John 9:1-41

9  Καὶ Andπαράγων going besideεἶδεν he sawἄνθρωπον manτυφλὸν blindἐκ out ofγενετῆς. birth. 2  καὶ Andἠρώτησαν questionedαὐτὸν himοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesαὐτοῦ of himλέγοντες sayingῬαββεί, Rabbi,τίς whoἥμαρτεν, sinned,οὗτος this (one)orοἱ theγονεῖς parentsαὐτοῦ, of him,ἵνα in order thatτυφλὸς blindγεννηθῇ; he should be generated? 3  ἀπεκρίθη AnsweredἸησοῦς JesusΟὔτε Neitherοὗτος this (one)ἥμαρτεν sinnedοὔτε norοἱ theγονεῖς parentsαὐτοῦ, of him,ἀλλ’ butἵνα in order thatφανερωθῇ might be manifestedτὰ theἔργα worksτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godἐν inαὐτῷ. him. 4  ἡμᾶς Usδεῖ it is necessaryἐργάζεσθαι to be workingτὰ theἔργα worksτοῦ of the (one)πέμψαντός having sentμε meἕως untilἡμέρα dayἐστίν· is;ἔρχεται is comingνὺξ nightὅτε whenοὐδεὶς no oneδύναται is ableἐργάζεσθαι. to be working. 5  ὅταν Wheneverἐν inτῷ theκόσμῳ worldὦ, I may be,φῶς lightεἰμὶ I amτοῦ of theκόσμου. world. 6  ταῦτα These (things)εἰπὼν having saidἔπτυσεν he spatχαμαὶ on the groundκαὶ andἐποίησεν he madeπηλὸν clayἐκ out ofτοῦ theπτύσματος, spittle,καὶ andἐπέθηκεν he put uponαὐτοῦ of himτὸν theπηλὸν clayἐπὶ uponτοὺς theὀφθαλμούς, eyes, 7  καὶ andεἶπεν he saidαὐτῷ to himὝπαγε Be going underνίψαι wash yourselfεἰς intoτὴν theκολυμβήθραν poolτοῦ of theΣιλωάμ Siloamwhichἑρμηνεύεται is being translated᾿Απεσταλμένος. I saw again. 12  καὶ Andεἶπαν they saidαὐτῷ to himΠοῦ Whereἐστὶν isἐκεῖνος; that (one)?λέγει He is sayingΟὐκ Notοἶδα. I have known. 13  Ἄγουσιν They are leadingαὐτὸν himπρὸς towardτοὺς theΦαρισαίους Phariseesτόν the (one)ποτε sometimeτυφλόν. blind. 14  ἦν Wasδὲ butσάββατον sabbathἐν inwhichἡμέρᾳ dayτὸν theπηλὸν clayἐποίησεν madetheἸησοῦς Jesusκαὶ andἀνέῳξεν he openedαὐτοῦ of himτοὺς theὀφθαλμούς. eyes. 15  πάλιν Againοὖν thereforeἠρώτων were questioningαὐτὸν himκαὶ alsoοἱ theΦαρισαῖοι Phariseesπῶς howἀνέβλεψεν. he saw again.The (one)δὲ butεἶπεν saidαὐτοῖς to themΠηλὸν Clayἐπέθηκέν he put uponμου of meἐπὶ uponτοὺς theὀφθαλμούς, eyes,καὶ andἐνιψάμην, I washed myself,καὶ andβλέπω. I am seeing. 16  ἔλεγον Were sayingοὖν thereforeἐκ out ofτῶν theΦαρισαίων Phariseesτινές someΟὐκ Notἔστιν isοὗτος this (one)παρὰ besideθεοῦ of Godtheἄνθρωπος, man,ὅτι becauseτὸ theσάββατον sabbathοὐ notτηρεῖ. he is observing.ἄλλοι Othersδὲ butἔλεγον were sayingΠῶς Howδύναται is ableἄνθρωπος manἁμαρτωλὸς sinnerτοιαῦτα suchσημεῖα signsποιεῖν; to be doing?καὶ Andσχίσμα splitἦν wasἐν inαὐτοῖς. them. 17  λέγουσιν They are sayingοὖν thereforeτῷ to theτυφλῷ blind [man]πάλιν againΤί Whatσὺ youλέγεις are sayingπερὶ aboutαὐτοῦ, him,ὅτι becauseἠνέῳξέν he openedσου of youτοὺς theὀφθαλμούς; eyes?The (one)δὲ butεἶπεν saidὅτι thatΠροφήτης Prophetἐστίν. he is. 18  Οὐκ Notἐπίστευσαν believedοὖν thereforeοἱ theἸουδαῖοι Jewsπερὶ aboutαὐτοῦ himὅτι thatἦν he wasτυφλὸς blindκαὶ andἀνέβλεψεν, he saw again,ἕως untilὅτου whenἐφώνησαν they sounded forτοὺς theγονεῖς parentsαὐτοῦ of himτοῦ the (one)ἀναβλέψαντος having seen again 19  καὶ andἠρώτησαν they questionedαὐτοὺς themλέγοντες sayingΟὗτός Thisἐστιν istheυἱὸς sonὑμῶν, of YOU,ὃν whomὑμεῖς YOUλέγετε are sayingὅτι thatτυφλὸς blindἐγεννήθη; was generated?πῶς Howοὖν thereforeβλέπει he is seeingἄρτι; right now? 20  ἀπεκρίθησαν Answeredοὖν thereforeοἱ theγονεῖς parentsαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andεἶπαν they saidΟἴδαμεν We have knownὅτι thatοὗτός thisἐστιν istheυἱὸς sonἡμῶν of usκαὶ andὅτι thatτυφλὸς blindἐγεννήθη· he was generated; 21  πῶς howδὲ butνῦν nowβλέπει he is seeingοὐκ notοἴδαμεν, we have known,orτίς whoἤνοιξεν openedαὐτοῦ of himτοὺς theὀφθαλμοὺς eyesἡμεῖς weοὐκ notοἴδαμεν· have known;αὐτὸν himἐρωτήσατε, YOU question,ἡλικίαν prime of lifeἔχει, he is having,αὐτὸς heπερὶ aboutἑαυτοῦ himselfλαλήσει. will speak. 22  ταῦτα These (things)εἶπαν saidοἱ theγονεῖς parentsαὐτοῦ of himὅτι becauseἐφοβοῦντο they were fearingτοὺς theἸουδαίους, Jews,ἤδη alreadyγὰρ forσυνετέθειντο had put themselves togetherοἱ theἸουδαῖοι Jewsἵνα in order thatἐάν if everτις anyoneαὐτὸν himὁμολογήσῃ should confessΧριστόν, Christ,ἀποσυνάγωγος off from synagogueγένηται. he should become. 23  διὰ Throughτοῦτο thisοἱ theγονεῖς parentsαὐτοῦ of himεἶπαν saidὅτι thatἩλικίαν Prime of lifeἔχει, he is having,αὐτὸν himἐπερωτήσατε. question YOU upon. 24  ᾿Εφώνησαν They sounded forοὖν thereforeτὸν theἄνθρωπον manἐκ out ofδευτέρου second [time]ὃς whoἦν wasτυφλὸς blindκαὶ andεἶπαν saidαὐτῷ to himΔὸς Giveδόξαν gloryτῷ to theθεῷ· God;ἡμεῖς weοἴδαμεν have knownὅτι thatοὗτος thistheἄνθρωπος manἁμαρτωλός sinnerἐστιν. is. 25  ἀπεκρίθη Answeredοὖν thereforeἐκεῖνος that (one)Εἰ Ifἁμαρτωλός sinnerἐστιν he isοὐκ notοἶδα· I have known;ἓν one (thing)οἶδα I have knownὅτι thatτυφλὸς blindὢν beingἄρτι right nowβλέπω. I am seeing. 26  εἶπαν They saidοὖν thereforeαὐτῷ to himΤί Whatἐποίησέν did heσοι; to you?πῶς Howἤνοιξέν opened heσου of youτοὺς theὀφθαλμούς; eyes? 27  ἀπεκρίθη He answeredαὐτοῖς to themΕἶπον I saidὑμῖν to YOUἤδη alreadyκαὶ andοὐκ notἠκούσατε· YOU heard;τί whyπάλιν againθέλετε YOU are willingἀκούειν; to be hearing?μὴ Notκαὶ alsoὑμεῖς YOUθέλετε are willingαὐτοῦ of himμαθηταὶ disciplesγενέσθαι; to become? 28  καὶ Andἐλοιδόρησαν they reviledαὐτὸν himκαὶ andεἶπαν they saidΣὺ Youμαθητὴς discipleεἶ areἐκείνου, of that (one),ἡμεῖς weδὲ butτοῦ of theΜωυσέως Mosesἐσμὲν we areμαθηταί· disciples; 29  ἡμεῖς weοἴδαμεν have knownὅτι thatΜωυσεῖ to Mosesλελάληκεν has spokentheθεός, God,τοῦτον this (one)δὲ butοὐκ notοἴδαμεν we have knownπόθεν wherefromἐστίν. he is. 30  ἀπεκρίθη Answeredtheἄνθρωπος manκαὶ andεἶπεν saidαὐτοῖς to them᾿Εν Inτούτῳ this (thing)γὰρ forτὸ theθαυμαστόν marvelous (thing)ἐστιν isὅτι thatὑμεῖς YOUοὐκ notοἴδατε have knownπόθεν wherefromἐστίν, he is,καὶ andἤνοιξέν he openedμου of meτοὺς theὀφθαλμούς. eyes. 31  οἴδαμεν We have knownὅτι thattheθεὸς Godἁμαρτωλῶν of sinnersοὐκ notἀκούει, is hearing,ἀλλ’ butἐάν if everτις anyoneθεοσεβὴς God-reveringmay beκαὶ andτὸ theθέλημα willαὐτοῦ of himποιῇ he may doτούτου of this (one)ἀκούει. he is hearing. 32  ἐκ Out ofτοῦ theαἰῶνος ageοὐκ notἠκούσθη it was heardὅτι thatἠνέῳξέν openedτις anyoneὀφθαλμοὺς eyesτυφλοῦ of blind [man]γεγεννημένου· having been generated; 33  εἰ ifμὴ notἦν wasοὗτος this (one)παρὰ besideθεοῦ, of God,οὐκ notἠδύνατο he was ableποιεῖν to be doingοὐδέν. nothing. 34  ἀπεκρίθησαν They answeredκαὶ andεἶπαν they saidαὐτῷ to him᾿Εν Inἁμαρτίαις sinsσὺ youἐγεννήθης were generatedὅλος, whole,καὶ andσὺ youδιδάσκεις are teachingἡμᾶς; us?καὶ Andἐξέβαλον they threw outαὐτὸν himἔξω. outside. 35  Ἤκουσεν HeardἸησοῦς Jesusὅτι thatἐξέβαλον they threw outαὐτὸν himἔξω, outside,καὶ andεὑρὼν having foundαὐτὸν himεἶπεν he saidΣὺ Youπιστεύεις are believingεἰς intoτὸν theυἱὸν Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου; man? 36  ἀπεκρίθη Answeredἐκεῖνος that (one)καὶ andεἶπεν he saidΚαὶ Andτίς whoἐστιν, is he,κύριε, lord,ἵνα in order thatπιστεύσω I should believeεἰς intoαὐτόν; him? 37  εἶπεν Saidαὐτῷ to himtheἸησοῦς JesusΚαὶ Andἑώρακας you have seenαὐτὸν himκαὶ andthe (one)λαλῶν speakingμετὰ withσοῦ youἐκεῖνός that (one)ἐστιν. is. 38  The (one)δὲ butἔφη saidΠιστεύω, I am believing,κύριε· Lord;καὶ andπροσεκύνησεν he did obeisanceαὐτῷ. to him. 39  καὶ Andεἶπεν saidtheἸησοῦς JesusΕἰς Intoκρίμα judgmentἐγὼ Iεἰς intoτὸν theκόσμον worldτοῦτον thisἦλθον, I came,ἵνα in order thatοἱ the (ones)μὴ notβλέποντες seeingβλέπωσιν may seeκαὶ andοἱ the (ones)βλέποντες seeingτυφλοὶ blindγένωνται. should become. 40  Ἤκουσαν Heardἐκ out ofτῶν theΦαρισαίων Phariseesταῦτα these (things)οἱ the (ones)μετ’ withαὐτοῦ himὄντες, being,καὶ andεἶπαν they saidαὐτῷ to himΜὴ Notκαὶ alsoἡμεῖς weτυφλοί blindἐσμεν; are? 41  εἶπεν Saidαὐτοῖς to themtheἸησοῦς JesusΕἰ Ifτυφλοὶ blindἦτε, YOU may be,οὐκ notἂν likelyεἴχετε YOU were havingἁμαρτίαν· sin;νῦν nowδὲ butλέγετε YOU are sayingὅτι thatΒλέπομεν· We are seeing;theἁμαρτία sinὑμῶν of YOUμένει. is remaining.
