2 Corinthians 8:1-24

8  Γνωρίζομεν We are making knownδὲ butὑμῖν, to YOU,ἀδελφοί, brothers,τὴν theχάριν undeserved kindnessτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godτὴν the (one)δεδομένην having been givenἐν inταῖς theἐκκλησίαις ecclesiasτῆς of theΜακεδονίας, Macedonia, 2  ὅτι thatἐν inπολλῇ muchδοκιμῇ proofθλίψεως of tribulationἡ theπερισσεία abundanceτῆς of theχαρᾶς joyαὐτῶν of themκαὶ andἡ theκατὰ downβάθους depthπτωχεία poornessαὐτῶν of themἐπερίσσευσεν aboundedεἰς intoτὸ theπλοῦτος richesτῆς of theἁπλότητος simplicityαὐτῶν· of them; 3  ὅτι becauseκατὰ according toδύναμιν, power,μαρτυρῶ, I am bearing witness,καὶ andπαρὰ besideδύναμιν, power,αὐθαίρετοι self-undertaking (ones) 4  μετὰ withπολλῆς muchπαρακλήσεως entreatyδεόμενοι supplicatingἡμῶν, of us,τὴν theχάριν undeserved kindnessκαὶ andτὴν theκοινωνίαν sharingτῆς of theδιακονίας serviceτῆς the (one)εἰς intoτοὺς theἁγίους,— holy (ones),— 5  καὶ andοὐ notκαθὼς according asἠλπίσαμεν we hopedἀλλ’ butἑαυτοὺς themselvesἔδωκαν they gaveπρῶτον firstτῷ to theκυρίῳ Lordκαὶ andἡμῖν to usδιὰ throughθελήματος willθεοῦ, of God, 6  εἰς intoτὸ theπαρακαλέσαι to encourageἡμᾶς usΤίτον Titusἵνα in order thatκαθὼς according asπροενήρξατο he made beginning beforeοὕτως thusκαὶ alsoἐπιτελέσῃ he should put end uponεἰς intoὑμᾶς YOUκαὶ alsoτὴν theχάριν undeserved kindnessταύτην· this; 7  ἀλλ’ butὥσπερ as-evenἐν inπαντὶ everythingπερισσεύετε, YOU are abounding,πίστει to faithκαὶ andλόγῳ to wordκαὶ andγνώσει to knowledgeκαὶ andπάσῃ to allσπουδῇ speed upκαὶ andτῇ to theἐξ out ofἡμῶν usἐν inὑμῖν YOUἀγάπῃ, to love,ἵνα in order thatκαὶ alsoἐν inταύτῃ thisτῇ theχάριτι undeserved kindnessπερισσεύητε. YOU may be abounding. 8  Οὐ Notκατ’ according toἐπιταγὴν enjoinderλέγω, I am saying,ἀλλὰ butδιὰ throughτῆς theἑτέρων of different (ones)σπουδῆς speed upκαὶ andτὸ theτῆς of theὑμετέρας YOURἀγάπης loveγνήσιον genuine (ness)δοκιμάζων· [I] proving; 9  γινώσκετε YOU are knowingγὰρ forτὴν theχάριν undeserved kindnessτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν of usἸησοῦ of JesusΧριστοῦ, Christ,ὅτι thatδι’ throughὑμᾶς YOUἐπτώχευσεν he became poorπλούσιος richὤν, being,ἵνα in order thatὑμεῖς YOUτῇ to theἐκείνου of that (one)πτωχείᾳ poornessπλουτήσητε. YOU might become rich. 10  καὶ Andγνώμην opinionἐν inτούτῳ thisδίδωμι· I am giving;τοῦτο thisγὰρ forὑμῖν to YOUσυμφέρει, is bearing with,οἵτινες whoοὐ notμόνον onlyτὸ theποιῆσαι to doἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoτὸ theθέλειν to be willingπροενήρξασθε YOU made beginning beforeἀπὸ fromπέρυσι· last year; 11  νυνὶ nowδὲ butκαὶ andτὸ theποιῆσαι to doἐπιτελέσατε, YOU put end upon,ὅπως so thatκαθάπερ according to which (things) evenἡ theπροθυμία fore-spiritednessτοῦ of theθέλειν to be willingοὕτως thusκαὶ alsoτὸ theἐπιτελέσαι to put end uponἐκ out ofτοῦ theἔχειν. to be having. 12  εἰ Ifγὰρ forἡ theπροθυμία fore-spiritednessπρόκειται, is lying before,καθὸ according to whatἐὰν if everἔχῃ one may be havingεὐπρόσδεκτος, well acceptable toward,οὐ notκαθὸ according to whatοὐκ notἔχει. one is having. 13  οὐ Notγὰρ forἵνα in order thatἄλλοις to othersἄνεσις, letting off up,ὑμῖν to YOUθλίψις· tribulation; 14  ἀλλ’ butἐξ out ofἰσότητος equalityἐν inτῷ theνῦν nowκαιρῷ appointed timeτὸ theὑμῶν of YOUπερίσσευμα abundancyεἰς intoτὸ theἐκείνων of thoseὑστέρημα, coming behind,ἵνα in order thatκαὶ alsoτὸ theἐκείνων of thoseπερίσσευμα abundancyγένηται might becomeεἰς intoτὸ theὑμῶν of YOUὑστέρημα, coming behind,ὅπως so thatγένηται might becomeἰσότης· equality; 15  καθὼς according asγέγραπται it has been writtenὉ The (one)τὸ theπολὺ muchοὐκ notἐπλεόνασεν, he had more (than enough),καὶ andὁ the (one)τὸ theὀλίγον littleοὐκ notἠλαττόνησεν. he had less. 16  Χάρις Thanksδὲ butτῷ to theθεῷ Godτῷ the (one)διδόντι givingτὴν theαὐτὴν veryσπουδὴν speedupὑπὲρ overὑμῶν YOUἐν inτῇ theκαρδίᾳ heartΤίτου, of Titus, 17  ὅτι becauseτὴν theμὲν indeedπαράκλησιν encouragementἐδέξατο, he accepted,σπουδαιότερος (one) more speedyδὲ butὑπάρχων beingαὐθαίρετος self-undertaking (one)ἐξῆλθεν he came outπρὸς towardὑμᾶς. YOU. 18  συνεπέμψαμεν We sent together withδὲ butμετ’ withαὐτοῦ himτὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherοὗ of whomὁ theἔπαινος praiseἐν inτῷ theεὐαγγελίῳ good newsδιὰ throughπασῶν allτῶν theἐκκλησιῶν,— ecclesias,— 19  οὐ notμόνον onlyδὲ butἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoχειροτονηθεὶς having been put by outstretched handsὑπὸ byτῶν theἐκκλησιῶν ecclesiasσυνέκδημος (one) out of (own) people togetherἡμῶν of usἐν inτῇ theχάριτι undeserved kindnessταύτῃ thisτῇ the (one)διακονουμένῃ being servedὑφ’ byἡμῶν usπρὸς towardτὴν theτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordδόξαν gloryκαὶ andπροθυμίαν fore-spiritednessἡμῶν,— of us,— 20  στελλόμενοι arranging for selvesτοῦτο thisμή notτις anyoneἡμᾶς usμωμήσηται should make spottedἐν inτῇ theἁδρότητι liberalityταύτῃ thisτῇ the (one)διακονουμένῃ been servedὑφ’ byἡμῶν, us, 21  προνοοῦμεν we are minding beforehandγὰρ forκαλὰ fine (things)οὐ notμόνον onlyἐνώπιον in sightΚυρίου of Lordἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoἐνώπιον in sightἀνθρώπων. of men. 22  συνεπέμψαμεν We sent withδὲ butαὐτοῖς to themτὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherἡμῶν of usὃν whomἐδοκιμάσαμεν we provedἐν inπολλοῖς many (things)πολλάκις many (times)σπουδαῖον speedyὄντα, being,νυνὶ nowδὲ butπολὺ muchσπουδαιότερον more speedyπεποιθήσει to confidenceπολλῇ muchτῇ the (one)εἰς intoὑμᾶς. YOU. 23  εἴτε Whetherὑπὲρ overΤίτου, Titus,κοινωνὸς sharerἐμὸς myκαὶ andεἰς intoὑμᾶς YOUσυνεργός· co-worker;εἴτε orἀδελφοὶ brothersἡμῶν, of us,ἀπόστολοι apostlesἐκκλησιῶν, of ecclesias,δόξα gloryΧριστοῦ. of Christ. 24  Τὴν Theοὖν thereforeἔνδειξιν demonstrationτῆς of theἀγάπης loveὑμῶν of YOUκαὶ andἡμῶν of usκαυχήσεως of boastingὑπὲρ overὑμῶν YOUεἰς intoαὐτοὺς themἐνδείξασθε demonstrate YOUεἰς intoπρόσωπον faceτῶν of theἐκκλησιῶν. ecclesias.
