Uzal

(Uʹzal).

1. The sixth named of Joktan’s 13 sons, and also the tribe descended from him. (Ge 10:26-29; 1Ch 1:21) According to Arabian tradition, Sanʽa (capital of the Republic of Yemen) was anciently called ʼAzal and was connected with Uzal.

2. A place referred to in connection with Tyre’s traders, at Ezekiel 27:19. A suggested identification is the region Izalla, in NE Syria, near the upper Tigris River.
