CHAPTER 8

The Congregation “Get Peace for Some Time”

The Congregation “Get Peace for Some Time”

Saul wey de suffer Christians come be person wey no tire to preach

As e dey for Acts 9:1-43

1, 2. Wetin Saul plan to do as e de go Damascus?

SOME people dey for road de go Damascus because of the evil things wey them want do. Them go force Jesus disciples comot from their house, arrest them, disgrace them, and drag them go Jerusalem to face the Sanhedrin wey go punish them.

2 The person wey de lead the group na Saul and e don join kill person before. a Saul and some other people carry Jew religion for head. And e dey there de look as this people de stone Stephen till e die. (Acts 7:57–8:1) The one wey Saul don de suffer the disciples for Jerusalem no do-am. E carry the matter for head and e ready to suffer other Christians wey dey different-different place. E want kill anybody wey de follow “The Way.”—Acts 9:1, 2; check the box “ Authority Wey Them Give Saul to Go Damascus.”

3, 4. (a) Wetin happen to Saul? (b) Which questions we go answer?

3 At once, one light from heaven shine around Saul. The people wey de travel with-am see the light, them shock sotey them no fit talk anything. Saul come blind and e fall for ground. E come hear one voice from heaven wey talk say: “Saul, Saul, why you de suffer me?” Saul surprise and e ask say: “Who you be, Lord?” E say: “I be Jesus, the person wey you de suffer.” This answer really touch Saul.—Acts 9:3-5; 22:9.

4 Wetin we fit learn from wetin Jesus tell Saul? Wetin we fit learn from the things wey happen the time wey Saul become Christian? After Saul become Christian, the congregation get peace for some time. Wetin we fit learn from the way them use this time?

“Why You De Suffer Me?” (Acts 9:1-5)

5, 6. Wetin we fit learn from wetin Jesus tell Saul?

5 When Jesus stop Saul as e de go Damascus, e no ask-am say: “Why you de suffer my disciples?” As we see for up, e talk say: “Why you de suffer me?” (Acts 9:4) True-true, Jesus de feel the pain wey im disciples de suffer.—Matt. 25:34-40, 45.

6 If people de suffer you because you de serve Jehovah, know say Jehovah and Jesus know wetin you de face. (Matt. 10:22, 28-31) E fit be say, Jehovah no go comot the problem now-now. Remember say, Jesus see wetin Saul do when them de kill Stephen and when Saul de drag im disciples comot from their house for Jerusalem. (Acts 8:3) But, Jesus no stop the suffer wey im disciples de face. Even with this one, Jehovah use Jesus help Stephen and the other disciples to fit endure.

7. Wetin you go do to fit endure when them de suffer you?

7 You fit endure too when them de suffer you, if you: (1) Put-am for your mind say you go continue to dey Jehovah side no matter wetin happen. (2) Beg Jehovah make e help you. (Phil. 4:6, 7) (3) When people de suffer you, no do them back, leave them for Jehovah. (Rom. 12:17-21) (4) Trust Jehovah say, e go help you endure until e go comot the problem.—Phil. 4:12, 13.

“Saul, My Brother, the Lord . . . Don Send Me” (Acts 9:6-17)

8, 9. Wetin fit dey Ananias mind about the work wey Jesus give-am?

8 After Jesus answer Saul when e ask say, “Who you be, Lord?” Jesus come tell-am say: “Get up, and go inside the city, and them go tell you wetin you need to do.” (Acts 9:6) As Saul don blind, the men wey follow-am come hold im hand go Damascus. E fast and pray for three days. Jesus don tell one of im disciple for Damascus about Saul. This disciple name na Ananias and “all the Jew people wey de live for there de talk well” about-am.—Acts 22:12.

9 Just think about how this work go don make Ananias happy and still make-am worry. Na Jesus wey be the Head of the congregation de talk to-am direct, and de give-am this special assignment. This one na big honor, but the work still make-am fear! When Jesus tell-am say, make e go meet Saul, Ananias talk say: “Lord, I don hear many people talk about this man, about all the bad things wey e don do to your holy ones for Jerusalem. And e don come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest everybody wey de call your name.”—Acts 9:13, 14.

10. Wetin we learn about Jesus from the way e treat Ananias?

10 Jesus no vex for Ananias because e talk how e de feel about the work. But Jesus tell-am exactly how e go do the work. Jesus still honor Ananias as e tell-am why e want make e do this work. Jesus tell-am say: “This man be like container wey I don choose to carry my name to people of the nations and to kings and to people of Israel. And I go show-am clear all the things wey e must suffer for my name.” (Acts 9:15, 16) Ananias no waste time obey Jesus. E go meet Saul and tell-am say: “Saul, my brother, the Lord Jesus wey appear to you for the road wey you pass come, don send me so that you go fit see again and your body go fit full with holy spirit.”—Acts 9:17.

11, 12. Wetin we learn from the story about Jesus, Ananias, and Saul?

11 This story about Jesus, Ananias, and Saul teach us many things. For example, e teach us say Jesus de direct the preaching work as e don talk say e go do. (Matt. 28:20) Even though say Jesus no de talk direct to people today, e de use the faithful slave direct the preaching work. And e don choose them now to take care of im servants for im house. (Matt. 24:45-47) Publishers and pioneers for congregation de follow Governing Body direction, as them de go search for people wey want know more about Christ. As we see for Chapter 7, many of this people don first pray for help before Jehovah Witness go preach to them.—Acts 9:11.

12 Ananias obey and accept the work wey Jesus give-am and Jehovah bless-am. You de obey the command to continue to preach well, even if the work fit make you fear? To de go house to house and to de talk to stranger de make some people fear. And e still de hard some people to preach for where them de work, for street, for telephone or to write letter. Na big honor for Ananias as e help Saul get holy spirit because e no let fear stop-am. b Ananias succeed because e trust Jesus and e see Saul as person wey fit be im Christian brother. Like Ananias, we fit stop to fear if we trust say Jesus de direct the preaching work, if we de feel for people and if we de see say people wey de make us fear fit be our brothers tomorrow.—Matt. 9:36.

“E Start to Preach About Jesus” (Acts 9:18-30)

13, 14. If you de study Bible but you never baptize, wetin you fit learn from Saul example?

13 Saul no waste time do wetin e don learn. After im eye open, e baptize and join the disciples for Damascus. But e no stop for there, “e no waste time start to preach about Jesus for the synagogues, say Jesus na the Son of God.”—Acts 9:20.

14 If you de study Bible but you never baptize, you fit be like Saul wey no waste time to do wetin e learn? Na true say Saul see miracle wey Jesus do for-am and this one move-am to baptize. But remember say other people still see miracles wey Jesus do but this one no move them to follow Jesus. For example, some Pharisee see Jesus as e de heal one man wey get problem for hand, and many Jew people know say Jesus bring Lazarus come back to life. Even with wetin them see, them no still get faith for Jesus and some even go against-am. (Mark 3:1-6; John 12:9, 10) But Saul no be like this people, e don change. Why Saul start to follow Jesus, when other people no gree follow Jesus? Because e fear God pass man and e really value wetin Jesus don do for-am as e show-am mercy. (Phil. 3:8) If you self do like this, you no go allow anything stop you make you no preach and qualify to baptize.

15, 16. Wetin Saul do for the synagogues, and wetin Jew people for Damascus do?

15 Just think about how the people go don shock, surprise, and even vex as them see Saul de preach about Jesus for the synagogues. Them talk say: “No be this man attack the people for Jerusalem wey de call this name?” (Acts 9:21) When Saul de explain say e don get faith for Jesus, e “prove-am clear say Jesus na the Christ.” (Acts 9:22) But no be everybody de believe something even if them see better proof. Some people no de gree because them no want change wetin them believe or because them dey proud. But, Saul still continue to preach.

16 Three years after Saul become Christian, Jew people for Damascus still dey against Saul. Them come de plan to kill-am. (Acts 9:23; 2 Cor. 11:32, 33; Gal. 1:13-18) When Saul come know wetin them de plan, e use sense leave that place. E gree make them put-am inside basket and bring-am down through one hole for the city wall. Luke talk say the people wey do this one for Saul that night, na “im [Saul] disciples.” (Acts 9:25) This one show say e still get some people wey listen to Saul preaching for Damascus, accept wetin them hear, and come be Jesus followers.

17. (a) How some people de behave when them hear Bible message? (b) Wetin we go continue to do, and why?

17 The first time when you start to tell your family and friends about wetin you de learn, you fit de think say, many of them go accept the message because you de show them from Bible and de prove-am clear. E fit be say some don accept-am, but many no gree accept. True-true, some people for your own family, fit don treat you like enemy. (Matt. 10:32-38) But if you continue to de improve for the way you de explain Bible and you de show better-better character wey Christian suppose get, even the people wey dey against you, fit change.—Acts 17:2; 1 Pet. 2:12; 3:1, 2, 7.

18, 19. (a) When Barnabas make the apostles accept Saul, which better thing come happen? (b) How we fit follow the example of Barnabas and Saul?

18 When Saul enter Jerusalem, the disciples no believe say e don be Jesus disciple, and person fit understand why them no believe. But when Barnabas come tell them say Saul don really be disciple, the apostles accept-am, and e stay with them for some time. (Acts 9:26-28) Even though say Saul no shame to preach, e use sense do the work. (Rom. 1:16) E no fear to preach for Jerusalem even though say, na there e first start to suffer Jesus disciples. Jew people no happy at all, because Saul, wey them think say go be their leader to de suffer and kill Jesus disciples, and wey go really carry the matter for head, don be Christian now. Them come de plan to kill-am. “When the brothers know about this one, them take-am go down to Caesarea and send-am to Tarsus.” (Acts 9:30) Saul follow the way Jesus de lead the congregation, and im and the congregation gain.

19 Nobody tell Barnabas make e help Saul before e do-am. E clear say this thing wey Barnabas do, really help im and Saul to be tight friend as them de put body for Jehovah work. You de use your mind help new people for congregation, like Barnabas do? You de follow them go preaching and de help them near Jehovah more-more? If you do like this, Jehovah go really bless you. If you be new publisher, you de do like Saul, and gree make people help you? If you de follow publishers wey don sabi preach well-well, the way you de preach go de better more-more, you go de happy well-well pass before, and you go get tight friends and una friendship go last for long time.

“Plenty People Believe the Lord” (Acts 9:31-43)

20, 21. Wetin Jehovah servants for the apostles time and for our time don do when them get “peace for some time”?

20 After Saul become Christian and escape from Jerusalem, “the whole congregation for Judea and Galilee and Samaria get peace for some time.” (Acts 9:31) Wetin the apostles do for this time wey peace dey? (2 Tim. 4:2) Bible talk say them use the time make their faith “dey strong.” The apostles and other brothers wey de take the lead, help the disciples get strong faith and help the congregation “continue to show say them de fear Jehovah and de live their life with the comfort wey them receive through the holy spirit.” For example, Peter use this time help the disciples for Lydda wey dey the level land of Sharon. The work wey e do make many people for there start to de “follow the Lord.” (Acts 9:32-35) The disciples no let other things comot their mind from the work, but them continue to care for each other and de preach. Because of this one, people for the congregation “continue to plenty more-more.”

21 Around 1990, Jehovah Witness for many country come get “peace for some time.” Some governments wey don de suffer Jehovah people for many years just stop to rule. This one come make-am easy to fit preach for all this place where them ban our work before. Them even comot the ban for some place. Many of our brothers use this chance wey them get to really preach and many people listen.

22. How you fit use your time well when peace dey?

22 You de preach well when peace dey? If you dey free to worship God for your country, Satan no go like make you really put body for Jehovah work, e go like to make you use all your time find money. (Matt. 13:22) No let anything comot your mind from Jehovah work. Anytime wey peace dey, use-am well. See-am as chance wey you get to continue to preach well and to help brothers and sisters for congregation get strong faith. Remember say things fit change quick-quick.

23, 24. (a) Which lessons we learn from wetin happen to Tabitha? (b) Wetin we don decide to do?

23 Think about wetin happen to one disciple wey im name na Tabitha, or Dorcas. E de stay for Joppa wey no far from Lydda. This sister use im time and the things wey e get well. “E de do plenty good things and de give plenty gifts to help poor people.” E come start to sick, and e die. c E really pain the disciples, for Joppa say e die. But na the widows e pain pass because Tabitha dey kind to them. When Peter reach the house wey them de prepare Tabitha for burial, Peter do one miracle wey any of Jesus apostle never do before. Peter pray, and bring Tabitha come back to life! Just think how the widows and the other disciples de happy, when Peter call them enter the room and show them Tabitha wey don come back to life. This thing wey happen go really help them face the problem wey de come for front! “People for the whole of Joppa hear about this one, and plenty people believe the Lord.”—Acts 9:36-42.

How you fit copy Tabitha example?

24 We learn two better lesson from the story about Tabitha. (1) We fit die anytime. So e good make we get good name with Jehovah when we still dey alive. (Eccl. 7:1) (2) People wey don die go surely come back to life. Jehovah see all the good things wey Tabitha do for other people and e bless-am. Na so e go still remember our hard work and bring us come back to life if we die before Armageddon. (Heb. 6:10) So whether we de endure “hard time” now or de enjoy “peace for some time,” make we continue to preach well about Jesus Christ.—2 Tim. 4:2.

a Check the box “ Saul Wey Be Pharisee.”

b Many times wey people receive the gifts of holy spirit for the apostles time, na through the apostles them receive-am. But for this story about Saul and Ananias, Jesus tell Ananias wey no be one of the apostles, make e give Saul the gifts of holy spirit. After Saul become Christian, plenty time pass before e meet the 12 apostles. But e fit be say, even for this time, e still do the work wey Jesus give-am. Jesus make sure say Saul receive holy spirit wey go give-am power to do the preaching work.
