Acts 13:1-52

13  Now prophets and teachers dey the congregation for Antioch. Them be: Bar′na·bas, Sym′e·on wey them de call Ni′ger, Lucius from Cy·re′ne, Man′a·en wey go school with Herod wey de rule, and Saul.  As them de do work* for Jehovah and de fast, the holy spirit talk say: “Select Bar′na·bas and Saul for me for the work wey I call them for.”  Then after them fast and pray, them put their hand ontop them and send them go.  So this men wey holy spirit send, go down to Se·leu′cia and from there, them enter boat go Cy′prus.  When them reach Sal′a·mis, them start to preach the word of God for the synagogues of Jew people. John dey with them too to help them.*  When them don go the whole island and reach Pa′phos, them meet one man wey be Jew person wey im name na Bar-Je′sus. Na person wey de do magic and na lie-lie prophet.  E dey with governor* Sergius Paulus, one man wey really sabi things. The governor call Bar′na·bas and Saul to come meet-am, and this man really want hear the word of God.  But that magic man wey them still de call El′y·mas (na the way them translate im name) start to dey against them. E de try to make the governor no believe the faith.  Then holy spirit start to full inside Saul wey them still de call Paul, and e look the man straight 10  and talk say: “You wey all kind of lie-lie and all kind of wicked thing full your body, you son of the Devil, you wey be enemy of everything wey dey correct for God eye, you no go stop to twist the correct ways of Jehovah? 11  See! The hand of Jehovah dey against you and you go blind, you no go see sunlight for some time.” And just that time, something wey be like thick smoke and darkness cover-am, and e waka round de try to find person wey go hold im hand. 12  Then the governor, as e see wetin don happen, e believe the good news, because the things wey them teach about Jehovah really surprise-am. 13  Now Paul and the people wey de travel with-am enter boat from Pa′phos and them reach Perga wey dey Pam·phyl′i·a. But John leave them and go back to Jerusalem. 14  But, them comot from Perga and come Antioch wey dey Pi·sid′i·a. And as them enter synagogue for Sabbath day, them sitdown. 15  After them don read the Law for public together with the things wey the prophets talk, the leaders for the synagogue send message to them and talk say: “Men, our brothers, if una get any word to encourage the people, make una talk-am.” 16  So Paul stand up, and use im hand do sign, and talk say: “Men, people of Israel, and other people wey de fear God, make una listen. 17  The God of this people Israel choose our papa-papa them, and e raise the people up as them de live as strangers for the land of Egypt, and bring them come out of the place with im great power.* 18  And for about 40 years, e bear the things wey them de do for the wilderness. 19  After e destroy seven nations for the land of Ca′naan, e give their land to our papa-papa them as their property. 20  All this things happen inside the time wey dey about 450 years. “After this one, e give them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet. 21  But after them talk say them want king, God give them Saul the son of Kish, man wey come from the tribe of Benjamin, to rule them for 40 years. 22  After e remove-am, e give them David as king, person wey e talk about say: ‘I don see David the son of Jes′se as man wey de do wetin de sweet my heart. E go do everything wey I want.’ 23  As God promise, e don bring person wey go save Israel, wey be Jesus, from the family* of this man. 24  Before that person come, John don preach to all the people of Israel for open place, say make them baptize as sign to show say them don repent. 25  But as John de finish im work, e de talk say: ‘Who una think say I be? I no be the person wey una de wait for. But see! Person de come after me, wey I no even reach to loose the sandals wey e wear for leg.’ 26  “Men, our brothers, una wey come from the family of Abraham, and the other people among una wey de fear God, God don send us message about how e go save us. 27  The people wey de live for Jerusalem and the people wey de rule them no accept this person. But when them de judge-am, them make the things wey the prophets don talk to happen, and na this things them de read come out for every Sabbath. 28  Even though say them no see anything wey suppose bring death, them tell Pilate say make e kill-am. 29  And when them don do everything wey the word of God don talk about-am, them bring-am down from the pole* and put-am inside grave.* 30  But God bring-am back to life, 31  and for many days e appear to people wey follow-am from Gal′i·lee go Jerusalem. Now na this people de talk about-am to the people. 32  “So na the good news about the promise wey God don give our papa-papa them we de preach to una. 33  God don make everything for this promise happen to us wey be their children, as e bring Jesus back to life; just as them don write-am for the second psalm say: ‘You be my son; today I don be your papa.’ 34  And as e bring-am back to life make e no get body wey go rotten again, e don talk-am like this say: ‘I go show una love wey no de fail wey I don promise David, and this one na true.’* 35  So another psalm still talk say: ‘You no go allow person wey hold you tight make e rotten.’ 36  But as for David, e work for God* throughout im life, e die, them bury-am with im papa-papa them, and im body rotten. 37  But the person wey God bring back to life no rotten. 38  “So my brothers, make una know say na through this person God go forgive una sins, and na this one I de preach to una, 39  and say, the Law of Moses no make una dey free from sin, but because of this person, God go talk say anybody wey believe dey free from sin. 40  So, make una dey careful so that e no go happen to una just as the Prophets talk say: 41  ‘Make una look-am, una wey no get respect for the work of God, and make una surprise and die, because I de do work for una time, work wey una no go ever believe even if person tell una everything about-am.’” 42  Now when them de comot, the people beg them make them talk about this things for the next Sabbath. 43  So after the people wey gather for the synagogue don comot, many of the Jew people and people wey join Jew religion wey de worship God, follow Paul and Bar′na·bas. As them talk to this people, them advice them make them no comot from the special favor of God. 44  The next Sabbath, almost everybody for the city gather together to hear the word of Jehovah. 45  When the Jew people see the plenty-plenty people, their heart full with jealousy, and them start to talk wicked things against the things wey Paul de talk. 46  Then Paul and Bar′na·bas no fear to tell them say: “E dey important make them preach the word of God to una first. Since una de reject-am and una don judge unaself as people wey no reach to get life wey no go end, see! we de go meet people of the nations. 47  Jehovah don command us with this word say: ‘I don choose you as light to the nations, so that I go fit use you save people for every part of the earth.’” 48  When people of the nations hear this one, them start to really happy and to praise the word of Jehovah. And all the people wey show say them want get life wey no go end, believe the good news. 49  Another thing be say, the word of Jehovah de spread for the whole country. 50  But the Jew people turn the mind of the big women wey de fear God and the big men for the city, and them suffer Paul and Bar′na·bas and throw them outside the city. 51  So them shake the dust comot from their leg as sign against them and move go I·co′ni·um. 52  And the disciples continue to really get joy and dey full with holy spirit.
