Romans 7:1-25

  • Example wey show how them free people from the Law (1-6)

  • The Law make people know sin (7-12)

  • The struggle with sin (13-25)

7  My brothers, una no know say (because I de talk to people wey know law) the Law na oga* to person as long as say e dey alive?  For example, according to law, woman wey don marry go dey with im husband when the man still dey alive, but if im husband die, e don dey free from the law of im husband.  So, if e marry another man when im husband still dey alive, e go be woman wey de sleep with person wey no be im husband, but if im husband die, e dey free from the law of im husband so that if e marry another man, e no go be woman wey de sleep with person wey no be im husband.  So my brothers, because of the body of Christ una don still dey free from* the Law, so that another person fit get una, the person wey God bring back from death. This one go make us produce fruit for God.  When we be de live our life the way the body want, the Law make us know the bad things wey the body want, wey be de work for inside our body* and the fruit wey this one de produce na death.  But now, we don dey free from the Law because we don die leave the things wey hold us, so that we fit be slaves for new way through the spirit and no be for the old way through the Law wey them write.  So, wetin we go talk? The Law na sin? No, e no fit be! True-true, I for no know sin if no be because of the Law. For example, I for no know say na bad thing to put eye for something wey no be my own if the Law no talk say: “Make you no ever put eye for another person thing.”  But the commandment don give sin the chance to make me want de put eye for something wey no be my own for every way, because when law no dey, sin be don die.  The truth be say, I dey alive before law come. But when the commandment come, sin come back to life again, but I die. 10  And the commandment wey suppose lead me to life, na this one I see say e lead me to death. 11  The commandment give sin the chance to deceive me and kill me through-am. 12  So, the Law dey holy, and the commandment dey holy and righteous and good. 13  So, wetin dey good make me die? No, e no fit be! But na sin do-am, to show clear say sin de work inside me to bring death through wetin dey good, so that the commandment go fit show how sin really bad reach. 14  We know say the Law na from God through im spirit, but I be flesh wey get sin, wey them don sell as slave to sin. 15  I no understand wetin I de do. I no de do wetin I want do, but na wetin I hate I de do. 16  But, if I do wetin I no want do, I agree say the Law dey fine. 17  But now, no be me de really do-am, but na the sin wey de stay inside me. 18  I know say for inside me, wey be for inside my flesh, no good thing de live inside. I really want do wetin good, but I no get the power to do-am. 19  I no de do the good thing wey I want do, but na the bad thing wey I no want do I de do. 20  So if I de do wetin I no want do, no be me de really do-am, but na the sin wey de live inside me. 21  So I see say this law na true for my condition: When I want do the correct thing, na bad thing dey inside me. 22  The person wey I be for inside really like the law of God, 23  but I see say for inside my body,* another law de fight against the law of my mind and de take me as prisoner to the law of sin wey dey inside my body.* 24  I don suffer no be small! Who go save me from this body wey de die so? 25  I thank God because of Jesus Christ our Lord! So, with my mind I be slave to the law of God, but with my flesh, I be slave to the law of sin.
