαλίας teachingto whichπαρηκολούθηκας, you have followed alongside, 7  τοὺς theδὲ butβεβήλους profaneκαὶ andγραώδεις old-womanishμύθους mythsπαραιτοῦ. be asking off for yourself.γύμναζε Be training (as gymnast)δὲ butσεαυτὸν yourselfπρὸς towardεὐσέβειαν· revering well; 8  theγὰρ forσωματικὴ bodilyγυμνασία training (as gymnast)πρὸς towardὀλίγον littleἐστὶν isὠφέλιμος, beneficial,theδὲ butεὐσέβεια revering wellπρὸς towardπάντα all (things)ὠφέλιμός beneficialἐστιν, is,ἐπαγγελίαν promiseἔχουσα havingζωῆς of lifeτῆς of the (one)νῦν nowκαὶ andτῆς of the (one)μελλούσης. being about (to come). 9  πιστὸς Faithfultheλόγος wordκαὶ andπάσης of allἀποδοχῆς reception backἄξιος, worthy, 10  εἰς intoτοῦτο thisγὰρ forκοπιῶμεν we are laboringκαὶ andἀγωνιζόμεθα, we are struggling,ὅτι becauseἠλπίκαμεν we have hopedἐπὶ uponθεῷ Godζῶντι, living,ὅς whoἐστιν isσωτὴρ Saviorπάντων of allἀνθρώπων, men,μάλιστα mostlyπιστῶν. of faithful (ones). 11  Παράγγελλε Be you chargingταῦτα these (things)καὶ andδίδασκε. be you teaching. 12  μηδείς No oneσου of youτῆς of theνεότητος youthκαταφρονείτω, let him be thinking down on,ἀλλὰ butτύπος typeγίνου be becomingτῶν of theπιστῶν faithful (ones)ἐν inλόγῳ, word,ἐν inἀναστροφῇ, conduct,ἐν inἀγάπῃ, love,ἐν inπίστει, faith,ἐν inἁγνίᾳ. chasteness. 13  ἕως Untilἔρχομαι I am comingπρόσεχε be you having [mind] towardτῇ to theἀναγνώσει, reading,τῇ to theπαρακλήσει, encouraging,τῇ to theδιδασκαλίᾳ. teaching. 14  μὴ Notἀμέλει be your being carelessτοῦ of theἐν inσοὶ youχαρίσματος, gracious gift,whichἐδόθη was givenσοι to youδιὰ throughπροφητείας prophecyμετὰ withἐπιθέσεως putting uponτῶν of theχειρῶν handsτοῦ of theπρεσβυτερίου. presbytery. 15  ταῦτα These (things)μελέτα, be meditating on,ἐν inτούτοις these (things)ἴσθι, be you,ἵνα in order thatσου of youtheπροκοπὴ striking forwardφανερὰ manifestmay beπᾶσιν· to all (ones); 16  ἔπεχε be you having [mind] uponσεαυτῷ to yourselfκαὶ andτῇ to theδιδασκαλίᾳ· teaching;ἐπίμενε be you remaining uponαὐτοῖς· to them;τοῦτο thisγὰρ forποιῶν doingκαὶ andσεαυτὸν yourselfσώσεις you will saveκαὶ andτοὺς the (ones)ἀκούοντάς hearingσου. of you.
