Acts 22:1-30

22  Ἄνδρες Male personsἀδελφοὶ brothersκαὶ andπατέρες, fathers,ἀκούσατέ hear YOUμου of meτῆς of theπρὸς towardὑμᾶς YOUνυνὶ nowἀπολογίας.— defense.— 2  ἀκούσαντες Having heardδὲ butὅτι thatτῇ to the᾿Εβραΐδι Hebrewδιαλέκτῳ languageπροσεφώνει he was sounding towardαὐτοῖς themμᾶλλον ratherπαρέσχον they furnishedἡσυχίαν. quietness.καί Andφησιν— he is saying— 3  ᾿Εγώ Iεἰμι amἀνὴρ male personἸουδαῖος, Jewγεγεννημένος having been generatedἐν inΤαρσῷ Tarsusτῆς of theΚιλικίας, Cilicia,ἀνατεθραμμένος having been nourished upδὲ butἐν inτῇ theπόλει cityταύτῃ thisπαρὰ besideτοὺς theπόδας feetΓαμαλιήλ, of Gamaliel,πεπαιδευμένος having been instructedκατὰ according toἀκρίβειαν strictnessτοῦ of theπατρῴου paternalνόμου, Law,ζηλωτὴς zealotὑπάρχων beingτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαθὼς according asπάντες allὑμεῖς YOUἐστὲ areσήμερον, today, 4  ὃς whoταύτην thisτὴν theὁδὸν wayἐδίωξα I persecutedἄχρι untilθανάτου, death,δεσμεύων bindingκαὶ andπαραδιδοὺς giving besideεἰς intoφυλακὰς prisonsἄνδρας male personsτε andκαὶ alsoγυναῖκας, women, 5  ὡς asκαὶ alsotheἀρχιερεὺς chief priestμαρτυρεῖ is bearing witnessμοι to meκαὶ andπᾶν allτὸ theπρεσβυτέριον· body of older men;παρ’ besideὧν of whomκαὶ alsoἐπιστολὰς lettersδεξάμενος having receivedπρὸς towardτοὺς theἀδελφοὺς brothersεἰς intoΔαμασκὸν Damascusἐπορευόμην I was going my wayἄξων being about to leadκαὶ alsoτοὺς the (ones)ἐκεῖσε thitherὄντας beingδεδεμένους having been boundεἰς intoἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemἵνα in order thatτιμωρηθῶσιν. they might be punished. 6  ᾿Εγένετο It occurredδέ butμοι to meπορευομένῳ going my wayκαὶ andἐγγίζοντι coming nearτῇ to theΔαμασκῷ Damascusπερὶ aboutμεσημβρίαν middayἐξαίφνης suddenlyἐκ out ofτοῦ theοὐρανοῦ heavenπεριαστράψαι to flash aroundφῶς lightἱκανὸν sufficientπερὶ aroundἐμέ, me, 7  ἔπεσά I fellτε andεἰς intoτὸ theἔδαφος groundκαὶ andἤκουσα I heardφωνῆς of voiceλεγούσης sayingμοι to meΣαούλ SaulΣαούλ, Saul,τί whyμε meδιώκεις; are you persecuting? 8  ἐγὼ Iδὲ butἀπεκρίθην I answeredΤίς Whoεἶ, are you,κύριε; Lord?εἶπέν He saidτε andπρὸς towardἐμέ me᾿Εγώ Iεἰμι amἸησοῦς JesustheΝαζωραῖος Nazareneὃν whomσὺ youδιώκεις. are persecuting. 9  οἱ The (ones)δὲ butσὺν together withἐμοὶ meὄντες beingτὸ theμὲν indeedφῶς lightἐθεάσαντο they viewedτὴν theδὲ butφωνὴν voiceοὐκ notἤκουσαν they heardτοῦ of the (one)λαλοῦντός speakingμοι. to me. 10  εἶπον I saidδέ butΤί Whatποιήσω, shall I do,κύριε; Lord?Theδὲ butκύριος Lordεἶπεν saidπρός towardμε me᾿Αναστὰς Having stood upπορεύου be goingεἰς intoΔαμασκόν, Damascus,κἀκεῖ and thereσοι to youλαληθήσεται it will be spokenπερὶ aboutπάντων all (things)ὧν whichτέτακταί it has been arrangedσοι to youποιῆσαι. to do. 11  ὡς Asδὲ butοὐκ notἐνέβλεπον I was looking onἀπὸ fromτῆς theδόξης gloryτοῦ of theφωτὸς lightἐκείνου, that,χειραγωγούμενος being led by the handὑπὸ byτῶν the (ones)συνόντων being withμοι meἦλθον I cameεἰς intoΔαμασκόν. Damascus. 12  Ἁνανίας Ananiasδέ butτις someἀνὴρ male personεὐλαβὴς holding wellκατὰ according toτὸν theνόμον, law,μαρτυρούμενος being witnessed aboutὑπὸ byπάντων allτῶν theκατοικούντων inhabitingἸουδαίων, Jews, 13  ἐλθὼν having comeπρὸς towardἐμὲ meκαὶ andἐπιστὰς having stood uponεἶπέν he saidμοι to meΣαοὺλ Saulἀδελφέ, brother,ἀνάβλεψον· look again;κἀγὼ and Iαὐτῇ to veryτῇ theὥρᾳ hourἀνέβλεψα looked againεἰς intoαὐτόν. him. 14  The (one)δὲ butεἶπεν saidTheθεὸς Godτῶν of theπατέρων fathersἡμῶν of usπροεχειρίσατό he took in advance into his handσε youγνῶναι to knowτὸ theθέλημα willαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἰδεῖν to seeτὸν theδίκαιον righteous (one)καὶ andἀκοῦσαι to hearφωνὴν voiceἐκ out ofτοῦ theστόματος mouthαὐτοῦ, of him, 15  ὅτι becauseἔσῃ you will beμάρτυς witnessαὐτῷ to himπρὸς towardπάντας allἀνθρώπους menὧν of which (things)ἑώρακας you have seenκαὶ andἤκουσας. you heard. 16  καὶ Andνῦν nowτί whyμέλλεις; are you being about?ἀναστὰς Having stood upβάπτισαι be baptizedκαὶ andἀπόλουσαι wash awayτὰς theἁμαρτίας sinsσου of youἐπικαλεσάμενος having called uponτὸ theὄνομα nameαὐτοῦ. of him. 17  ᾿Εγένετο It occurredδέ butμοι to meὑποστρέψαντι having returnedεἰς intoἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemκαὶ andπροσευχομένου prayingμου of meἐν inτῷ theἱερῷ templeγενέσθαι to come to beμε meἐν inἐκστάσει ecstasy 18  καὶ andἰδεῖν to seeαὐτὸν himλέγοντά sayingμοι to meΣπεῦσον Speed upκαὶ andἔξελθε come you outἐν inτάχει quicknessἐξ out ofἸερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem,διότι through whichοὐ notπαραδέξονταί they will receive alongsideσου of youμαρτυρίαν witnessπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ. me. 19  κἀγὼ And Iεἶπον saidΚύριε, Lord,αὐτοὶ theyἐπίστανται are well knowingὅτι thatἐγὼ Iἤμην wasφυλακίζων imprisoningκαὶ andδέρων flayingκατὰ downτὰς theσυναγωγὰς synagoguesτοὺς the (ones)πιστεύοντας believingἐπὶ uponσέ· you; 20  καὶ andὅτε whenἐξεχύννετο was being poured outτὸ theαἷμα bloodΣτεφάνου of Stephenτοῦ theμάρτυρός witnessσου, of you,καὶ alsoαὐτὸς veryἤμην I wasἐφεστὼς having stood uponκαὶ andσυνευδοκῶν thinking well along withκαὶ andφυλάσσων guardingτὰ theἱμάτια outer garmentsτῶν of the (ones)ἀναιρούντων taking upαὐτόν. him. 21  καὶ Andεἶπεν he saidπρός towardμε meΠορεύου, Be going your way,ὅτι becauseἐγὼ Iεἰς intoἔθνη nationsμακρὰν long [way]ἐξαποστελῶ I shall send off outσε. you. 22  Ἤκουον They were hearingδὲ butαὐτοῦ of himἄχρι untilτούτου thisτοῦ theλόγου wordκαὶ andἐπῆραν they lifted uponτὴν theφωνὴν voiceαὐτῶν of themλέγοντες sayingΑἶρε Lift upἀπὸ fromτῆς theγῆς earthτὸν theτοιοῦτον, such one,οὐ notγὰρ forκαθῆκεν it was fittingαὐτὸν himζῇν. to be living. 23  κραυγαζόντων Crying aloudτε andαὐτῶν of themκαὶ andῥιπτούντων throwing aboutτὰ theἱμάτια outer garmentsκαὶ andκονιορτὸν dustβαλλόντων flingingεἰς intoτὸν theἀέρα air 24  ἐκέλευσεν commandedtheχιλίαρχος chiliarchεἰσάγεσθαι to be being led inαὐτὸν himεἰς intoτὴν theπαρεμβολήν, encampment,εἴπας having saidμάστιξιν to scourgesἀνετάζεσθαι to be being closely examinedαὐτὸν himἵνα in order thatἐπιγνῷ he might know fullyδι’ throughἣν whichαἰτίαν causeοὕτως thusἐπεφώνουν they were sounding uponαὐτῷ. to him. 25  ὡς Asδὲ butπροέτειναν they stretched forthαὐτὸν himτοῖς to theἱμᾶσιν strapsεἶπεν he saidπρὸς towardτὸν theἑστῶτα having stoodἑκατόνταρχον centuriontheΠαῦλος PaulΕἰ Ifἄνθρωπον manῬωμαῖον Romanκαὶ andἀκατάκριτον uncondemnedἔξεστιν it is lawfulὑμῖν to YOUμαστίζειν; to be scourging? 26  ἀκούσας Having heardδὲ buttheἑκατοντάρχης centurionπροσελθὼν having come towardτῷ theχιλιάρχῳ chiliarchἀπήγγειλεν he reported backλέγων sayingΤί Whatμέλλεις are you aboutποιεῖν; to be doing?Theγὰρ forἄνθρωπος manοὗτος thisῬωμαῖός Romanἐστιν. is. 27  προσελθὼν Having come towardδὲ buttheχιλίαρχος chiliarchεἶπεν saidαὐτῷ to himΛέγε Be sayingμοι, to me,σὺ youῬωμαῖος Romanεἶ; are you?the (one)δὲ butἔφη saidΝαί. Yes. 28  ἀπεκρίθη Answeredδὲ buttheχιλίαρχος chiliarch᾿Εγὼ Iπολλοῦ of muchκεφαλαίου sum [of money]τὴν theπολιτείαν citizenshipταύτην thisἐκτησάμην. acquired.Theδὲ butΠαῦλος Paulἔφη said᾿Εγὼ Iδὲ butκαὶ alsoγεγέννημαι. I have been generated. 29  εὐθέως Immediatelyοὖν thereforeἀπέστησαν stood offἀπ’ fromαὐτοῦ himοἱ the (ones)μέλλοντες being aboutαὐτὸν himἀνετάζειν· to be closely examining;καὶ andtheχιλίαρχος chiliarchδὲ butἐφοβήθη became afraidἐπιγνοὺς having known fullyὅτι thatῬωμαῖός Romanἐστιν he isκαὶ andὅτι thatαὐτὸν himἦν he wasδεδεκώς. having bound. 30  Τῇ To theδὲ butἐπαύριον morrowβουλόμενος wishingγνῶναι to knowτὸ theἀσφαλὲς steady (thing)τὸ theτί whyκατηγορεῖται he is being accusedὑπὸ byτῶν theἸουδαίων Jewsἔλυσεν he loosedαὐτόν, him,καὶ andἐκέλευσεν he commandedσυνελθεῖν to come togetherτοὺς theἀρχιερεῖς chief priestsκαὶ andπᾶν allτὸ theσυνέδριον, Sanhedrin,καὶ andκαταγαγὼν having led downτὸν theΠαῦλον Paulἔστησεν he made standεἰς intoαὐτούς. them.
