John 5:1-47

5  Μετὰ Afterταῦτα these (things)ἦν wasἑορτὴ festivalτῶν of theἸουδαίων, Jews,καὶ andἀνέβη went upἸησοῦς Jesusεἰς intoἸεροσόλυμα. Jerusalem. 2  Ἔστιν Isδὲ butἐν inτοῖς theἸεροσολύμοις Jerusalemἐπὶ uponτῇ theπροβατικῇ sheep [gate]κολυμβήθρα pooltheἐπιλεγομένη being said upon᾿Εβραϊστὶ in HebrewΒηθζαθά, Bethzatha,πέντε fiveστοὰς colonnadesἔχουσα· having; 3  ἐν inταύταις theseκατέκειτο was lying downπλῆθος multitudeτῶν of the (ones)ἀσθενούντων, being sick,τυφλῶν, of blind (ones),χωλῶν, of lame (ones),ξηρῶν. of withered (ones). 4  —— —— 5  ἦν Wasδέ butτις someἄνθρωπος manἐκεῖ thereτριάκοντα thirtyκαὶ andὀκτὼ eightἔτη yearsἔχων havingἐν inτῇ theἀσθενείᾳ sicknessαὐτοῦ· of him; 6  τοῦτον this (one)ἰδὼν having seentheἸησοῦς Jesusκατακείμενον, lying down,καὶ andγνοὺς having knownὅτι thatπολὺν muchἤδη alreadyχρόνον timeἔχει, he is having,λέγει he is sayingαὐτῷ to himΘέλεις Are you willingὑγιὴς sound in healthγενέσθαι; to become? 7  ἀπεκρίθη Answeredαὐτῷ to himtheἀσθενῶν being infirm (one)Κύριε, Lord,ἄνθρωπον manοὐκ notἔχω I am havingἵνα in order thatὅταν wheneverταραχθῇ should be disturbedτὸ theὕδωρ waterβάλῃ should thrustμε meεἰς intoτὴν theκολυμβήθραν· pool;ἐν inwhich [time]δὲ butἔρχομαι am comingἐγὼ Iἄλλος anotherπρὸ beforeἐμοῦ meκαταβαίνει. is stepping down. 8  λέγει Is sayingαὐτῷ to himtheἸησοῦς JesusἜγειρε Be rising upἆρον lift upτὸν theκράβαττόν cotσου of youκαὶ andπεριπάτει. be walking about. 9  καὶ Andεὐθέως immediatelyἐγένετο becameὑγιὴς sound in healththeἄνθρωπος, man,καὶ andἦρε lifted upτὸν theκράβαττον cotαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andπεριεπάτει. was walking about. ῏Ην Wasδὲ butσάββατον sabbathἐν inἐκείνῃ thatτῇ theἡμέρᾳ. day. 10  ἔλεγον Were sayingοὖν thereforeοἱ theἸουδαῖοι Jewsτῷ to the (one)τεθεραπευμένῳ having been curedΣάββατόν Sabbathἐστιν, it is,καὶ andοὐκ notἔξεστίν it is lawfulσοι to youἆραι to lift upτὸν theκράβαττον. cot. 11  ὃς Whoδὲ butἀπεκρίθη answeredαὐτοῖς to themThe (one)ποιήσας having madeμε meὑγιῆ sound in healthἐκεῖνός that (one)μοι to meεἶπεν said῏Αρον Lift upτὸν theκράβαττόν cotσου of youκαὶ andπεριπάτει. be walking about. 12  ἠρώτησαν They questionedαὐτόν himΤίς Whoἐστιν istheἄνθρωπος manthe (one)εἰπών having saidσοι to you῏Αρον Lift upκαὶ andπεριπάτει; be walking about? 13  The (one)δὲ butἰαθεὶς having been healedοὐκ notᾔδει had knownτίς whoἐστιν, it is,theγὰρ forἸησοῦς Jesusἐξένευσεν inclined outὄχλου of crowdὄντος beingἐν inτῷ theτόπῳ. place. 14  Μετὰ Afterταῦτα these (things)εὑρίσκει is findingαὐτὸν himtheἸησοῦς Jesusἐν inτῷ theἱερῷ templeκαὶ andεἶπεν saidαὐτῷ to himἼδε Seeὑγιὴς sound in healthγέγονας· you have becomeμηκέτι not yetἁμάρτανε, be sinning,ἵνα in order thatμὴ notχεῖρόν worseσοί to youτι somethingγένηται. should happen. 15  ἀπῆλθεν Went awaytheἄνθρωπος manκαὶ andεἶπεν saidτοῖς to theἸουδαίοις Jewsὅτι thatἸησοῦς Jesusἐστὶν isthe (one)ποιήσας having madeαὐτὸν himὑγιῆ. sound in health. 16  καὶ Andδιὰ throughτοῦτο thisἐδίωκον were persecutingοἱ theἸουδαῖοι Jewsτὸν theἸησοῦν Jesusὅτι becauseταῦτα these (things)ἐποίει he was doingἐν inσαββάτῳ. sabbath. 17  The (one)δὲ butἀπεκρίνατο answeredαὐτοῖς to themTheπατήρ Fatherμου of meἕως untilἄρτι right nowἐργάζεται, is working,κἀγὼ and Iἐργάζομαι. am working. 18  διὰ Throughτοῦτο thisοὖν thereforeμᾶλλον ratherἐζήτουν were seekingαὐτὸν himοἱ theἸουδαῖοι Jewsἀποκτεῖναι to killὅτι becauseοὐ notμόνον onlyἔλυε was loosingτὸ theσάββατον sabbathἀλλὰ butκαὶ alsoπατέρα Fatherἴδιον ownἔλεγε he was sayingτὸν theθεόν, God,ἴσον equalἑαυτὸν himselfποιῶν makingτῷ to theθεῷ. God. 19  ᾿Απεκρίνατο Answeredοὖν thereforetheἸησοῦς Jesusκαὶ andἔλεγεν was sayingαὐτοῖς to them᾿Αμὴν Amenἀμὴν amenλέγω I am sayingὑμῖν, to YOU,οὐ notδύναται is abletheυἱὸς Sonποιεῖν to be doingἀφ’ fromἑαυτοῦ himselfοὐδὲν nothingἂν [if] everμή notτι somethingβλέπῃ he may seeτὸν theπατέρα Fatherποιοῦντα· doing;what (things)γὰρ forἂν likelyἐκεῖνος that (one)ποιῇ, may do,ταῦτα these (things)καὶ alsotheυἱὸς Sonὁμοίως likewiseποιεῖ. is doing. 20  Theγὰρ forπατὴρ Fatherφιλεῖ is having affection forτὸν theυἱὸν Sonκαὶ andπάντα all (things)δείκνυσιν he is showingαὐτῷ to himwhichαὐτὸς heποιεῖ, is doing,καὶ andμείζονα greaterτούτων of theseδείξει he will showαὐτῷ to himἔργα, works,ἵνα in order thatὑμεῖς YOUθαυμάζητε. may wonder. 21  ὥσπερ As-evenγὰρ fortheπατὴρ Fatherἐγείρει is raising upτοὺς theνεκροὺς dead (ones)καὶ andζωοποιεῖ, is making alive,οὕτως thusκαὶ alsotheυἱὸς Sonοὓς which (ones)θέλει he is willingζωοποιεῖ. he is making alive. 22  οὐδὲ Neitherγὰρ fortheπατὴρ Fatherκρίνει is judgingοὐδένα, anyone,ἀλλὰ butτὴν theκρίσιν judgmentπᾶσαν allδέδωκεν he has givenτῷ to theυἱῷ, Son, 23  ἵνα in order thatπάντες allτιμῶσι they may honorτὸν theυἱὸν Sonκαθὼς according asτιμῶσι they are honoringτὸν theπατέρα. Father.The (one)μὴ notτιμῶν honoringτὸν theυἱὸν Sonοὐ notτιμᾷ is honoringτὸν theπατέρα Fatherτὸν the (one)πέμψαντα having sentαὐτόν. him. 24  ᾿Αμὴν Amenἀμὴν amenλέγω I am sayingὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatthe (one)τὸν theλόγον wordμου of meἀκούων hearingκαὶ andπιστεύων believingτῷ to the (one)πέμψαντί having sentμε meἔχει is havingζωὴν lifeαἰώνιον, everlasting,καὶ andεἰς intoκρίσιν judgmentοὐκ notἔρχεται he is comingἀλλὰ butμεταβέβηκεν he has gone overἐκ out ofτοῦ theθανάτου deathεἰς intoτὴν theζωήν. life. 25  ἀμὴν Amenἀμὴν amenλέγω I am sayingὑμῖν to YOUὅτι thatἔρχεται is comingὥρα hourκαὶ andνῦν nowἐστὶν it isὅτε whenοἱ theνεκροὶ dead (ones)ἀκούσουσιν will hearτῆς of theφωνῆς voiceτοῦ of theυἱοῦ Sonτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαὶ andοἱ the (ones)ἀκούσαντες having heardζήσουσιν. will live. 26  ὥσπερ As-evenγὰρ fortheπατὴρ Fatherἔχει is havingζωὴν lifeἐν inἑαυτῷ, himself,οὕτως thusκαὶ alsoτῷ to theυἱῷ Sonἔδωκεν he gaveζωὴν lifeἔχειν to be havingἐν inἑαυτῷ· himself; 27  καὶ andἐξουσίαν authorityἔδωκεν he gaveαὐτῷ to himκρίσιν judgmentποιεῖν, to be doing,ὅτι becauseυἱὸς Sonἀνθρώπου of manἐστίν. he is. 28  μὴ Notθαυμάζετε be YOU wondering atτοῦτο, this,ὅτι becauseἔρχεται is comingὥρα hourἐν inwhichπάντες allοἱ the (ones)ἐν inτοῖς theμνημείοις memorial tombsἀκούσουσιν will hearτῆς of theφωνῆς voiceαὐτοῦ of him 29  καὶ andἐκπορεύσονται will come outοἱ the (ones)τὰ theἀγαθὰ good (things)ποιήσαντες having doneεἰς intoἀνάστασιν resurrectionζωῆς, of life,οἱ the (ones)τὰ theφαῦλα vile (things)πράξαντες having practicedεἰς intoἀνάστασιν resurrectionκρίσεως. of judgment. 30  Οὐ Notδύναμαι am ableἐγὼ Iποιεῖν to be doingἀπ’ fromἐμαυτοῦ myselfοὐδέν· nothing;καθὼς according asἀκούω I am hearingκρίνω, I am judging,καὶ andtheκρίσις judgmenttheἐμὴ mineδικαία righteousἐστίν, it is,ὅτι becauseοὐ notζητῶ I am seekingτὸ theθέλημα willτὸ theἐμὸν mineἀλλὰ butτὸ theθέλημα willτοῦ of the (one)πέμψαντός having sentμε. me. 31  ᾿Εὰν If everἐγὼ Iμαρτυρῶ may witnessπερὶ aboutἐμαυτοῦ, myself,theμαρτυρία witnessμου of meοὐκ notἔστιν isἀληθής· true; 32  ἄλλος anotherἐστὶν isthe (one)μαρτυρῶν witnessingπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ, me,καὶ andοἶδα I have knownὅτι thatἀληθής trueἐστιν istheμαρτυρία witnessἣν whichμαρτυρεῖ he is witnessingπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ. me. 33  ὑμεῖς YOUἀπεστάλκατε have sent forthπρὸς towardἸωάνην, John,καὶ andμεμαρτύρηκε he has borne witnessτῇ to theἀληθείᾳ· truth; 34  ἐγὼ Iδὲ butοὐ notπαρὰ besideἀνθρώπου of manτὴν theμαρτυρίαν witnessλαμβάνω, am receiving,ἀλλὰ butταῦτα these (things)λέγω I am sayingἵνα in order thatὑμεῖς YOUσωθῆτε. might be saved. 35  ἐκεῖνος That (one)ἦν wastheλύχνος lamptheκαιόμενος burningκαὶ andφαίνων, shining,ὑμεῖς YOUδὲ butἠθελήσατε willedἀγαλλιαθῆναι to exultπρὸς towardὥραν hourἐν inτῷ theφωτὶ lightαὐτοῦ· of him; 36  ἐγὼ Iδὲ butἔχω am havingτὴν theμαρτυρίαν witnessμείζω greaterτοῦ of theἸωάνου, John,τὰ theγὰρ forἔργα workswhichδέδωκέν has givenμοι to metheπατὴρ Fatherἵνα in order thatτελειώσω I might finishαὐτά, them,αὐτὰ theyτὰ theἔργα workswhichποιῶ, I am doing,μαρτυρεῖ is witnessπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ meὅτι thattheπατήρ Fatherμε meἀπέσταλκεν, has sent forth, 37  καὶ andtheπέμψας having sentμε meπατὴρ Fatherἐκεῖνος that (one)μεμαρτύρηκεν has borne witnessπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ. me.οὔτε Neitherφωνὴν voiceαὐτοῦ of himπώποτε at any timeἀκηκόατε YOU have heardοὔτε norεἶδος figureαὐτοῦ of himἑωράκατε, YOU have seen, 38  καὶ andτὸν theλόγον wordαὐτοῦ of himοὐκ notἔχετε YOU are havingἐν inὑμῖν YOUμένοντα, remaining,ὅτι becauseὃν whomἀπέστειλεν sent forthἐκεῖνος that (one)τούτῳ to this (one)ὑμεῖς YOUοὐ notπιστεύετε. are believing. 39  ἐραυνᾶτε YOU are searchingτὰς theγραφάς, Scriptures,ὅτι becauseὑμεῖς YOUδοκεῖτε are thinkingἐν inαὐταῖς themζωὴν lifeαἰώνιον everlastingἔχειν· to be having;καὶ andἐκεῖναί thoseεἰσιν areαἱ the (ones)μαρτυροῦσαι bearing witnessπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ· me; 40  καὶ andοὐ notθέλετε YOU are willingἐλθεῖν to comeπρός towardμε meἵνα in order thatζωὴν lifeἔχητε. YOU may have. 41  Δόξαν Gloryπαρὰ besideἀνθρώπων of menοὐ notλαμβάνω, I am receiving, 42  ἀλλὰ butἔγνωκα I have knownὑμᾶς YOUὅτι thatτὴν theἀγάπην loveτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godοὐκ notἔχετε YOU are havingἐν inἑαυτοῖς. selves. 43  ἐγὼ Iἐλήλυθα have comeἐν inτῷ theὀνόματι nameτοῦ of theπατρός Fatherμου of meκαὶ andοὐ notλαμβάνετέ YOU are receivingμε· me;ἐὰν if everἄλλος anotherἔλθῃ should comeἐν inτῷ theὀνόματι nameτῷ to theἰδίῳ, own,ἐκεῖνον that (one)λήμψεσθε. YOU will receive. 44  πῶς Howδύνασθε are ableὑμεῖς YOUπιστεῦσαι, to believe,δόξαν gloryπαρ’ besideἀλλήλων of one anotherλαμβάνοντες, receiving,καὶ andτὴν theδόξαν gloryτὴν the (one)παρὰ besideτοῦ of theμόνου onlyθεοῦ Godοὐ notζητεῖτε; YOU are seeking? 45  μὴ Notδοκεῖτε be thinking YOUὅτι thatἐγὼ Iκατηγορήσω shall accuseὑμῶν YOUπρὸς towardτὸν theπατέρα· Father;ἔστιν isthe (one)κατηγορῶν accusingὑμῶν YOUΜωυσῆς, Moses,εἰς intoὃν whomὑμεῖς YOUἠλπίκατε. have hoped. 46  εἰ Ifγὰρ forἐπιστεύετε YOU were believingΜωυσεῖ, to Moses,ἐπιστεύετε YOU were believingἂν likelyἐμοί, to me,περὶ aboutγὰρ forἐμοῦ of meἐκεῖνος that (one)ἔγραψεν. wrote. 47  εἰ Ifδὲ butτοῖς to theἐκείνου of that (one)γράμμασιν writingsοὐ notπιστεύετε, YOU are believing,πῶς howτοῖς to theἐμοῖς myῥήμασιν sayingsπιστεύσετε; YOU will believe?
