Luke 5:1-39

5  ᾿Εγένετο It occurredδὲ butἐν inτῷ the [time]τὸν theὄχλον crowdἐπικεῖσθαι to be lying uponαὐτῷ himκαὶ andἀκούειν to be hearingτὸν theλόγον wordτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαὶ andαὐτὸς heἦν wasἑστὼς having stoodπαρὰ besideτὴν theλίμνην lakeΓεννησαρέτ, Gennesaret, 2  καὶ andεἶδεν he sawπλοῖα boatsδύο twoἑστῶτα having stoodπαρὰ besideτὴν theλίμνην, lake,οἱ theδὲ butἁλεεῖς fishermenἀπ’ fromαὐτῶν themἀποβάντες having stepped offἔπλυνον were washing offτὰ theδίκτυα. nets. 3  ἐμβὰς Having stepped inδὲ butεἰς intoἓν oneτῶν of theπλοίων, boats,whichἦν wasΣίμωνος, of Simon,ἠρώτησεν he requestedαὐτὸν himἀπὸ fromτῆς theγῆς earthἐπαναγαγεῖν to lead upward uponὀλίγον, little,καθίσας having sat downδὲ butἐκ out ofτοῦ theπλοίου boatἐδίδασκεν he was teachingτοὺς theὄχλους. crowds. 4  ὡς Asδὲ butἐπαύσατο he ceasedλαλῶν, speaking,εἶπεν he saidπρὸς towardτὸν theΣίμωνα Simon᾿Επανάγαγε Lead upward uponεἰς intoτὸ theβάθος deepκαὶ andχαλάσατε lowerτὰ theδίκτυα netsὑμῶν of YOUεἰς intoἄγραν. catch. 5  καὶ Andἀποκριθεὶς having answeredΣίμων Simonεἶπεν said᾿Επιστάτα, Instructor,δι’ throughὅλης wholeνυκτὸς nightκοπιάσαντες having toiledοὐδὲν nothingἐλάβομεν, we took,ἐπὶ uponδὲ butτῷ theῥήματί sayingσου of youχαλάσω I shall lowerτὰ theδίκτυα. nets. 6  καὶ Andτοῦτο thisποιήσαντες having doneσυνέκλεισαν they enclosedπλῆθος multitudeἰχθύων of fishesπολύ, much,διερήσσετο were being broken throughδὲ butτὰ theδίκτυα netsαὐτῶν. of them. 7  καὶ Andκατένευσαν they motionedτοῖς to theμετόχοις partnersἐν inτῷ theἑτέρῳ differentπλοίῳ boatτοῦ of theἐλθόντας (ones) having comeσυλλαβέσθαι to give assistanceαὐτοῖς· to them;καὶ andἦλθαν, they came,καὶ andἔπλησαν they filledἀμφότερα bothτὰ theπλοῖα boatsὥστε as-andβυθίζεσθαι to be sinkingαὐτά. them. 8  ἰδὼν Having seenδὲ butΣίμων SimonΠέτρος Peterπροσέπεσεν fell down towardτοῖς theγόνασιν kneesἸησοῦ of Jesusλέγων sayingἜξελθε Go outἀπ’ fromἐμοῦ, me,ὅτι becauseἀνὴρ male personἁμαρτωλός sinfulεἰμι, I am,κύριε· Lord; 9  θάμβος astonishmentγὰρ forπεριέσχεν overwhelmedαὐτὸν himκαὶ andπάντας allτοὺς the (ones)σὺν together withαὐτῷ himἐπὶ uponτῇ theἄγρᾳ catchτῶν of theἰχθύων fishesὧν of whichσυνέλαβον, they took together, 10  ὁμοίως likewiseδὲ butκαὶ alsoἸάκωβον Jamesκαὶ andἸωάνην Johnυἱοὺς sonsΖεβεδαίου, of Zebedee,οἳ whoἦσαν wereκοινωνοὶ sharersτῷ to theΣίμωνι. Jesus. 20  καὶ Andἰδὼν having seenτὴν theπίστιν faithαὐτῶν of themεἶπεν he saidἌνθρωπε, Man,ἀφέωνταί have been let go offσοι to youαἱ theἁμαρτίαι sinsσου. of you. 21  καὶ Andἤρξαντο startedδιαλογίζεσθαι to be reasoningοἱ theγραμματεῖς scribesκαὶ andοἱ theΦαρισαῖοι Phariseesλέγοντες sayingΤίς Whoἐστιν isοὗτος thisὃς whoλαλεῖ is speakingβλασφημίας; blasphemies?τίς Whoδύναται is ableἁμαρτίας sinsἀφεῖναι to be letting go offεἰ ifμὴ notμόνος alonetheθεός; God? 22  ἐπιγνοὺς Having recognizedδὲ buttheἸησοῦς Jesusτοὺς theδιαλογισμοὺς reasoningsαὐτῶν of themἀποκριθεὶς having answeredεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΤί Whatδιαλογίζεσθε are YOU reasoningἐν inταῖς theκαρδίαις heartsὑμῶν; of YOU? 23  τί Which (thing)ἐστιν isεὐκοπώτερον, easier,εἰπεῖν to say᾿Αφέωνταί Have been let go offσοι to youαἱ theἁμαρτίαι sinsσου, of you,orεἰπεῖν to sayἜγειρε Be getting upκαὶ andπεριπάτει; be walking about? 24  ἵνα In order thatδὲ butεἰδῆτε YOU might knowὅτι thattheυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου manἐξουσίαν authorityἔχει is havingἐπὶ uponτῆς theγῆς earthἀφιέναι to be letting go offἁμαρτίας— sins—εἶπεν he saidτῷ to theπαραλελυμένῳ (one) having been paralyzedΣοὶ To youλέγω, I am saying,ἔγειρε Be getting upκαὶ andἄρας having lifted upτὸ theκλινίδιόν little bedσου of youπορεύου be going your wayεἰς intoτὸν theοἶκόν houseσου. of you. 25  καὶ Andπαραχρῆμα instantlyἀναστὰς having stood upἐνώπιον in sightαὐτῶν, of them,ἄρας having lifted upἐφ’ uponwhichκατέκειτο, he was lying down,ἀπῆλθεν he went offεἰς intoτὸν theοἶκον houseαὐτοῦ of himδοξάζων glorifyingτὸν theθεόν. God. 26  Καὶ Andἔκστασις ecstasyἔλαβεν tookἅπαντας all (them)καὶ andἐδόξαζον they were glorifyingτὸν theθεόν, God,καὶ andἐπλήσθησαν became filledφόβου of fearλέγοντες sayingὅτι thatΕἴδαμεν We sawπαράδοξα strange (things)σήμερον. today. 27  Καὶ Andμετὰ afterταῦτα these (things)ἐξῆλθεν he went outκαὶ andἐθεάσατο beheldτελώνην tax collectorὀνόματι to nameΛευεὶν Leviκαθήμενον sittingἐπὶ uponτὸ theτελώνιον, tax office,καὶ andεἶπεν he saidαὐτῷ to him᾿Ακολούθει Be followingμοι. to me. 28  καὶ Andκαταλιπὼν having left behindπάντα all (things)ἀναστὰς having stood upἠκολούθει he was followingαὐτῷ. to him. 29  Καὶ Andἐποίησεν madeδοχὴν reception feastμεγάλην greatΛευεὶς Leviαὐτῷ to himἐν inτῇ theοἰκίᾳ houseαὐτοῦ· of him;καὶ andἦν wasὄχλος crowdπολὺς muchτελωνῶν of tax collectorsκαὶ andἄλλων of othersοἳ whoἦσαν wereμετ’ withαὐτῶν themκατακείμενοι. lying down. 30  καὶ Andἐγόγγυζον were murmuringοἱ theΦαρισαῖοι Phariseesκαὶ andοἱ theγραμματεῖς scribesαὐτῶν of themπρὸς towardτοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesαὐτοῦ of himλέγοντες sayingΔιὰ Throughτί whatμετὰ withτῶν theτελωνῶν tax collectorsκαὶ andἁμαρτωλῶν sinnersἐσθίετε are YOU eatingκαὶ andπίνετε; are YOU drinking? 31  καὶ Andἀποκριθεὶς having answeredtheἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΟὐ Notχρείαν needἔχουσιν are havingοἱ theὑγιαίνοντες (ones) being healthyἰατροῦ of healerἀλλὰ butοἱ the (ones)κακῶς badlyἔχοντες· having; 32  οὐκ notἐλήλυθα I have comeκαλέσαι to callδικαίους righteous (ones)ἀλλὰ butἁμαρτωλοὺς sinnersεἰς intoμετάνοιαν. repentance. 33  Οἱ The (ones)δὲ butεἶπαν saidπρὸς towardαὐτόν himΟἱ Theμαθηταὶ disciplesἸωάνου of Johnνηστεύουσιν are fastingπυκνὰ frequentlyκαὶ andδεήσεις supplicationsποιοῦνται, are making,ὁμοίως likewiseκαὶ alsoοἱ the (ones)τῶν of theΦαρισαίων, Pharisees,οἱ the (ones)δὲ butσοὶ to youἐσθίουσιν are eatingκαὶ andπίνουσιν. are drinking. 34  Theδὲ butἸησοῦς Jesusεἶπεν saidπρὸς towardαὐτούς themΜὴ Notδύνασθε YOU are ableτοὺς theυἱοὺς sonsτοῦ of theνυμφῶνος bridechamberἐν inwhich [time]theνυμφίος bridegroomμετ’ withαὐτῶν themἐστὶν isποιῆσαι to makeνηστεῦσαι; to fast? 35  ἐλεύσονται Will comeδὲ butἡμέραι, days,καὶ andὅταν wheneverἀπαρθῇ may have been removedἀπ’ fromαὐτῶν themtheνυμφίος bridegroomτότε thenνηστεύσουσιν they will fastἐν inἐκείναις thoseταῖς theἡμέραις. days. 36  Ἔλεγεν He was sayingδὲ butκαὶ alsoπαραβολὴν parableπρὸς towardαὐτοὺς themὅτι thatΟὐδεὶς No oneἐπίβλημα cast-upon (piece)ἀπὸ fromἱματίου outer garmentκαινοῦ newσχίσας having tornἐπιβάλλει he casts onἐπὶ uponἱμάτιον outer garmentπαλαιόν· old;εἰ ifδὲ butμήγε, not at least,καὶ alsoτὸ theκαινὸν newσχίσει will tear awayκαὶ andτῷ to theπαλαιῷ oldοὐ notσυμφωνήσει will sound withτὸ theἐπίβλημα cast-upon (piece)τὸ theἀπὸ fromτοῦ theκαινοῦ. new. 37  καὶ Andοὐδεὶς no oneβάλλει throwsοἶνον wineνέον newεἰς intoἀσκοὺς skin bagsπαλαιούς· old;εἰ ifδὲ butμήγε, not at least,ῥήξει will bursttheοἶνος winetheνέος newτοὺς theἀσκούς, skin bags,καὶ andαὐτὸς itἐκχυθήσεται will be spilled outκαὶ andοἱ theἀσκοὶ skin bagsἀπολοῦνται· will be destroyed; 38  ἀλλὰ butοἶνον wineνέον newεἰς intoἀσκοὺς skin bagsκαινοὺς new (ones)βλητέον. to be thrown. 39  Οὐδεὶς No oneπιὼν having drunkπαλαιὸν oldθέλει is willingνέον· new;λέγει he is sayingγάρ forTheπαλαιὸς oldχρηστός niceἐστιν. is.
