2 Timothy 1:1-18

1  Παῦλος Paulἀπόστολος apostleΧριστοῦ of ChristἸησοῦ Jesusδιὰ throughθελήματος willθεοῦ of Godκατ’ according toἐπαγγελίαν promiseζωῆς of lifeτῆς theἐν inΧριστῷ ChristἸησοῦ Jesus 2  Τιμοθέῳ to Timothyἀγαπητῷ lovedτέκνῳ· child; χάρις, undeserved kindness,ἔλεος, mercy,εἰρήνη peaceἀπὸ fromθεοῦ Godπατρὸς Fatherκαὶ andΧριστοῦ of ChristἸησοῦ Jesusτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν. of us. 3  Χάριν Thanksἔχω I am havingτῷ to theθεῷ, God,ᾧ to whomλατρεύω I am rendering sacred serviceἀπὸ fromπρογόνων progenitorsἐν inκαθαρᾷ cleanσυνειδήσει, conscience,ὡς asἀδιάλειπτον unceasingἔχω I am havingτὴν theπερὶ aboutσοῦ youμνείαν remembranceἐν inταῖς theδεήσεσίν supplicationsμου, of me,νυκτὸς of nightκαὶ andἡμέρας of day 4  ἐπιποθῶν longingσε youἰδεῖν, to see,μεμνημένος having been remindedσου of youτῶν of theδακρύων, tears,ἵνα in order thatχαρᾶς of joyπληρωθῶ I might be filled 5  ὑπόμνησιν under-reminderλαβὼν having takenτῆς of theἐν inσοὶ youἀνυποκρίτου unhypocriticalπίστεως, faith,ἥτις whichἐνῴκησεν dwelt inπρῶτον firstἐν inτῇ theμάμμῃ grandmotherσου of youΛωίδι Loisκαὶ andτῇ to theμητρί motherσου of youΕὐνίκῃ, Eunice,πέπεισμαι I have been confidentδὲ butὅτι thatκαὶ alsoἐν inσοί. you. 6  δι’ Throughἣν whichαἰτίαν causeἀναμιμνήσκω I am reminding upσε youἀναζωπυρεῖν to be making live (as) fire againτὸ theχάρισμα gracious giftτοῦ of theθεοῦ, God,ὅ whichἐστιν isἐν inσοὶ youδιὰ throughτῆς theἐπιθέσεως putting uponτῶν of theχειρῶν handsμου· of me; 7  οὐ notγὰρ forἔδωκεν gaveἡμῖν to usὁ theθεὸς Godπνεῦμα spiritδειλίας, of cowardice,ἀλλὰ butδυνάμεως of powerκαὶ andἀγάπης of loveκαὶ andσωφρονισμοῦ. of soundness of mind. 8  μὴ Notοὖν thereforeἐπαισχυνθῇς should you be made ashamed uponτὸ theμαρτύριον witnessτοῦ of theκυρίου Lordἡμῶν of usμηδὲ norἐμὲ meτὸν theδέσμιον bound oneαὐτοῦ, of him,ἀλλὰ butσυνκακοπάθησον suffer bad withτῷ to theεὐαγγελίῳ good newsκατὰ according toδύναμιν powerθεοῦ, of God, 9  τοῦ of the (one)σώσαντος having savedἡμᾶς usκαὶ andκαλέσαντος having calledκλήσει to callingἁγίᾳ, holy,οὐ notκατὰ according toτὰ theἔργα worksἡμῶν of usἀλλὰ butκατὰ according toἰδίαν ownπρόθεσιν purposeκαὶ andχάριν, undeserved kindness,τὴν the (one)δοθεῖσαν having been givenἡμῖν to usἐν inΧριστῷ ChristἸησοῦ Jesusπρὸ beforeχρόνων timesαἰωνίων, everlasting, 10  φανερωθεῖσαν [it] having been manifestedδὲ butνῦν nowδιὰ throughτῆς theἐπιφανείας manifestationτοῦ of theσωτῆρος Saviorἡμῶν of usΧριστοῦ of ChristἸησοῦ, Jesus,καταργήσαντος having made ineffectiveμὲν indeedτὸν theθάνατον deathφωτίσαντος having turned light onδὲ butζωὴν lifeκαὶ andἀφθαρσίαν incorruptionδιὰ throughτοῦ theεὐαγγελίου, good news, 11  εἰς intoὃ whichἐτέθην was putἐγὼ Iκῆρυξ preacherκαὶ andἀπόστολος apostleκαὶ andδιδάσκαλος. teacher. 12  δι’ Throughἣν whichαἰτίαν causeκαὶ alsoταῦτα these (things)πάσχω, I am suffering,ἀλλ’ butοὐκ notἐπαισχύνομαι, I am made ashamed upon,οἶδα I have knownγὰρ forᾧ to whomπεπίστευκα, I have believed,καὶ andπέπεισμαι I have been persuadedὅτι thatδυνατός ableἐστιν he isτὴν theπαραθήκην what is put alongsideμου of meφυλάξαι to guardεἰς intoἐκείνην thatτὴν theἡμέραν. day. 13  ὑποτύπωσιν Under-typeἔχε be you havingὑγιαινόντων of (ones) being healthfulλόγων wordsὧν of whichπαρ’ besideἐμοῦ of meἤκουσας you heardἐν inπίστει faithκαὶ andἀγάπῃ loveτῇ the (one)ἐν inΧριστῷ ChristἸησοῦ· Jesus; 14  τὴν theκαλὴν fineπαραθήκην what is put alongsideφύλαξον guard youδιὰ throughπνεύματος spiritἁγίου holyτοῦ theἐνοικοῦντος dwelling withinἐν inἡμῖν. us. 15  Οἶδας You have knownτοῦτο thisὅτι thatἀπεστράφησάν they were turned away fromμε meπάντες allοἱ the (ones)ἐν inτῇ the᾿Ασίᾳ, Asia,ὧν of whomἐστὶν isΦύγελος Phygelusκαὶ andἙρμογένης. Hermogenes. 16  δῴη May he giveἔλεος mercyὁ theκύριος Lordτῷ to theὈνησιφόρου of Onesiphorusοἴκῳ, to household,ὅτι becauseπολλάκις many timesμε meἀνέψυξεν, he cooled again,καὶ andτὴν theἅλυσίν chainμου of meοὐκ notἐπαισχύνθη· he was made ashamed upon; 17  ἀλλὰ butγενόμενος having come to beἐν inῬώμῃ Romeσπουδαίως speedilyἐζήτησέν he soughtμε meκαὶ andεὗρεν·— he found;— 18  δῴη may he giveαὐτῷ to himὁ theκύριος Lordεὑρεῖν to findἔλεος mercyπαρὰ besideκυρίου of Lordἐν inἐκείνῃ thatτῇ theἡμέρᾳ·— day;—καὶ andὅσα how many (things)ἐν in᾿Εφέσῳ Ephesusδιηκόνησεν, he served,βέλτιον betterσὺ youγινώσκεις. are knowing.
