Luke 6:1-49

6  ᾿Εγένετο It occurredδὲ butἐν inσαββάτῳ sabbathδιαπορεύεσθαι to be going his way throughαὐτὸν himδιὰ throughσπορίμων, sowings,καὶ andἔτιλλον were pluckingοἱ theμαθηταὶ disciplesαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἤσθιον were eatingτοὺς theστάχυας heads of grainψώχοντες rubbingταῖς to theχερσίν. hands. 2  τινὲς Someδὲ butτῶν of theΦαρισαίων Phariseesεἶπαν saidΤί Whyποιεῖτε are YOU doingwhichοὐκ notἔξεστιν is lawfulτοῖς to theσάββασιν; sabbaths? 3  καὶ Andἀποκριθεὶς having answeredπρὸς towardαὐτοὺς themεἶπεν saidtheἸησοῦς JesusΟὐδὲ Neitherτοῦτο thisἀνέγνωτε did YOU readwhichἐποίησεν didΔαυεὶδ Davidὅτε whenἐπείνασεν he got hungryαὐτὸς heκαὶ andοἱ the (ones)μετ’ withαὐτοῦ; him? 4  ὡς Howεἰσῆλθεν he enteredεἰς intoτὸν theοἶκον houseτοῦ of theθεοῦ Godκαὶ andτοὺς theἄρτους loavesτῆς of theπροθέσεως presentationλαβὼν having takenἔφαγεν he ateκαὶ andἔδωκεν gaveτοῖς to the (ones)μετ’ withαὐτοῦ, him,οὓς whichοὐκ notἔξεστιν it is lawfulφαγεῖν to eatεἰ ifμὴ notμόνους aloneτοὺς theἱερεῖς; priests? 5  καὶ Andἔλεγεν he was sayingαὐτοῖς to themΚύριός Lordἐστιν isτοῦ of theσαββάτου sabbaththeυἱὸς Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου. man. 6  ᾿Εγένετο It occurredδὲ butἐν inἑτέρῳ differentσαββάτῳ sabbathεἰσελθεῖν to enterαὐτὸν himεἰς intoτὴν theσυναγωγὴν synagogueκαὶ andδιδάσκειν· to be teaching;καὶ andἦν wasἄνθρωπος manἐκεῖ thereκαὶ andtheχεὶρ handαὐτοῦ of himtheδεξιὰ rightἦν wasξηρά· dry; 7  παρετηροῦντο were observing besideδὲ butαὐτὸν himοἱ theγραμματεῖς scribesκαὶ andοἱ theΦαρισαῖοι Phariseesεἰ ifἐν inτῷ theσαββάτῳ sabbathθεραπεύει, he is curing,ἵνα in order thatεὕρωσιν they might findκατηγορεῖν to be accusingαὐτοῦ. him. 8  αὐτὸς Heδὲ butᾔδει had knownτοὺς theδιαλογισμοὺς reasoningsαὐτῶν, of them,εἶπεν saidδὲ butτῷ to theἀνδρὶ male personτῷ to the (one)ξηρὰν dryἔχοντι havingτὴν theχεῖρα handἜγειρε Be getting upκαὶ andστῆθι standεἰς intoτὸ theμέσον· midst;καὶ andἀναστὰς having stood upἔστη. he stood. 9  εἶπεν Saidδὲ buttheἸησοῦς Jesusπρὸς towardαὐτούς them᾿Επερωτῶ I inquire uponὑμᾶς, YOU,εἰ Ifἔξεστιν it is lawfulτῷ to theσαββάτῳ sabbathἀγαθοποιῆσαι to do goodorκακοποιῆσαι, to do bad,ψυχὴν soulσῶσαι to saveorἀπολέσαι; to destroy? 10  καὶ Andπεριβλεψάμενος having looked around atπάντας allαὐτοὺς themεἶπεν he saidαὐτῷ to himἜκτεινον Stretch outτὴν theχεῖρά handσου· of you;the (one)δὲ butἐποίησεν, did,καὶ andἀπεκατεστάθη was restoredtheχεὶρ handαὐτοῦ. of him. 11  Αὐτοὶ Theyδὲ butἐπλήσθησαν became filledἀνοίας, of madness,καὶ andδιελάλουν were talking throughπρὸς towardἀλλήλους one anotherτί whatἂν likelyποιήσαιεν they would doτῷ to theἸησοῦ. Jesus. 12  ᾿Εγένετο It happenedδὲ butἐν inταῖς theἡμέραις daysταύταις theseἐξελθεῖν to go outαὐτὸν himεἰς intoτὸ theὄρος mountainπροσεύξασθαι, to pray,καὶ andἦν he wasδιανυκτερεύων continuing through the nightἐν inτῇ theπροσευχῇ prayerτοῦ of theθεοῦ. God. 13  καὶ Andὅτε whenἐγένετο it becameἡμέρα, day,προσεφώνησεν he sounded toward [himself]τοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesαὐτοῦ, of him,καὶ andἐκλεξάμενος having chosenἀπ’ fromαὐτῶν themδώδεκα, twelve,οὓς whomκαὶ alsoἀποστόλους apostlesὠνόμασεν, he named, 14  Σίμωνα Simonὃν whomκαὶ alsoὠνόμασεν he namedΠέτρον Peterκαὶ and᾿Ανδρέαν Andrewτὸν theἀδελφὸν brotherαὐτοῦ of himκαὶ andἸάκωβον Jamesκαὶ andἸωάνην Johnκαὶ andΦίλιππον Philipκαὶ andΒαρθολομαῖον Bartholomew 15  καὶ andΜαθθαῖον Matthewκαὶ andΘωμᾶν Thomasκαὶ andἸάκωβον JamesἉλφαίου of Alphaeusκαὶ andΣίμωνα Simonτὸν the (one)καλούμενον being calledΖηλωτὴν Zealot 16  καὶ andἸούδαν JudasἸακώβου of Jamesκαὶ andἸούδαν JudasἸσκαριὼθ Iscariotὃς whoἐγένετο becameπροδότης, betrayer, 17  καὶ andκαταβὰς having come downμετ’ withαὐτῶν themἔστη he stoodἐπὶ uponτόπου placeπεδινοῦ, level,καὶ andὄχλος crowdπολὺς muchμαθητῶν of disciplesαὐτοῦ, of him,καὶ andπλῆθος multitudeπολὺ muchτοῦ of theλαοῦ peopleἀπὸ fromπάσης allτῆς theἸουδαίας Judeaκαὶ andἸερουσαλὴμ Jerusalemκαὶ andτῆς theπαραλίου maritime [country]Τύρου of Tyreκαὶ andΣιδῶνος, Sidon,οἳ whoἦλθαν cameἀκοῦσαι to hearαὐτοῦ himκαὶ andἰαθῆναι to be healedἀπὸ fromτῶν theνόσων sicknessesαὐτῶν· of them; 18  καὶ andοἱ the (ones)ἐνοχλούμενοι being troubledἀπὸ fromπνευμάτων spiritsἀκαθάρτων uncleanἐθεραπεύοντο· were being cured; 19  καὶ andπᾶς alltheὄχλος crowdἐζήτουν were seekingἅπτεσθαι to be touchingαὐτοῦ, him,ὅτι becauseδύναμις powerπαρ’ besideαὐτοῦ himἐξήρχετο was coming outκαὶ andἰᾶτο was healingπάντας. all. 20  Καὶ Andαὐτὸς heἐπάρας having lifted uponτοὺς theὀφθαλμοὺς eyesαὐτοῦ of himεἰς intoτοὺς theμαθητὰς disciplesαὐτοῦ of himἔλεγεν was saying Μακάριοι Happyοἱ theπτωχοί, poor (ones),ὅτι becauseὑμετέρα YOURSἐστὶν istheβασιλεία kingdomτοῦ of theθεοῦ. God. 21  μακάριοι Happyοἱ the (ones)πεινῶντες hungeringνῦν, now,ὅτι becauseχορτασθήσεσθε. YOU will be satiated. μακάριοι Happyοἱ the (ones)κλαίοντες weepingνῦν, now,ὅτι becauseγελάσετε. YOU will laugh. 22  μακάριοί Happyἐστε YOU areὅταν wheneverμισήσωσιν might hateὑμᾶς YOUοἱ theἄνθρωποι, men,καὶ andὅταν wheneverἀφορίσωσιν they might separateὑμᾶς YOUκαὶ andὀνειδίσωσιν might reproachκαὶ andἐκβάλωσιν might throw outτὸ theὄνομα nameὑμῶν of YOUὡς asπονηρὸν wickedἕνεκα on accountτοῦ of theυἱοῦ Sonτοῦ of theἀνθρώπου· man; 23  χάρητε may YOU rejoiceἐν inἐκείνῃ thatτῇ theἡμέρᾳ dayκαὶ andσκιρτήσατε, leap YOU,ἰδοὺ look!γὰρ fortheμισθὸς rewardὑμῶν of YOUπολὺς muchἐν inτῷ theοὐρανῷ· heaven;κατὰ according toτὰ theαὐτὰ very (things)γὰρ forἐποίουν were doingτοῖς to theπροφήταις prophetsοἱ theπατέρες fathersαὐτῶν. of them. 24  Πλὴν Besidesοὐαὶ woeὑμῖν to YOUτοῖς theπλουσίοις, rich (ones),ὅτι becauseἀπέχετε YOU are having backτὴν theπαράκλησιν consolationὑμῶν. of YOU. 25  οὐαὶ Woeὑμῖν, to YOU,οἱ the (ones)ἐμπεπλησμένοι having been filled withinνῦν, now,ὅτι becauseπεινάσετε. YOU will hunger. οὐαί, Woe,οἱ the (ones)γελῶντες laughingνῦν, now,ὅτι becauseπενθήσετε YOU will mournκαὶ andκλαύσετε. YOU will weep. 26  οὐαὶ Woeὅταν wheneverκαλῶς finelyὑμᾶς YOUεἴπωσιν might sayπάντες allοἱ theἄνθρωποι, men,κατὰ according toτὰ theαὐτὰ very (things)γὰρ forἐποίουν were doingτοῖς to theψευδοπροφήταις false prophetsοἱ theπατέρες fathersαὐτῶν. of them. 27  ᾿Αλλὰ Butὑμῖν to YOUλέγω I am sayingτοῖς to the (ones)ἀκούουσιν, hearing,ἀγαπᾶτε Be YOU lovingτοὺς theἐχθροὺς enemiesὑμῶν, of YOU,καλῶς finelyποιεῖτε be YOU doingτοῖς to the (ones)μισοῦσιν hatingὑμᾶς, YOU, 28  εὐλογεῖτε be YOU blessingτοὺς the (ones)καταρωμένους cursingὑμᾶς, YOU,προσεύχεσθε be YOU prayingπερὶ aboutτῶν the (ones)ἐπηρεαζόντων insultingὑμᾶς. YOU. 29  τῷ To the (one)τύπτοντί smitingσε youἐπὶ uponτὴν theσιαγόνα cheekπάρεχε be offeringκαὶ alsoτὴν theἄλλην, other,καὶ andἀπὸ fromτοῦ the (one)αἴροντός lifting upσου of youτὸ theἱμάτιον outer garmentκαὶ alsoτὸν theχιτῶνα undergarmentμὴ notκωλύσῃς. you should keep back. 30  παντὶ To everyoneαἰτοῦντί askingσε youδίδου, be giving,καὶ andἀπὸ fromτοῦ the (one)αἴροντος lifting upτὰ theσὰ your (things)μὴ notἀπαίτει. be asking back. 31  καὶ Andκαθὼς according asθέλετε YOU are willingἵνα in order thatποιῶσιν may doὑμῖν to YOUοἱ theἄνθρωποι, men,ποιεῖτε be YOU doingαὐτοῖς to themὁμοίως. likewise. 32  καὶ Andεἰ ifἀγαπᾶτε YOU are lovingτοὺς the (ones)ἀγαπῶντας lovingὑμᾶς, YOU,ποία of what sortὑμῖν to YOUχάρις favorἐστίν; is it?καὶ Alsoγὰρ forοἱ theἁμαρτωλοὶ sinnersτοὺς the (ones)ἀγαπῶντας lovingαὐτοὺς themἀγαπῶσιν. they are loving. 33  καὶ Andγὰρ forἐὰν if everἀγαθοποιῆτε YOU may be doing good toτοὺς the (ones)ἀγαθοποιοῦντας doing good toὑμᾶς, YOU,ποία of what sortὑμῖν to YOUχάρις favorἐστίν; is it?καὶ Alsoοἱ theἁμαρτωλοὶ sinnersτὸ theαὐτὸ very (things)ποιοῦσιν. are doing. 34  καὶ Andἐὰν if everδανίσητε YOU might lendπαρ’ besideὧν which (ones)ἐλπίζετε YOU are hopingλαβεῖν, to receive,ποία of what sortὑμῖν to YOUχάρις favorἐστίν; is it?καὶ Alsoἁμαρτωλοὶ sinnersἁμαρτωλοῖς to sinnersδανίζουσιν are lendingἵνα in order thatἀπολάβωσιν they might get backτὰ theἴσα. equal (things). 35  πλὴν Besidesἀγαπᾶτε be YOU lovingτοὺς theἐχθροὺς enemiesὑμῶν of YOUκαὶ andἀγαθοποιεῖτε be YOU doing goodκαὶ andδανίζετε be YOU lendingμηδὲν nothingἀπελπίζοντες· hoping [to get] back;καὶ andἔσται will betheμισθὸς rewardὑμῶν of YOUπολύς, much,καὶ andἔσεσθε YOU will beυἱοὶ sonsὙψίστου, of Most High,ὅτι becauseαὐτὸς heχρηστός kindἐστιν isἐπὶ uponτοὺς theἀχαρίστους unthankfulκαὶ andπονηρούς. wicked. 36  Γίνεσθε Continue YOU becomingοἰκτίρμονες mercifulκαθὼς according astheπατὴρ Fatherὑμῶν of YOUοἰκτίρμων mercifulἐστίν· is; 37  καὶ andμὴ notκρίνετε, be YOU judging,καὶ andοὐ notμὴ notκριθῆτε· YOU should be judged;καὶ andμὴ notκαταδικάζετε, be YOU condemning,καὶ andοὐ notμὴ notκαταδικασθῆτε. YOU might be condemned.ἀπολύετε, Be YOU releasing,καὶ andἀπολυθήσεσθε· YOU will be released; 38  δίδοτε, be YOU giving,καὶ andδοθήσεται it will be givenὑμῖν· to YOU;μέτρον measureκαλὸν fineπεπιεσμένον having been pressed downσεσαλευμένον having been shaken [together]ὑπερεκχυννόμενον overflowingδώσουσιν they will giveεἰς intoτὸν theκόλπον bosomὑμῶν· of YOU;to whatγὰρ forμέτρῳ measureμετρεῖτε YOU are measuringἀντιμετρηθήσεται it will be measured in returnὑμῖν. to YOU. 39  Εἶπεν He saidδὲ butκαὶ alsoπαραβολὴν parableαὐτοῖς to themΜήτι Not whatδύναται is ableτυφλὸς blind [man]τυφλὸν blind [man]ὁδηγεῖν; to be guiding?οὐχὶ Notἀμφότεροι bothεἰς intoβόθυνον pitἐμπεσοῦνται; will fall in? 40  οὐκ Notἔστιν isμαθητὴς discipleὑπὲρ overτὸν theδιδάσκαλον, teacher,κατηρτισμένος having been adjusted downδὲ butπᾶς everyoneἔσται will beὡς astheδιδάσκαλος teacherαὐτοῦ. of him. 41  Τί Whyδὲ butβλέπεις you are seeingτὸ theκάρφος strawτὸ the (one)ἐν inτῷ theὀφθαλμῷ eyeτοῦ of theἀδελφοῦ brotherσου, of you,τὴν theδὲ butδοκὸν rafterτὴν the (one)ἐν inτῷ theἰδίῳ ownὀφθαλμῷ eyeοὐ notκατανοεῖς; you are perceiving? 42  πῶς Howδύνασαι are you ableλέγειν to be sayingτῷ to theἀδελφῷ brotherσου of you᾿Αδελφέ, Brother,ἄφες let go offἐκβάλω I might throw outτὸ theκάρφος strawτὸ the (one)ἐν inτῷ theὀφθαλμῷ eyeσου, of you,αὐτὸς very (one)τὴν theἐν inτῷ theὀφθαλμῷ eyeσοῦ of youδοκὸν rafterοὐ notβλέπων; seeing?ὑποκριτά, Hypocrite,ἔκβαλε throw outπρῶτον firstτὴν theδοκὸν rafterἐκ fromτοῦ theὀφθαλμοῦ eyeσοῦ, of you,καὶ andτότε thenδιαβλέψεις you will clearly seeτὸ theκάρφος strawτὸ the (one)ἐν inτῷ theὀφθαλμῷ eyeτοῦ of theἀδελφοῦ brotherσου of youἐκβαλεῖν. to throw out. 43  Οὐ Notγὰρ forἔστιν isδένδρον treeκαλὸν fineποιοῦν makingκαρπὸν fruitσαπρόν, rotten,οὐδὲ neitherπάλιν againδένδρον treeσαπρὸν rottenποιοῦν makingκαρπὸν fruitκαλόν. fine. 44  ἕκαστον Eachγὰρ forδένδρον treeἐκ out ofτοῦ theἰδίου ownκαρποῦ fruitγινώσκεται· is being known;οὐ notγὰρ forἐξ out ofἀκανθῶν thornsσυλλέγουσιν they are gatheringσῦκα, figs,οὐδὲ norἐκ out ofβάτου thornbushσταφυλὴν grapesτρυγῶσιν. they are cutting off. 45  Theἀγαθὸς goodἄνθρωπος manἐκ out ofτοῦ theἀγαθοῦ goodθησαυροῦ treasureτῆς of theκαρδίας heartπροφέρει brings forthτὸ theἀγαθόν, good (thing),καὶ andtheπονηρὸς wicked (one)ἐκ out ofτοῦ theπονηροῦ wicked [treasure]προφέρει brings forthτὸ theπονηρόν· wicked (thing);ἐκ out ofγὰρ forπερισσεύματος abundanceκαρδίας of heartλαλεῖ speaksτὸ theστόμα mouthαὐτοῦ. of him. 46  Τί Whyδέ butμε meκαλεῖτε are YOU callingΚύριε Lordκύριε, Lord,καὶ andοὐ notποιεῖτε YOU are doingwhatλέγω; I am saying? 47  πᾶς Everyonethe (one)ἐρχόμενος comingπρός towardμε meκαὶ andἀκούων hearingμου of meτῶν theλόγων wordsκαὶ andποιῶν doingαὐτούς, them,ὑποδείξω I shall showὑμῖν to YOUτίνι to whomἐστὶν he isὅμοιος· like; 48  ὅμοιός likeἐστιν he isἀνθρώπῳ to manοἰκοδομοῦντι buildingοἰκίαν houseὃς whoἔσκαψεν dugκαὶ andἐβάθυνεν deepenedκαὶ andἔθηκεν putθεμέλιον foundationἐπὶ uponτὴν theπέτραν· rock-mass;πλημμύρης of flood-tideδὲ butγενομένης having occurredπροσέρηξεν broke towardtheποταμὸς riverτῇ to theοἰκίᾳ houseἐκείνῃ, that,καὶ andοὐκ notἴσχυσεν was strong enoughσαλεῦσαι to shakeαὐτὴν itδιὰ throughτὸ theκαλῶς finelyοἰκοδομῆσθαι to be builtαὐτήν. it. 49  The (one)δὲ butἀκούσας having heardκαὶ andμὴ notποιήσας having doneὅμοιός likeἐστιν isἀνθρώπῳ to manοἰκοδομήσαντι having builtοἰκίαν houseἐπὶ uponτὴν theγῆν groundχωρὶς apart fromθεμελίου, foundation,to whichπροσέρηξεν broke towardtheποταμός, river,καὶ andεὐθὺς at onceσυνέπεσεν, it collapsed,καὶ andἐγένετο becameτὸ theῥῆγμα breaking upτῆς of theοἰκίας houseἐκείνης thatμέγα. great.
