First Corinthians 12:1-31

  • Gifts of the spirit (1-11)

  • One body, plenty parts (12-31)

12  Now my brothers, as for the gifts of the spirit, I no want make una no know about-am.  Una know say when una be people of the nations before,* them control and deceive una to follow idols wey no de talk, and una follow them go anywhere wey them fit direct una to go.  Now I want make una know say nobody wey the spirit of God de direct de talk say: “Jesus na person wey them don curse!” and nobody fit talk say: “Jesus na Lord!” unless the holy spirit direct the person.  Now, na different-different gifts dey, but na the same spirit dey;  and na different-different work dey, but na the same Lord dey;  and people get different-different things wey them de do,* but na the same God de use everybody de do all this things.  But the spirit de show im work for each person to benefit people.  The spirit de make one person to sabi talk things with sense,* the same spirit de make another person de talk things wey people no know about,  the same spirit de give another person faith, and that one spirit still de give another person the gifts to heal, 10  e still de make another person to do miracles, e de make another person to talk message from God, e de make another person to understand whether message na from God, e de make another person to speak different-different language,* and e de make another person to explain* different-different language. 11  But na the same spirit de do all this things, the spirit de give each person im own just as the spirit want. 12  Just as the body na one but e get plenty parts, and all the parts of that body even though say them plenty, na one body, na so the Christ still be. 13  Them baptize all of us with one spirit to form one body, whether we be Jew people or Greek people, whether we be slaves or free people, and all of us receive* one spirit. 14  True-true, no be only one part form body, but na many parts. 15  If the foot* talk say, “Because I no be hand, I no be part of the body,” that one no mean say e no be part of the body. 16  And if the ear talk say, “Because I no be eye, I no be part of the body,” that one no mean say e no be part of the body. 17  If the whole body na eye, wetin person go use de hear something? If the whole body na ear, wetin person go use de smell something? 18  But now, God don arrange each part for the body, just as e like. 19  If all the part na the same, body go dey? 20  But now, na plenty part dey, but na one body. 21  The eye no fit tell the hand say, “I no need you,” and the head no fit tell the foot* say, “I no need you.” 22  But the parts for the body wey be like wetin dey weak, dey important. 23  And the parts for the body wey we think say them no really get honor, we de give them big honor. So the parts for our body wey no really fine for our eye, we de take care of them well, 24  but the parts for our body wey really fine no need anything. But God don arrange the body for way wey e give big honor to the part wey need honor, 25  so that the body no go divide, but the parts go de care for each other. 26  If one part de suffer, all the other parts de suffer with-am; or if one part get honor, all the other parts de happy with-am. 27  Now, una be the body of Christ, and each of una na part of that body. 28  And God don give something to each person for congregation: number one, people wey be apostles; number two, people wey be prophet; number three, people wey be teachers; then people wey de do miracles; then people wey get gifts to heal; people wey de do things to help other people; people wey know how to direct; people wey de speak different-different language. 29  No be all of them be apostles, na all of them? No be all of them be prophets, na all of them? No be all of them be teachers, na all of them? No be all of them de do miracles, na all of them? 30  No be all of them get gifts to heal, na all of them? No be all of them de speak different-different language, na all of them? No be all of them know how to explain,* na all of them? 31  But make una de try una best to get the gifts wey dey important pass. And even with that one, I go show una the way wey better pass by far.
