Hebrews 8:1-13

8  Κεφάλαιον Summaryδὲ butἐπὶ uponτοῖς the (things)λεγομένοις, being said,τοιοῦτον suchἔχομεν we are havingἀρχιερέα, chief priest,ὃς whoἐκάθισεν sat downἐν inδεξιᾷ right [hand]τοῦ of theθρόνου throneτῆς of theμεγαλωσύνης greatnessἐν inτοῖς theοὐρανοῖς, heavens, 2  τῶν of theἁγίων holy [places]λειτουργὸς public workerκαὶ andτῆς of theσκηνῆς tentτῆς theἀληθινῆς, true,ἣν whichἔπηξεν pegged downὁ theκύριος, Lord,οὐκ notἄνθρωπος. man. 3  πᾶς Everyγὰρ forἀρχιερεὺς chief priestεἰς intoτὸ theπροσφέρειν to be bearing towardδῶρά giftsτε andκαὶ andθυσίας sacrificesκαθίσταται· is being set down;ὅθεν from whichἀναγκαῖον necessaryἔχειν to be havingτι somethingκαὶ andτοῦτον this (one)ὃ whichπροσενέγκῃ. he might bear toward. 4  εἰ Ifμὲν indeedοὖν thereforeἦν he wasἐπὶ uponγῆς, earth,οὐδ’ notἂν likelyἦν he wasἱερεύς, priest,ὄντων beingτῶν of the (ones)προσφερόντων bearing towardκατὰ according toνόμον Lawτὰ theδῶρα· gifts; 5  οἵτινες whoὑποδείγματι to exampleκαὶ andσκιᾷ to shadowλατρεύουσιν are rendering sacred serviceτῶν of theἐπουρανίων, heavenly (things),καθὼς according asκεχρημάτισται has been divinely warnedΜωυσῆς Mosesμέλλων being aboutἐπιτελεῖν to finish uponτὴν theσκηνήν, tent,Ὅρα Be seeingγάρ, for,φησίν, he says,ποιήσεις you will doπάντα all (things)κατὰ according toτὸν theτύπον typeτὸν the (one)δειχθέντα having been shownσοι to youἐν inτῷ theὄρει· mountain; 6  νῦν nowδὲ butδιαφορωτέρας of more differing (one)τέτυχεν he has obtainedλειτουργίας, public work,ὅσῳ to how muchκαὶ alsoκρείττονός of betterἐστιν he isδιαθήκης of covenantμεσίτης, mediator,ἥτις whichἐπὶ uponκρείττοσιν betterἐπαγγελίαις promisesνενομοθέτηται. has been legally set. 7  εἰ Ifγὰρ forἡ theπρώτη firstἐκείνη thatἦν wasἄμεμπτος, blameless,οὐκ notἂν likelyδευτέρας of second (one)ἐζητεῖτο was being soughtτόπος· place; 8  μεμφόμενος blamingγὰρ forαὐτοὺς themλέγει he is sayingἸδοὺ Look!ἡμέραι Daysἔρχονται, are coming,λέγει is sayingΚύριος, Lord,καὶ andσυντελέσω I shall concludeἐπὶ uponτὸν theοἶκον houseἸσραὴλ of Israelκαὶ andἐπὶ uponτὸν theοἶκον houseἸούδα of Judahδιαθήκην covenantκαινήν, new, 9  οὐ notκατὰ according toτὴν theδιαθήκην covenantἣν whichἐποίησα I madeτοῖς to theπατράσιν fathersαὐτῶν of themἐν inἡμέρᾳ dayἐπιλαβομένου having taking hold uponμου of meτῆς of theχειρὸς handαὐτῶν of themἐξαγαγεῖν to lead outαὐτοὺς themἐκ out ofγῆς earthΑἰγύπτου, of Egypt,ὅτι becauseαὐτοὶ theyοὐκ notἐνέμειναν they remained inἐν inτῇ theδιαθήκῃ covenantμου, of me,κἀγὼ and Iἠμέλησα showed no concernαὐτῶν, of them,λέγει is sayingΚύριος. Lord. 10  ὅτι Becauseαὕτη thisἡ theδιαθήκη covenantἣν whichδιαθήσομαι I shall covenantτῷ to theοἴκῳ houseἸσραήλ of Israelμετὰ afterτὰς theἡμέρας daysἐκείνας, those,λέγει is sayingΚύριος, Lord,διδοὺς givingνόμους lawsμου of meεἰς intoτὴν theδιάνοιαν mental perceptionαὐτῶν, of them,καὶ andἐπὶ uponκαρδίας heartsαὐτῶν of themἐπιγράψω I shall write uponαὐτούς, them,καὶ andἔσομαι I shall beαὐτοῖς to themεἰς intoθεόν Godκαὶ andαὐτοὶ theyἔσονταί will beμοι to meεἰς intoλαόν. people. 11  καὶ Andοὐ notμὴ notδιδάξωσιν should they teachἕκαστος each (one)τὸν theπολίτην citizenαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἕκαστος each (one)τὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherαὐτοῦ, of him,λέγων sayingΓνῶθι Knowτὸν theκύριον, Lord,ὅτι becauseπάντες allεἰδήσουσίν they will knowμε meἀπὸ fromμικροῦ little (one)ἕως untilμεγάλου great (one)αὐτῶν. of them. 12  ὅτι Becauseἵλεως mercifulἔσομαι I shall beταῖς to theἀδικίαις unrighteousnessαὐτῶν, of them,καὶ andτῶν of theἁμαρτιῶν sinsαὐτῶν of themοὐ notμὴ notμνησθῶ I should rememberἔτι. yet. 13  ἐν Inτῷ theλέγειν to be sayingΚαινήν Newπεπαλαίωκεν he has made oldτὴν theπρώτην, first (one),τὸ the (thing)δὲ butπαλαιούμενον being made oldκαὶ andγηράσκον growing agedἐγγὺς nearἀφανισμοῦ. vanishing.
