Why King David allow men wey no be Israel people to dey part of im army?
SOME of the people wey join King David army wey no be Israel people na, Zelek wey come from Ammon, Uriah wey come from Heth, and Ithmah wey come from Moab. a (1 Chron. 11:39, 41, 46) Some people wey be Cherethites, the Pelethites, and the Gittites dey among them. (2 Sam. 15:18) E be like say Cherethites and the Pelethites na Philistia people. (Ezek. 25:16) Gittites fit be the people wey come from Gath wey be one city for Philistia.—Josh. 13:2, 3; 1 Sam. 6:17, 18.
Why David allow men wey no come from Israel join im army? E dey sure say them de support-am with all their heart. And the one wey dey important pass be say, them love Jehovah. For example, one book wey be The New Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible, talk about Cherethites and Pelethites, e say: “Them use all their heart support David when things hard for-am, when e be king.” How? When the men of Israel leave David and start to support one man wey de cause trouble for David, wey im name na Sheba, the Cherethites and the Pelethites continue to support David. Them fight against Sheba and stop the trouble wey e de cause. (2 Sam. 20:1, 2, 7) Another time, King David son wey be Adonijah try to become king instead of Solomon. But the Cherethites and the Pelethites continue to support David and help to make Solomon king. Because na Solomon Jehovah choose to become king for Israel, after David.—1 Ki. 1:24-27, 38, 39.
Another person wey use all im heart support David na Ittai, wey be Gath person. Ittai and im 600 soldiers support David when Absalom turn against David and e try to make the men of Israel support-am, instead of King David. David first tell Ittai say make Ittai no fight for-am because Ittai no be Israel person. But Ittai tell-am say: “As far say Jehovah dey alive and as far say my lord the king dey alive, anywhere wey my lord the king dey, whether na for death or na for life, na there your servant go dey!”—2 Sam. 15:6, 18-21.
Ittai support David with all im heart because na Jehovah choose-am to be king
Even though say the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and the Gittites no be Israel people, them believe say Jehovah na the true God, and say na David be the person wey Jehovah don choose to be king for Israel. E go don really make David happy say e get this kind people for im army!
a The law wey Jehovah give Israel people for Deuteronomy 23:3-6, talk say make anybody wey come from Ammon or Moab, no join Israel people. But e be like say the law mean say Ammon and Moab person no go ever fit register to become Israel person. The law no talk say them no go fit stay for the land of Israel at all or do things with them.
