Hebrews 12:1-29

12  Τοιγαροῦν To you-for-thereforeκαὶ alsoἡμεῖς, we,τοσοῦτον so greatἔχοντες havingπερικείμενον lying aroundἡμῖν to usνέφος cloudμαρτύρων, of witnesses,ὄγκον weightἀποθέμενοι having put off selvesπάντα everyκαὶ andτὴν theεὐπερίστατον standing around wellἁμαρτίαν, sin,δι’ throughὑπομονῆς enduranceτρέχωμεν let us be runningτὸν theπροκείμενον lying beforeἡμῖν to usἀγῶνα, struggle, 2  ἀφορῶντες seeing offεἰς intoτὸν theτῆς of theπίστεως faithἀρχηγὸν chief leaderκαὶ andτελειωτὴν perfecterἸησοῦν, Jesus,ὃς whoἀντὶ insteadτῆς of theπροκειμένης lying beforeαὐτῷ to himχαρᾶς joyὑπέμεινεν he enduredσταυρὸν stakeαἰσχύνης of shameκαταφρονήσας, having thought down,ἐν inδεξιᾷ right [hand]τε andτοῦ of theθρόνου throneτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκεκάθικεν. he has sat down. 3  ἀναλογίσασθε Reckon up for selvesγὰρ forτὸν the (one)τοιαύτην suchὑπομεμενηκότα having enduredὑπὸ byτῶν theἁμαρτωλῶν sinnersεἰς intoἑαυτοὺς themselvesἀντιλογίαν, contradiction,ἵνα in order thatμὴ notκάμητε YOU may get tiredταῖς to theψυχαῖς soulsὑμῶν of YOUἐκλυόμενοι. being loosed out. 4  Οὔπω Not as yetμέχρις untilαἵματος bloodἀντικατέστητε YOU stood down againstπρὸς towardτὴν theἁμαρτίαν sinἀνταγωνιζόμενοι, struggling against, 5  καὶ andἐκλέλησθε YOU have forgottenτῆς of theπαρακλήσεως, encouragement,ἥτις whichὑμῖν to YOUὡς asυἱοῖς to sonsδιαλέγεται, is saying itself through,Υἱέ Sonμου, of me,μὴ notὀλιγώρει be belittlingπαιδείας of disciplineΚυρίου, of Lord,μηδὲ not-butἐκλύου loose yourself outὑπ’ byαὐτοῦ himἐλεγχόμενος· being reproved; 6  ὃν whomγὰρ forἀγαπᾷ is lovingΚύριος Lordπαιδεύει, he is disciplining,μαστιγοῖ is scourgingδὲ butπάντα everyυἱὸν sonὃν whomπαραδέχεται. he is receiving alongside. 7  εἰς Intoπαιδείαν disciplineὑπομένετε· YOU are enduring;ὡς asυἱοῖς to sonsὑμῖν to YOUπροσφέρεται is bearing self towardtheθεός· God;τίς whoγὰρ forυἱὸς sonὃν whomοὐ notπαιδεύει is discipliningπατήρ; father? 8  εἰ Ifδὲ butχωρίς apart fromἐστε YOU areπαιδείας of disciplineἧς of whichμέτοχοι partakersγεγόνασι they have becomeπάντες, all,ἄρα reallyνόθοι bastardsκαὶ andοὐχ notυἱοί sonsἐστε. YOU are. 9  εἶτα There (upon)τοὺς theμὲν indeedτῆς of theσαρκὸς fleshἡμῶν of usπατέρας fathersεἴχομεν we were havingπαιδευτὰς disciplinersκαὶ andἐνετρεπόμεθα· we were turning ourselves in;οὐ notπολὺ muchμᾶλλον ratherὑποταγησόμεθα shall we be subjectedτῷ to theπατρὶ Fatherτῶν of theπνευμάτων spiritsκαὶ andζήσομεν; shall we live? 10  οἱ The (ones)μὲν indeedγὰρ forπρὸς towardὀλίγας fewἡμέρας daysκατὰ according toτὸ the (thing)δοκοῦν seemingαὐτοῖς to themἐπαίδευον, they were disciplining,the (one)δὲ butἐπὶ uponτὸ the (thing)συμφέρον bearing togetherεἰς intoτὸ theμεταλαβεῖν to partakeτῆς of theἁγιότητος holinessαὐτοῦ. of him. 11  πᾶσα Everyμὲν indeedπαιδεία disciplineπρὸς towardμὲν indeedτὸ the (thing)παρὸν presentοὐ notδοκεῖ it is seemingχαρᾶς of joyεἶναι to beἀλλὰ butλύπης, of grief,ὕστερον latterlyδὲ butκαρπὸν fruitεἰρηνικὸν peaceableτοῖς to the (ones)δι’ throughαὐτῆς itγεγυμνασμένοις having been trainedἀποδίδωσιν it is giving backδικαιοσύνης. of righteousness. 12  Διὸ Through whichτὰς theπαρειμένας having been let go besideχεῖρας handsκαὶ andτὰ theπαραλελυμένα having been loosed on sideγόνατα kneesἀνορθώσατε, straighten YOU up, 13  καὶ andτροχιὰς tracksὀρθὰς straightποιεῖτε be YOU makingτοῖς to theποσὶν feetὑμῶν, of YOU,ἵνα in order thatμὴ notτὸ the (thing)χωλὸν lameἐκτραπῇ, might be turned out,ἰαθῇ should it be healedδὲ butμᾶλλον. rather. 14  Εἰρήνην Peaceδιώκετε be YOU pursuingμετὰ withπάντων, all (ones),καὶ andτὸν theἁγιασμόν, sanctification,οὗ of whichχωρὶς apart fromοὐδεὶς no oneὄψεται will seeτὸν theκύριον, Lord, 15  ἐπισκοποῦντες looking uponμή notτις anyoneὑστερῶν coming behindἀπὸ fromτῆς theχάριτος undeserved kindnessτοῦ of theθεοῦ, God,μή notτις anyῥίζα rootπικρίας of bitternessἄνω upφύουσα sproutingἐνοχλῇ it should crowdedly troubleκαὶ andδι’ throughαὐτῆς itμιανθῶσιν should be defiledοἱ theπολλοί, many, 16  μή notτις anyoneπόρνος fornicatororβέβηλος profaneὡς asἨσαῦ, Esau,ὃς whoἀντὶ instead ofβρώσεως mealμιᾶς oneἀπέδετο gave off from selfτὰ theπρωτοτόκια firstborn [rights]ἑαυτοῦ. of himself. 17  ἴστε YOU knowγὰρ forὅτι thatκαὶ alsoμετέπειτα after-thereuponθέλων willingκληρονομῆσαι to inheritτὴν theεὐλογίαν blessingἀπεδοκιμάσθη, he was proved off,μετανοίας of repentanceγὰρ forτόπον placeοὐχ notεὗρεν, he found,καίπερ and-evenμετὰ withδακρύων tearsἐκζητήσας having sought outαὐτήν. it. 18  Οὐ Notγὰρ forπροσεληλύθατε YOU have come towardψηλαφωμένῳ to (thing) being feltκαὶ andκεκαυμένῳ having been burnedπυρὶ to fireκαὶ andγνόφῳ to dark cloudκαὶ andζόφῳ to thick darknessκαὶ andθυέλλῃ to tempest, 19  καὶ andσάλπιγγος of trumpetἤχῳ to noiseκαὶ andφωνῇ to voiceῥημάτων, of sayings,ἧς of which [voice]οἱ the (ones)ἀκούσαντες having heardπαρῃτήσαντο asked away from selvesμὴ notπροστεθῆναι to be put towardαὐτοῖς to themλόγον· word; 20  οὐκ notἔφερον they were bearingγὰρ forτὸ the (thing)διαστελλόμενον. being put distinctly.Κἂν And if likelyθηρίον wild beastθίγῃ should contactτοῦ of theὄρους, mountain,λιθοβοληθήσεται· it will be thrown at with stones; 21  καί, and,οὕτω thusφοβερὸν fearsomeἦν wasτὸ the (thing)φανταζόμενον, being made apparent,Μωυσῆς Mosesεἶπεν saidἜκφοβός Fearfulεἰμι I amκαὶ andἔντρομος. atremble. 22  ἀλλὰ Butπροσεληλύθατε YOU have come towardΣιὼν to Sionὄρει to mountainκαὶ andπόλει to cityθεοῦ of Godζῶντος, living,Ἰερουσαλὴμ to Jerusalemἐπουρανίῳ, heavenly,καὶ andμυριάσιν to myriadsἀγγέλων, of angels, 23  πανηγύρει to all-assemblyκαὶ andἐκκλησίᾳ to ecclesiaπρωτοτόκων of firstborn (ones)ἀπογεγραμμένων having been written offἐν inοὐρανοῖς, heavens,καὶ andκριτῇ to judgeθεῷ to Godπάντων, of all,καὶ andπνεύμασι to spiritsδικαίων of righteous (ones)τετελειωμένων, having been perfected, 24  καὶ andδιαθήκης of covenantνέας newμεσίτῃ to mediatorἸησοῦ, to Jesus,καὶ andαἵματι to bloodῥαντισμοῦ of sprinklingκρεῖττον better (thing)λαλοῦντι to (one) speakingπαρὰ besideτὸν theἍβελ. Abel. 25  Βλέπετε Be looking atμὴ notπαραιτήσησθε YOU should ask off for yourselvesτὸν theλαλοῦντα· (one) speaking;εἰ ifγὰρ forἐκεῖνοι thoseοὐκ notἐξέφυγον they fled outἐπὶ uponγῆς earthπαραιτησάμενοι having asked off for selvesτὸν the (one)χρηματίζοντα, giving divine warning,πολὺ muchμᾶλλον ratherἡμεῖς weοἱ the (ones)τὸν the (one)ἀπ’ fromοὐρανῶν heavensἀποστρεφόμενοι· turning selves away from; 26  οὗ of whomtheφωνὴ voiceτὴν theγῆν earthἐσάλευσεν shookτότε, then,νῦν nowδὲ butἐπήγγελται he has promisedλέγων sayingἜτι Yetἅπαξ onceἐγὼ Iσείσω shall set in commotionοὐ notμόνον onlyτὴν theγῆν earthἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoτὸν theοὐρανόν. heaven. 27  τὸ Theδέ butἜτι Yetἅπαξ onceδηλοῖ is making evidentτὴν theτῶν of the (things)σαλευομένων being shakenμετάθεσιν transferenceὡς asπεποιημένων, of (things) having been made,ἵνα in order thatμείνῃ it might remainτὰ the (things)μὴ notσαλευόμενα. being shaken. 28  Διὸ Through whichβασιλείαν kingdomἀσάλευτον unshakableπαραλαμβάνοντες (ones) receiving besideἔχωμεν may we be havingχάριν, undeserved kindness,δι’ throughἧς whichλατρεύωμεν we may render sacred serviceεὐαρέστως well pleasinglyτῷ to theθεῷ Godμετὰ withεὐλαβείας holding (self)καὶ andδέους, awe, 29  καὶ andγὰρ fortheθεὸς Godἡμῶν of usπῦρ fireκαταναλίσκον. consuming down.
