Question Wey Some People Don Ask

Question Wey Some People Don Ask

The decision to mark person for congregation as 2 Thessalonians 3:14 talk, na elders go decide or na each Christian?

Apostle Paul write letter to Christians for Thessalonica, say: “If anybody no de obey the things wey we talk for this letter, make una mark the person.” (2 Thess. 3:14) Before-before, we be talk say na elders go do this one. If person for congregation no gree follow Bible advice even as them don try to correct-am plenty times, elders go give talk to warn the congregation. After, brothers and sisters for congregation no go spend time with this person wey them don mark, apart from meeting and preaching.

But we need to change wetin we don talk before. Why? Because for here, Paul de talk about the decision wey each publisher go need to make by imself because of some kind things wey fit happen. So elders no go need to give talk to warn the congregation. Why we change the way we understand 2 Thess. 3:14? Make we see wetin Paul de talk about when e give this advice.

Apostle Paul notice say some people for congregation “de behave anyhow.” Even though say Paul don give them advice for this matter before, them no gree follow the advice. When e visit them before, e tell them say “If anybody no want work, make e no chop.” But some people still no want gree work to care for theirself, even though say them fit work. And, them de put mouth for matter wey no concern them. How Christians suppose treat anybody for congregation wey de behave anyhow?—2 Thess. 3:6, 10-12.

Apostle Paul talk say: “Make una mark the person.” The Greek word wey them use for here de talk say you go need to know this kind person, and still know say im behavior fit affect you for bad way. Paul de give this advice to everybody for congregation, no be just the elders. (2 Thess. 1:1; 3:6) So any Christian wey notice say brother or sister for congregation no de gree follow the advice for Bible fit decide say e go “stop to do things together” with-am.

This one mean say brothers and sisters for congregation go treat the person like say them don remove-am from the congregation? No. Because Paul talk say: “Make una continue to advice-am as brother.” So each Christian go still go meetings and preaching with the person wey e mark, but e go need to decide whether e go continue to follow-am do things wey we de do to enjoy ourself together. Why? Paul talk say: “So that e go shame.” When we stop to do things with our brother or sister, e fit help-am to change im behavior.—2 Thess. 3:14, 15.

For this our time, how Christians fit follow this advice? The first thing na to really dey sure say the person wey we want mark de ”‏behave anyhow”‏ as Paul talk. Paul no de talk about people wey wetin them choose dey different from wetin we choose for matter wey each Christian go decide wetin e go do, and e no de talk about people wey don do wetin make us vex. Instead, Paul de talk about people wey continue to disobey clear advice from Bible, and still decide to do wetin Bible talk say e no good.

Today, if we notice say any brother or sister for congregation continue to disobey clear advice from Bible, a each Christian go decide say e no go follow this kind person do things wey we de do to enjoy ourself. Since this na wetin each person go decide by imself, we no go tell another person apart from our family member wey de stay with us for the same house. But we go still de go meeting and preaching with the person wey we mark. When e don change, we go start to spend time with-am again and do other things wey we de do to enjoy ourself.

a For example, Christian fit decide say e no go work to care for imself even though say e get power to work, or e fit decide say e go enter relationship with person wey no de worship Jehovah, or e fit de talk bad about the direction wey the organization de give or de spread gossip for congregation. (1 Cor. 7:39; 2 Cor. 6:14; 2 Thess. 3:11, 12; 1 Tim. 5:13) People wey continue to do this kind things de “behave anyhow.”
