Wetin e talk really make me laugh because I no see this my friend as person wey know anything about Bible. So I ask-am say: “Wetin you know about Bible?” E no answer me at once. Na later e tell me say e mama na Jehovah Witness, so e don learn somethings about Bible from-am. This one make me tell-am say make e tell me more about Bible.

Na so we talk about the matter reach midnight. My friend tell me say Bible talk say na Satan de rule this world. (John 14:30) E fit be say you know that one from when you be small pikin, but na that day be the first time wey I hear-am and e make me want learn more. Wetin I learn before be say, na one good God de rule this world. But that teaching no make sense because of wetin I de see for this world. Even though say na 26 years I dey, I don see plenty things wey worry my mind.

My papa na one of the pilot wey de carry America solders wey de use plane fight. So from small pikin, I don already know say nuclear war fit happen and the army ready to shoot nuclear bomb anytime. I dey college for California when war happen for Vietnam. So I join the students wey de protest but police people use their stick pursue us, and shoot us tear gas, we no fit breath and see road. That time na really time of trouble and people no gree follow Law. Them kill some people wey de do politics, people protest and riot. That time people confuse and no know wetin them go do.

For 1970, I start to work for north coast of Alaska so that I go fit make plenty money. After, I enter plane and travel go London. When I reach London, I buy motorcycle, and ride-am de go south side for London, but I no get any place for mind wey I de go. After some months, I reach Africa. As I de travel, I meet some people wey wish say them go fit run leave all their trouble.

So because of wetin I don see and the things wey I don hear, e really make sense to me say na Satan de control this world. But one question wey come my mind na, if no be God de control this world, wetin  e de do? I really want know the answer to this question.

After some months, I see the answer to my question. And as time de go, I know many men and women wey hold God tight no matter how their condition be and I love them.

When I go back to London, I go meet my friend mama and e give me one Bible. Later when I go Amsterdam, for Netherlands, one Jehovah Witness see when I de read the Bible for under streetlight, so the brother help me understand more things from the Bible. Another place wey I go na Dublin for Ireland and na for there I see Jehovah Witness People branch office. I go there and knock for the front door. Na for branch office there I meet Brother Arthur Matthews, the brother get sense and sabi plenty things. I tell-am say I like make person study Bible with me, and e gree say e go study Bible with me.

I put all my heart for the study and read the books wey them don produce, go reach the big-big ones (bound volumes) and still read the whole Bible. I really enjoy-am. When I go meeting for Kingdom Hall, I see say even small pikin them know the answer to questions wey people wey go school well-well, don de find the answer for many years. Questions like: ‘Why bad things de happen? Who be God? Wetin de happen to people wey don die?’ Na only Jehovah Witness People come be my friends. This one de easy for me because na only them I know for the whole country. Them help me love Jehovah and want do wetin e want.

I baptize for 1972. I start to pioneer after one year and join one small congregation wey dey Newry for Northern Ireland. I rent one small house wey dey alone for one side of the mountain. Some cow dey for one field wey near the house, so na them I de use practice my talk. As I de give the talk, them go de look me like say them de listen to me as them de chop the grass wey dey their mouth. Even though say them no fit tell me where I make mistake, but them de help me learn how to give talk for front of plenty people. Jehovah organization make me special pioneer for 1974, later Nigel Pitt join me for the pioneering work, na so me and-am become friends for life.

That time serious fight de happen for Northern Ireland. So some people start to call Northern Ireland, “the land of bomb and bullet.” Serious fight de happen for street, them de hide shoot people, them de use gun fight, and de put bomb for people motor.  Na politics and religion de cause problem for there. But Protestant and Catholic people know say Jehovah Witness People no de do politics this one make us fit de preach with no problem. People wey we de preach to know when and where fight go dey, so them de let us know so that we go dey careful.

Even with this one, problem still dey. One day, me and one pioneer wey e name na Denis Carrigan go preach for one town wey dey near where we de stay and no Jehovah Witness for the town. Na only once we don preach the area before. For there, one woman talk say we be soldiers from Britain wey de pretend to be ordinary people so that them fit see how the area be. E fit be say e talk like that because we no de speak English the way people for the area de talk. Wetin e talk really make us fear. This one na serious problem because if person greet and talk to soldier, them fit kill-am or shoot am for knee. As we stand for outside de wait for bus with the fear wey dey our body, we see one motor wey drive enter the place wey the woman dey. We see say the woman come out, de talk to the two men wey dey inside the motor and de point us finger. The men wey dey inside the motor drive come meet us and ask us some question about the time wey the bus suppose come. When the bus come, the two men talk with the bus driver. We no hear wetin them talk. Another person no dey inside the bus, so we come de think say they don tell the driver say make e carry us go outside the town so that them go deal with us for there. But wetin we think no happen. As we de come down from the bus, I ask the driver say: “The two men ask you anything about us?” E talk say: “I know who wuna be, so when them ask about wuna, I tell them who wuna be, so make wuna no worry, nothing go happen to wuna.”

For one district assembly a wey we do for Dublin for 1976, I meet one special pioneer sister wey come from England. E name na Pauline Lomax, e love Jehovah, e dey humble and e good. Sister Pauline and e younger brother don be Jehovah Witness from when them small. After one year, me and Pauline marry and continue to do our special pioneer work for Ballymena wey dey Northern Ireland.

I serve as circuit overseer for some time for Belfast wey dey Londonderry and other dangerous place. Many of our brothers and sisters for the circuit wey we serve don troway their bad belief from their former religion, bad mind wey them get for people from other country, and to hate people. Them do this one because of their faith, so that them go fit worship Jehovah, and this one really touch us. Jehovah bless and protect them because of their faith.

I stay for Ireland for ten years. For 1981, them invite us to the 72nd class of Gilead school. After we graduate, them send us go Sierra Leone for West Africa.

We live with 11 brothers and sisters for one house wey our organization build for people wey de do missionary work. And them really be better people, we get one kitchen, three toilet, two bathroom, one telephone, one washing machine, and one drying machine. Them de take light and bring-am plenty times and nobody de know when them fit take-am or bring-am. Rat de disturb for ceiling well-well and cobra de enter the room wey de under-ground.

Even though say condition get as e be, we still enjoy our preaching work. People for there de respect Bible and them de listen well-well. Many people study Bible with us and become Jehovah Witness. The people  for the area de call me “Mister Robert,” and them de call my wife Pauline, “Missus Robert.” As time de go, the work for branch office de plenty more-more, so e no come de make me go preaching every time like before. As the people no de see me like before, them start to call my wife “Missus Pauline,” and call me “Mister Pauline.” And my wife like-am like that.

Many of our brothers and sisters for Sierra Leone poor, but Jehovah dey always care for them, sometimes for special way. (Matt. 6:33) I remember one sister wey no get food for house. The only money wey e get na the one wey e fit use buy food for e self and e children that day. But the sister give the money to one brother wey de sick make e use the money buy malaria medicine. Later that day, one woman come meet this sister and give-am money say make sister do e hair for-am. This kind thing happen plenty times.

We stay for Sierra Leone for nine years. The next place wey them send us go na Nigeria Bethel. Now we don come big branch office. Na the same office work wey I do for Sierra Leone I do for Nigeria Bethel. But the one wey them give my wife different from wetin e do for Sierra Leone, and the work no easy for-am. For Sierra Leone, my wife de spend 130 hours for preaching and study Bible with plenty people. But for Nigeria Bethel, na sewing room them put-am make e de work. So na cloth wey don tear them de carry come give-am everyday make e repair. E take-am sometime to sabi how them de work for there. Na later e see say brothers and sisters really value the work wey e de do, so e continue to do e best and de encourage other brothers and sisters for Bethel.

The way them de do things for Nigeria dey new to us so we get plenty things wey we need to learn about them. When I dey my office one day, one brother bring one sister wey them just make Bethelite, as I say make I shake the sister for hand, e just lie down face ground. I surprise, two Bible verse come my mind, Acts 10:25, 26 and Revelation 19:10. So I come de wonder whether make I tell-am say make e stop. But I remember say this sister just become Bethelite, so e know wetin Bible teach about worship.

I confuse, so I no fit tell-am wetin I want tell-am well again. After them comot, I do research about wetin the sister do, na that time I learn say na so people de greet that time for some part of Nigeria. Men still de lie down for ground when them want  greet person. That na how them de show respect. No be worship, in fact, that kind thing dey Bible. (1 Sam. 24:8) I happy say I no stop-am or do wetin go make the sister feel bad.

We meet plenty people for Nigeria wey worship Jehovah well for many years. One of them na Brother Isaiah Adagbona. b E don grow small before e learn the truth but later doctor check-am and see say e get leprosy. So them carry-am go where people wey get leprosy de stay. Even though say plenty people for there dey against the truth, Brother Adagbona still help more than 30 people wey get leprosy learn the truth and form one congregation for there.

For 1996, them send us go branch office wey dey Kenya. This na the second time wey I de go Kenya. The first time na the one wey I talk about for the beginning of this story. We stay inside Bethel. Monkey plenty for the tree wey dey the branch office. Them de like collect food from some sisters wey de carry fruits. One day, one sister for Bethel forget to lock e window before e go work. When the sister come back, e see plenty monkey for e room de chop the food wey e keep. E shout and run comot. And the monkey them start to shout as them de jump comot from window.

Me and my wife join Swahili congregation. After small time, them say make I de conduct Congregation Book Study (now we de call-am Congregation Bible Study). But I still de learn the language that time. I de take time study the book well so that I go fit read the question make e dey clear. But if their answer different small from wetin I write, I no go know wetin them talk. E no easy! I no happy for the way I de teach my brothers and sisters. E touch me to see say the brothers and sisters dey humble to accept wetin the elders don arrange.

We no stay reach one year for Kenya. For 1997, them send us go Bethel for Brooklyn wey dey New York. Now we dey country where plenty people get money, but this one still get e own problem. (Prov. 30:8, 9) But even with the money we them get, this brothers still love Jehovah well-well. Our brothers de use their time and wetin them get support Jehovah organization no be to make money for theirself.

Since I start to worship Jehovah, I don see the faith wey Jehovah people show for different-different condition. For Ireland, Jehovah people show their faith even when other people for their area de fight and kill theirself. For Africa, Jehovah people show their faith even though say them poor and them de live for where other Witness no dey. For United States, Jehovah people show their faith even though say they get money. Jehovah go really de happy when e look down and see say e people de show say them love-am no matter their condition!

True-true, time dey really fly! (Job 7:6) Now, we de work with other brothers and sisters for our world headquarters wey dey Warwick for New York. And e de sweet us to de work with brothers and sisters wey love each other. We de happy, wetin we get reach us, and e de sweet us to de support our King, Jesus Christ, wey go soon bless all the people wey worship Jehovah well.—Matt. 25:34.
