Luke 24:1-53

24  Τῇ To theδὲ butμιᾷ oneτῶν of theσαββάτων sabbathsὄρθρου of dawnβαθέως deepἐπὶ uponτὸ theμνῆμα tombἦλθαν they cameφέρουσαι bearingwhatἡτοίμασαν they got readyἀρώματα. spices. 2  εὗρον They foundδὲ butτὸν theλίθον stoneἀποκεκυλισμένον having been rolled awayἀπὸ fromτοῦ theμνημείου, memorial tomb, 3  εἰσελθοῦσαι having enteredδὲ butοὐχ notεὗρον they foundτὸ theσῶμα body[[τοῦ [[of theκυρίου LordἸησοῦ]]. Jesus]]. 4  καὶ Andἐγένετο it occurredἐν inτῷ theἀπορεῖσθαι to be perplexedαὐτὰς themπερὶ aboutτούτου thisκαὶ andἰδοὺ look!ἄνδρες male personsδύο twoἐπέστησαν stood uponαὐταῖς themἐν inἐσθῆτι clothingἀστραπτούσῃ. flashing. 5  ἐμφόβων In fearδὲ butγενομένων having becomeαὐτῶν of themκαὶ andκλινουσῶν incliningτὰ theπρόσωπα facesεἰς intoτὴν theγῆν earthεἶπαν they saidπρὸς towardαὐτάς themΤί Whyζητεῖτε are YOU looking forτὸν theζῶντα living oneμετὰ withτῶν theνεκρῶν; dead (ones)? 6  [[οὐκ [[Notἔστιν he isὧδε, here,ἀλλὰ butἠγέρθη.]] he was raised.]]μνήσθητε Remember YOUὡς asἐλάλησεν he spokeὑμῖν to YOUἔτι yetὢν beingἐν inτῇ theΓαλιλαίᾳ, Galilee, 7  λέγων sayingτὸν theυἱὸν Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manὅτι thatδεῖ it is necessaryπαραδοθῆναι to be given besideεἰς intoχεῖρας handsἀνθρώπων of menἁμαρτωλῶν sinnersκαὶ andσταυρωθῆναι to be impaledκαὶ andτῇ to theτρίτῃ thirdἡμέρᾳ dayἀναστῆναι. to stand up. 8  καὶ Andἐμνήσθησαν they rememberedτῶν of theῥημάτων sayingsαὐτοῦ, of him, 9  καὶ andὑποστρέψασαι having returnedἀπὸ fromτοῦ theμνημείου memorial tombἀπήγγειλαν they reportedταῦτα these (things)πάντα allτοῖς to theἕνδεκα elevenκαὶ andπᾶσιν to allτοῖς theλοιποῖς. leftover (ones). 10  ἦσαν They wereδὲ buttheΜαγδαληνὴ MagdaleneΜαρία Maryκαὶ andἸωάνα Joannaκαὶ andΜαρία Marythe [mother]Ἰακώβου· of James;καὶ andαἱ theλοιπαὶ leftover (ones)σὺν together withαὐταῖς themἔλεγον were sayingπρὸς towardτοὺς theἀποστόλους apostlesταῦτα. these (things). 11  καὶ Andἐφάνησαν appearedἐνώπιον in sightαὐτῶν of themὡσεὶ as ifλῆρος nonsenseτὰ theῥήματα sayingsταῦτα, these,καὶ andἠπίστουν were disbelievingαὐταῖς. to them. 12  [[Ὁ [[Theδὲ butΠέτρος Peterἀναστὰς having stood upἔδραμεν ranἐπὶ uponτὸ theμνημεῖον· memorial tomb;καὶ andπαρακύψας having stooped forwardβλέπει he is looking atτὰ theὀθόνια bandagesμόνα· alone;καὶ andἀπῆλθεν he went offπρὸς towardαὑτὸν himselfθαυμάζων wondering atτὸ the (thing)γεγονός.]] having occurred.]] 13  Καὶ Andἰδοὺ look!δύο twoἐξ out ofαὐτῶν themἐν inαὐτῇ veryτῇ theἡμέρᾳ dayἦσαν wereπορευόμενοι goingεἰς intoκώμην villageἀπέχουσαν having self fromσταδίους stadiaἑξήκοντα sixtyἀπὸ fromἸερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem,to whichὄνομα name᾿Εμμαούς, Emmaus, 14  καὶ andαὐτοὶ theyὡμίλουν were conversingπρὸς towardἀλλήλους each otherπερὶ aboutπάντων allτῶν the (things)συμβεβηκότων having stepped withτούτων. these. 15  καὶ Andἐγένετο it occurredἐν inτῷ theὁμιλεῖν to be conversingαὐτοὺς themκαὶ andσυνζητεῖν to be seeking togetherκαὶ alsoαὐτὸς heἸησοῦς Jesusἐγγίσας having approachedσυνεπορεύετο was going his way withαὐτοῖς, them, 16  οἱ theδὲ butὀφθαλμοὶ eyesαὐτῶν of themἐκρατοῦντο were being held fastτοῦ of theμὴ notἐπιγνῶναι to recognizeαὐτόν. him. 17  εἶπεν He saidδὲ butπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΤίνες Whatοἱ theλόγοι wordsοὗτοι theseοὕς whichἀντιβάλλετε YOU are throwing in exchangeπρὸς towardἀλλήλους each otherπεριπατοῦντες; walking about?καὶ Andἐστάθησαν they stoodσκυθρωποί. sad-faced. 18  ἀποκριθεὶς Having answeredδὲ butεἷς oneὀνόματι to nameΚλεόπας Cleopasεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardαὐτόν himΣὺ Youμόνος aloneπαροικεῖς are lodging atἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemκαὶ andοὐκ notἔγνως you knewτὰ the (things)γενόμενα having occurredἐν inαὐτῇ itἐν inταῖς theἡμέραις daysταύταις; these? 19  καὶ Andεἶπεν he saidαὐτοῖς to themΠοῖα; What sort of (things)?οἱ The (ones)δὲ butεἶπαν saidαὐτῷ to himΤὰ The (things)περὶ aboutἸησοῦ Jesusτοῦ of theΝαζαρηνοῦ, Nazarene,ὃς whoἐγένετο proved to beἀνὴρ male personπροφήτης prophetδυνατὸς powerfulἐν inἔργῳ workκαὶ andλόγῳ wordἐναντίον in frontτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαὶ andπαντὸς of allτοῦ theλαοῦ, people, 20  ὅπως howτε andπαρέδωκαν gave besideαὐτὸν himοἱ theἀρχιερεῖς chief priestsκαὶ andοἱ theἄρχοντες rulersἡμῶν of usεἰς intoκρίμα judgmentθανάτου of deathκαὶ andἐσταύρωσαν impaledαὐτόν. him. 21  ἡμεῖς Weδὲ butἠλπίζομεν were hopingὅτι thatαὐτός heἐστιν isthe (one)μέλλων being aboutλυτροῦσθαι to let looseτὸν theἸσραήλ· Israel;ἀλλά butγε indeedκαὶ alsoσὺν withπᾶσιν allτούτοις these (things)τρίτην thirdταύτην thisἡμέραν dayἄγει it is leadingἀφ’ fromοὗ which [time]ταῦτα these (things)ἐγένετο. occurred. 22  ἀλλὰ Butκαὶ alsoγυναῖκές womenτινες someἐξ out ofἡμῶν usἐξέστησαν astonishedἡμᾶς, us,γενόμεναι having come to beὀρθριναὶ earlyἐπὶ uponτὸ theμνημεῖον memorial tomb 23  καὶ andμὴ notεὑροῦσαι having foundτὸ theσῶμα bodyαὐτοῦ of himἦλθαν they cameλέγουσαι sayingκαὶ alsoὀπτασίαν visionἀγγέλων of angelsἑωρακέναι, to have seen,οἳ whoλέγουσιν are sayingαὐτὸν himζῇν. to be living. 24  καὶ Andἀπῆλθάν went offτινες someτῶν of the (ones)σὺν together withἡμῖν usἐπὶ uponτὸ theμνημεῖον, memorial tomb,καὶ andεὗρον foundοὕτως thusκαθὼς according asαἱ theγυναῖκες womenεἶπον, said,αὐτὸν himδὲ butοὐκ notεἶδον. they saw. 25  καὶ Andαὐτὸς heεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardαὐτούς them῏Ω Oἀνόητοι senseless (ones)καὶ andβραδεῖς slowτῇ to theκαρδίᾳ heartτοῦ of theπιστεύειν to be believingἐπὶ uponπᾶσιν all (things)οἷς whichἐλάλησαν spokeοἱ theπροφῆται· prophets; 26  οὐχὶ notταῦτα these (things)ἔδει it was necessaryπαθεῖν to sufferτὸν theχριστὸν Christκαὶ andεἰσελθεῖν to enterεἰς intoτὴν theδόξαν gloryαὐτοῦ; of him? 33  Καὶ Andἀναστάντες having stood upαὐτῇ to veryτῇ theὥρᾳ hourὑπέστρεψαν they returnedεἰς intoἸερουσαλήμ, Jerusalem,καὶ andεὗρον they foundἠθροισμένους having been collected togetherτοὺς theἕνδεκα elevenκαὶ andτοὺς the (ones)σὺν together withαὐτοῖς, them, 34  λέγοντας sayingὅτι thatὄντως actuallyἠγέρθη was raised uptheκύριος Lordκαὶ andὤφθη was seenΣίμωνι. to Simon. 35  καὶ Andαὐτοὶ theyἐξηγοῦντο were explainingτὰ the (things)ἐν inτῇ theὁδῷ wayκαὶ andὡς howἐγνώσθη he became knownαὐτοῖς to themἐν inτῇ theκλάσει breakingτοῦ of theἄρτου. bread [loaf]. 36  Ταῦτα These (things)δὲ butαὐτῶν of themλαλούντων speakingαὐτὸς heἔστη stoodἐν inμέσῳ midstαὐτῶν of them[[καὶ [[andλέγει he is sayingαὐτοῖς to themΕἰρήνη Peaceὑμῖν]]. to YOU]]. 37  πτοηθέντες Having been terrifiedδὲ butκαὶ andἔμφοβοι (ones) in fearγενόμενοι having becomeἐδόκουν they were thinkingπνεῦμα spiritθεωρεῖν. to be beholding. 38  καὶ Andεἶπεν he saidαὐτοῖς to themΤί Whyτεταραγμένοι having been troubledἐστέ, YOU are,καὶ andδιὰ throughτί whatδιαλογισμοὶ reasoningsἀναβαίνουσιν are coming upἐν inτῇ theκαρδίᾳ heartὑμῶν; of YOU? 39  ἴδετε See YOUτὰς theχεῖράς handsμου of meκαὶ andτοὺς theπόδας feetμου of meὅτι thatἐγώ Iεἰμι amαὐτός· he;ψηλαφήσατέ feel YOUμε meκαὶ andἴδετε, see YOU,ὅτι becauseπνεῦμα spiritσάρκα fleshκαὶ andὀστέα bonesοὐκ notἔχει is havingκαθὼς according asἐμὲ meθεωρεῖτε YOU are beholdingἔχοντα. having. 40  [[καὶ [[Andτοῦτο this (thing)εἰπὼν having saidἔδειξεν he showedαὐτοῖς to themτὰς theχεῖρας handsκαὶ andτοὺς theπόδας.]] feet.]] 41  Ἔτι Yetδὲ butἀπιστούντων disbelievingαὐτῶν of themἀπὸ fromτῆς theχαρᾶς joyκαὶ andθαυμαζόντων wonderingεἶπεν he saidαὐτοῖς to themἜχετέ Are YOU havingτι somethingβρώσιμον eatableἐνθάδε; there? 42  οἱ The (ones)δὲ butἐπέδωκαν gave onαὐτῷ to himἰχθύος of fishὀπτοῦ broiledμέρος· piece; 43  καὶ andλαβὼν having takenἐνώπιον in sightαὐτῶν of themἔφαγεν. he ate. 44  Εἶπεν He saidδὲ butπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΟὗτοι Theseοἱ theλόγοι wordsμου of meοὓς whichἐλάλησα I spokeπρὸς towardὑμᾶς YOUἔτι yetὢν beingσὺν together withὑμῖν, YOU,ὅτι thatδεῖ it is necessaryπληρωθῆναι to be fulfilledπάντα allτὰ the (things)γεγραμμένα having been writtenἐν inτῷ theνόμῳ lawΜωυσέως of Mosesκαὶ andτοῖς to theπροφήταις Prophetsκαὶ andΨαλμοῖς Psalmsπερὶ aboutἐμοῦ. me. 45  τότε Thenδιήνοιξεν he opened fullyαὐτῶν of themτὸν theνοῦν mindτοῦ of theσυνιέναι to be putting togetherτὰς theγραφάς, Scriptures, 46  καὶ andεἶπεν he saidαὐτοῖς to themὅτι thatοὕτως thusγέγραπται it has been writtenπαθεῖν to sufferτὸν theχριστὸν Christκαὶ andἀναστῆναι to stand upἐκ out ofνεκρῶν dead (ones)τῇ to theτρίτῃ thirdἡμέρᾳ, day, 47  καὶ andκηρυχθῆναι to be preachedἐπὶ uponτῷ theὀνόματι nameαὐτοῦ of himμετάνοιαν repentanceεἰς intoἄφεσιν letting go offἁμαρτιῶν of sinsεἰς intoπάντα allτὰ theἔθνη,— nations,—ἀρξάμενοι (ones) startingἀπὸ fromἸερουσαλήμ· Jerusalem; 48  ὑμεῖς YOUμάρτυρες witnessesτούτων. of these (things). 49  καὶ Andἰδοὺ look!ἐγὼ Iἐξαποστέλλω am sending off outτὴν theἐπαγγελίαν promiseτοῦ of theπατρός Fatherμου of meἐφ’ uponὑμᾶς· YOU;ὑμεῖς YOUδὲ butκαθίσατε sit YOU downἐν inτῇ theπόλει cityἕως untilοὗ what [time]ἐνδύσησθε YOU might become clothedἐξ out ofὕψους heightδύναμιν. power. 50  ᾿Εξήγαγεν He led outδὲ butαὐτοὺς themἕως untilπρὸς towardΒηθανίαν, Bethany,καὶ andἐπάρας having lifted upτὰς theχεῖρας handsαὐτοῦ of himεὐλόγησεν he blessedαὐτούς. them. 51  καὶ Andἐγένετο it occurredἐν inτῷ theεὐλογεῖν to be blessingαὐτὸν himαὐτοὺς themδιέστη he stood throughἀπ’ fromαὐτῶν them[[καὶ [[andἀνεφέρετο he was being borne upεἰς intoτὸν theοὐρανόν]]. heaven]]. 52  καὶ Andαὐτοὶ they[[προσκυνήσαντες [[having done obeisance toαὐτὸν]] him]]ὑπέστρεψαν they returnedεἰς intoἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemμετὰ withχαρᾶς joyμεγάλης, great, 53  καὶ andἦσαν they wereδιὰ throughπαντὸς allἐν inτῷ theἱερῷ templeεὐλογοῦντες blessingτὸν theθεόν.
