Titus 1:1-16

  • Greeting (1-4)

  • Paul tell Titus to appoint elders for Crete (5-9)

  • Give strong correction to people wey no de gree obey (10-16)

1  Me, Paul, wey be slave of God and apostle of Jesus Christ, wey my faith and my work as apostle na the same with the faith of the people wey God don choose and e agree with the correct things about the truth. This one still agree with the worship wey we de give God with all our heart.  And this one na from the hope of life wey no de end, wey God wey no fit lie don promise long time ago.  But when im own time reach, e use the preaching work wey e don give me to make people know im word, as God our Savior don command.  I de write to Titus, wey be like real pikin to me, and wey get the same faith like us: Make the special favor and peace from God our Papa and Christ Jesus our Savior, dey with you.  I leave you for Crete so that you go fit correct the things wey no correct* and appoint elders from city to city as I don give you direction say:  elder must be man wey nobody fit talk say e de do bad thing,* na husband of one wife, e get children wey de serve God wey nobody fit talk say them de do bad thing or say them no get control.  As servant of God, overseer* must be person wey nobody fit talk say e de do bad thing. E no de do only wetin dey im mind, e no de quick vex, no be drunkard, e no de like trouble,* e no get long throat to gain something wey no be im own.  But e de like to welcome people, e like good thing, e de reason well,* e de do the correct thing for God eye, e hold God tight, and e de control imself.  E de really follow the true word* for the way e de teach, so that e go fit encourage* people with the correct teaching* and still correct people wey de talk against this teaching. 10  Plenty men dey wey no de gree obey. Them de talk empty talk and de deceive people, and many of them de talk say person must circumcise. 11  E dey important to close their mouth. This one na because this men don continue to scatter families finish as them de teach things wey them no suppose teach, so that them go get gain for bad way. 12  One Crete person wey be their own prophet talk say: “Crete people de always lie, them be wicked bush animal, lazy people wey like to over chop.” 13  This one na true. Because of this reason, continue to give them strong correction so that them go get strong faith. 14  And them no go accept lie-lie story wey Jew people de talk and laws from men wey no de support the truth again. 15  Everything dey clean to clean people, but nothing dey clean to people wey no clean and wey no get faith, because their mind and their conscience dirty. 16  Them de talk for public say them know God, but the things wey them de do show say them don reject God, because them don rotten and them no de obey, and them no qualify for any kind of good work.
