“Listen Well to Wetin the Person Wey Get Sense De Talk”

“Make you really listen well to wetin the person wey get sense de talk.”—PROV. 22:17.

SONG 123 De Follow Wetin Jehovah Arrange

WETIN WE GO LEARN? *

1. Why person fit advice us, and why all of us need-am?

ALL of us need advice sometimes. For some situation, we fit ask person wey we respect make e give us advice. For some other times, brother for congregation wey de worry about us fit tell us say we want “do wetin no correct,” or something wey we go regret after. (Gal. 6:1) Or advice fit come when person correct us after we don make serious mistake. No matter the reason why they give us advice, we suppose follow the advice. Na we go gain when we do like that, and e fit save our life!—Prov. 6:23.

2. As e dey for Proverbs 12:15, why we suppose listen to advice?

2 The Bible verse wey they take this topic from, de encourage us to “listen well to wetin the person wey get sense de talk.” (Prov. 22:17) Nobody know everything. Person dey wey go always sabi some things pass us or get more experience pass us. (Read Proverbs 12:15 and footnote.) So when we de listen to advice, e show say we dey humble. This one show say we know where our power reach, and say we need help to succeed for our plans. Jehovah use e spirit direct wise King Solomon make e write say: “When plenty people dey wey de give advice, we go succeed.”—Prov. 15:22.

Inside this two types of advice, which one de hard you pass to accept? (Check paragraph 3-4)

3. Which ways we fit receive advice?

3 We fit receive advice for two ways. E fit come direct, and e fit no come direct. We fit read something for Bible or for one of our book them, and this one make us stop and think about the thing wey we de do. And then the thing wey we read move us to change the way we de think and the thing wey we de do. (Heb. 4:12) We fit talk say this kind advice no come direct. But one elder or another mature brother for congregation, fit show us something wey we need to change for our life. We fit talk say this kind advice na direct advice. If the love wey person get for us fit move the person to give us advice from Bible, we suppose dey happy and listen to the advice, and try to use the advice for our life.

4. As e dey for Ecclesiastes 7:9, wetin we no suppose do when person advice us?

4 E fit really hard us to accept advice wey come for direct way. This one fit even make us vex. Why? Even as we de gree say we de make mistake, if person tell us about one mistake wey we don make, the advice fit hard us to accept. (Read Ecclesiastes 7:9.) We fit no accept say na our fault. We fit de suspect why the person give the advice or de vex for the way e give the advice. We fit even de talk bad about the person wey give the advice, and de think say: ‘Which right e even get to advice me? E think say e better pass me?’ And if we no like the advice, we fit troway-am or tell another person to advice us, because we think say e go tell us wetin we go like to hear.

5. Wetin we go talk about for this article?

5 For this article, we go talk about examples of some people for Bible wey reject advice and people wey accept-am. We go still talk about things wey go help us accept advice and gain from the advice.

THEY REJECT ADVICE

6. Wetin we learn from the thing wey King Rehoboam do about the advice wey e receive?

6 Make we see the example of Rehoboam. When e become king for Israel, e people come ask-am for something. They tell Rehoboam make e reduce the load wey e papa Solomon don give them. Rehoboam do well as e meet the elders for Israel to ask them for advice, make e know how e go answer the people. The elders advice the king say if e do wetin the people want, they go always dey e side. (1 Ki. 12:3-7) Maybe Rehoboam no like that advice, so e go meet the men wey e grow up with for advice. This men fit dey around 40 years, so they go don get some experience for life. (2 Chron. 12:13) But this time, they give Rehoboam bad advice. They advice Rehoboam make e add to the load of the people. (1 Ki. 12:8-11) Rehoboam receive two different advice. So e for don pray to Jehovah to know which of the advice e suppose follow. Instead, e accept the advice wey e like pass, and e do the thing wey the young men talk. The result really bad for Rehoboam and for the people of Israel. Today, no be everytime the advice wey we receive go be wetin we like to hear. Even with that one, if the advice na from Bible, we suppose accept-am.

7. Wetin we learn from the example of King Uzziah?

7 King Uzziah reject advice. E enter the part for Jehovah’s temple wey only priest them suppose enter, and e try to burn incense. The priest them for the temple tell Uzziah say: “Uzziah, you no suppose to burn incense to Jehovah! Na only the priest them suppose burn incense.” So wetin Uzziah do? If to say e dey humble, accept the advice and comot for the temple quick-quick, maybe Jehovah for forgive-am. Instead, Bible talk say: “Uzziah . . . vex.” Why e reject the advice? E go don feel say, as king, e get the right to do anything wey e want do. But Jehovah no see the matter like that. Because Uzziah do something wey e no get right to do, God make leprosy catch-am, and e “continue to be leper until the day wey e die.” (2 Chron. 26:16-21) The example of Uzziah teach us say, no matter who we be, if we reject advice from Bible, Jehovah no go dey happy with us again.

THEY ACCEPT ADVICE

8. Wetin Job do when e receive correction?

8 Apart from the bad examples wey we just talk about, Bible still talk about better examples of people wey God bless because they accept advice. Make we talk about Job. Even though say Job love God and e want do wetin God want, e no dey perfect. When Job face serious stress, e talk some things wey no correct. Because of that one, e receive correction from Elihu and Jehovah. So wetin Job do? E humble e self and accept the correction. E talk say: “I talk when I no really understand . . . I regret say I talk wetin I talk, and I repent with dust and ashes.” Jehovah bless Job because e dey humble.—Job 42:3-6, 12-17.

9. How Moses show good example for us for the way e accept correction?

9 Moses na another better example. E accept correction after e don make serious mistake. One time dey wey e really vex and e no honor Jehovah. Because of this one, God no allow Moses to enter the Promise Land. (Num. 20:1-13) When Moses beg Jehovah make e change e decision, Jehovah tell Moses say: “No ever talk to me about this matter again.” (Deut. 3:23-27) This one no make Moses vex. Instead, e accept the decision wey Jehovah don make, and Jehovah continue to use Moses to lead Israel people. (Deut. 4:1) Job and Moses accept correction, and this one make them to be better example for us to copy. Job change the way e de think, e no give excuse. Moses continue to dey faithful even as e no enter the Promise Land wey e don de hope for. This one show say Moses accept the correction from Jehovah.

10. (a) Wetin Proverbs 4:10-13 talk about the things wey person de gain when e accept advice? (b) Which better character some people don show when they receive advice?

10 We de benefit when we copy the example wey faithful men like Job and Moses show us. (Read Proverbs 4:10-13.) Plenty of our brothers and sisters don copy them, and they don accept advice. See wetin one brother for Congo wey e name na Emmanuel talk about the advice wey e receive. E say: “Some mature brothers for my congregation see say I go soon spoil my friendship with Jehovah, and they try to help me. I follow their advice, and this one help me make I no enter trouble.” * One pioneer for Canada wey e name na Megan talk something about advice, e say: “No be wetin I de always like to hear, but na the thing wey I need to hear.” One brother from Croatia wey e name na Marko talk say: “They say make I stop to do the work wey I be de do for congregation. But when I think about that time, I see say the correction wey they give me help me to make my friendship with Jehovah strong again.”

11. Wetin Brother Karl Klein talk about to accept advice?

11 Another example of person wey gain as e accept correction na Brother Karl Klein. E be serve as Governing Body member. For e life story, e talk about one time wey e receive strong correction from Brother Joseph F. Rutherford. The two of them na close friends. Brother Klein talk say e no first happy for the advice wey e receive. E talk say: “The next time wey [Brother Rutherford] see me, e smile and greet me say, ‘Karl, how you dey!’ But because I still de vex, I use nose greet-am. But e no waste time to answer me back say, ‘Karl, make you dey careful! Devil de try to catch you!’ Shame catch me, so I talk say, ‘Oh, I no de vex for you o, Brother Rutherford.’ But e know say I de vex. And so e warn me again say, ‘No problem. Make you just dey careful. Devil want catch you.’ Wetin e talk really dey correct! When we continue to vex for our brother, especially when e talk something wey e suppose talk . . . , we de make-am dey easy for Devil to catch us.” * (Eph. 4:25-27) Brother Klein accept the advice from Brother Rutherford, and they continue to be tight friends.

WETIN FIT HELP US TO ACCEPT ADVICE?

12. When we dey humble, how this one fit help us to accept advice? (Psalm 141:5)

12 Wetin fit help us to accept advice? We need to dey humble and remember say we no dey perfect, and say we fit do things wey really dey foolish sometimes. As we don talk before, Job no be de think for the correct way. But after, e change the way e de think. And because of that one, e receive blessing from Jehovah. Why? Because Job dey humble. E show say e really dey humble as e accept the correction from Elihu, even though say e really senior Elihu. (Job 32:6, 7) And when we dey humble, this one go help us accept the correction, even when we feel say we no do wetin go make us receive that kind correction, or when the person wey de give the correction young pass us. One elder for Canada talk say: “Since we no de see ourself the way other people de see us, how we go fit grow if nobody advice us?” All of us need to grow for the way we de show the different-different character wey the spirit de give, and the way we de do our preaching work.—Read Psalm 141:5.

13. How we suppose feel about the advice wey they give us?

13 See advice as love from God. Jehovah want the best thing for us. (Prov. 4:20-22) Jehovah de show say e love us when e use e Word, our book them, or any brother or sister for congregation, to give us advice. Hebrews 12:9, 10 talk say: “God de correct us for our own good.”

14. Wetin we suppose put for mind when person de give us advice?

14 Put mind for the advice, no be for the way the person give the advice. Sometimes, we fit feel say the person wey give us advice, no give-am for correct way. The truth be say, anybody wey want give advice suppose give-am for way wey go make-am easy for person to accept-am. * (Gal. 6:1) But if to say na we person de give advice, e good make we put our mind for wetin we fit learn from the advice, even though say the person wey de give the advice no de give-am for correct way. We fit ask ourself this questions: ‘Even though say I no like the way the person give the advice, I fit learn something from wetin the person talk? I fit do like say I no see the mistake of the person wey de give the advice, and learn from the advice?’ E go really good if we find way to gain from any advice wey we receive.—Prov. 15:31.

ASK FOR ADVICE AND GET PLENTY GAIN

15. Why we suppose ask for advice?

15 Bible encourage us to ask for advice. Proverbs 13:10 talk say: “People wey de ask for advice go get sense.” This one really dey correct! Servants of Jehovah wey de ask for advice instead of them to wait for person to come give them advice, go mature pass people wey no de ask for advice. So, go ask for advice by yourself. No wait for person to come meet you first.

Why the young sister de ask the mature sister for advice? (Check paragraph 16)

16. Which situation them fit make us ask for advice?

16 Which time we fit ask for advice from our Christian brothers and sisters? Make we see some situation. (1) One sister tell one publisher wey really get experience to join-am conduct one study. And after, e ask the sister wetin e fit do to make the way e de teach de better. (2) One sister wey never marry want buy some cloth. So e ask one mature sister wetin e think about the cloth them wey e don select. (3) One brother want give e first public talk. So e tell another brother wey really sabi give talk well, to sofri listen as e go practice the talk. And make e tell-am the things wey e need to do, so that e go sabi give talk well. Even brother wey don de give talk for many years, fit still ask another brother wey really sabi give talk well, for advice about wetin e fit do to sabi give talk well and then follow the advice.

17. Wetin we fit gain when we listen to advice?

17 As time de go, all of us go receive advice, whether for direct way or no be for direct way. When this one happen, remember the point them wey we just talk about. Continue to dey humble. Put mind for the advice, no be for the way the person give the advice, and follow the advice. They no born any of us with sense. But, when we “listen to advice and de take correction,” Bible promise us say we go “get sense.”—Prov. 19:20.

SONG 124 No Leave Jehovah

^ par. 5 Servants of Jehovah know say na important thing to listen to advice from Bible and follow-am. But no be everytime e de easy to accept advice. Why e be like that? And wetin fit help us to gain from the advice wey they give us?

^ par. 10 We change some names.

^ par. 14 For the next article, we go talk about how the people wey de give advice fit do-am with sense.
