Acts 17:1-34
17 So them travel through Am·phip′o·lis and Ap·ol·lo′ni·a and reach Thes·sa·lo·ni′ca, where one synagogue of Jew people dey.
2 So as Paul de always do, e go inside go meet them, and for three sabbaths e reason with them from the Word of God.
3 E de explain and de use the things wey them don write to prove say e dey important for the Christ to suffer and to come back to life. E tell them say: “Na this one be the Christ, this Jesus wey I de tell una about.”
4 Because of this one, some of them believe the good news and join Paul and Silas, and plenty-plenty Greek people wey de worship God join them too, together with some big women.
5 But the Jew people start to jealous. So, them gather some wicked men together wey dey the market area and wey no get work, and form group and start to turn the city upside down. Them attack the house of Ja′son and try to find Paul and Silas to bring them come outside for the people wey de make trouble.
6 When them no see them, them drag Ja′son and some of the brothers to the people wey de rule the city, and them de shout say: “This men wey don cause trouble for the earth dey here too,
7 and Ja′son don accept them as im visitors. All this men de do things wey dey against the laws of Caesar, as them de talk say another king dey wey be Jesus.”
8 When them hear this things, the plenty people and the people wey de rule the city really vex,
9 and after them don take something wey dey enough as bail from Ja′son and the other people, them allow them go.
10 As night just reach, the brothers send Paul and Silas go Be·roe′a. As them reach there, them go the synagogue of Jew people.
11 Now the people for Be·roe′a dey ready to learn pass the people for Thes·sa·lo·ni′ca, because them accept the word of God with all their heart, and them take their time de check the Word of God everyday to see whether this things na true.
12 So, plenty of them believe the good news and some of the Greek women wey people de respect together with some of the men believe too.
13 But when Jew people from Thes·sa·lo·ni′ca know say Paul de preach the word of God for Be·roe′a too, them come there to turn the mind of the plenty people and cause trouble.
14 Then at once, the brothers send Paul comot go the sea, but Silas and Timothy remain for there.
15 But the people wey de follow Paul bring-am reach Athens, and them comot after them tell them say make Silas and Timothy come meet Paul quick-quick.
16 Now, as Paul de wait for them for Athens, e* no happy at all as e see say plenty idols dey the city.
17 So for the synagogue, e start to reason with the Jew people and other people wey de worship God. And everyday for the market area, e de reason with people wey e see.
18 But some of the people wey de follow Ep·i·cu·rus* and the people wey de follow Ze′no* and wey de teach people the sense for this world, start to argue with-am and some of them de talk say: “Wetin this talk-talk man want tell us?” And other people de talk say: “E be like say e de talk about gods from another place.” This one na because e de preach the good news about Jesus and the resurrection.
19 So them hold-am and take-am go the Ar·e·op′a·gus, and talk say: “Wetin be this new thing wey you de teach people?
20 You don bring some things wey dey new to our ears, and we want know wetin this things mean.”
21 The truth be say, all the people from Athens and the strangers wey de stay* there no de use their free time do anything, instead, them go de listen to or de talk about new thing.
22 So Paul stand for where the Ar·e·op′a·gus dey and talk say:
“People of Athens, I see say for everything, e be like say una de fear the gods pass other people.
23 For example, as I de pass, I take time look the things wey una de worship. I even see one altar wey them write ontop say, ‘For God Wey We No Know.’ So wetin una no know wey una de worship, na this one I de tell una about.
24 The God wey make the world and all the things for inside, as Lord of heaven and earth, e no de stay for temples wey them make with hand.
25 And e no de expect anything from people hand like say e need anything, because na im de give everybody life, and air to breathe, and everything.
26 And na from one man e make all the nation of people, make them stay for the whole earth, and e don choose the time wey e fix and set boundary for where people go stay,
27 so that them go look for God, if them fit really try find-am and really see-am, even though say true-true, e no far from each one of us.
28 Because of God, we get life and we de waka and we dey, even as some of una own people wey de write, don talk say, ‘We be im children too.’
29 “So since we be the children of God, we no suppose think say this God be like gold or silver or stone, like something wey humans use their sense carve and draw.
30 Na true say before-before God no do anything, because people no know wetin them de do, but now e de tell everybody for everywhere say make them repent.
31 Because e don fix day wey e want judge the earth for the correct way and e go use one man wey e don choose, and e don make everybody dey sure about this one as e bring this man back to life.”
32 Now when them hear say people wey don die go come back to life, some of them start to laugh and other people talk say: “We go hear this one another time.”
33 So Paul leave them,
34 but some people join-am and believe the good news. Among them na Di·o·nys′i·us wey be judge for the court of Ar·e·op′a·gus, and one woman wey im name na Dam′a·ris, and other people apart from them.
