Which Person You De Look?
“Na you I de look, you wey you sit-down for throne for heaven.”—PS. 123:1.
SONG: 143, 124
1, 2. Wetin e mean make person de always look Jehovah?
WE DE live for time wey ‘things really hard to handle.’ (2 Tim. 3:1) And before Jehovah come destroy this wicked world and bring peace for the earth, things go even hard more-more. Na e make e good make we ask ourself say, ‘Which person I de look make e help and direct me?’ Our first answer fit be “Jehovah,” and true-true, na the best answer be that.
2 Wetin e mean to look Jehovah? And wetin we fit do so that our eye no go comot from Jehovah when we de face big problem? Long time ago, the book of Psalms talk say make we de look Jehovah so that e go help us. (Read Psalm 123:1-4.) E talk say when we de look Jehovah, we dey like servant wey e de look e master. Wetin e mean when e talk like that? Servant know say the food and protection wey e need go come from e master. So na the master e go de look, or put e hope. But, apart from that one, e no go comot eye from e master so that e go fit know wetin the master want, and then do-am. Na so e just be with us. We suppose to read Bible everyday so that we go know wetin Jehovah want make we do, and then do-am. Only when we do this one, we fit dey sure say Jehovah go help us when we de face problem.—Eph. 5:17.
3. Wetin fit dey our mind wey e fit make us no de look Jehovah?
3 We know say e dey important make we de always look Jehovah. But sometimes, other things fit make us no look Jehovah again. This kind thing happen to Martha, wey e be tight friend with Jesus. One time, “the plenty things wey Martha busy de do, na e dey e mind.” (Luke 10:40-42) This thing happen to Martha even though say e de serve God well, and e dey with Jesus. So make we know say e fit still happen to us. But wetin fit dey our mind wey e fit make us no de look Jehovah? For this topic, we go talk about how other people their character fit make us no de look Jehovah. We go still learn wetin we fit do make that one no happen to us.
MOSES NO ENTER PROMISE LAND
4. Wetin fit make us surprise say Moses no enter the Promise Land?
4 Na Jehovah be the person wey Moses de look. E know say e go get the direction and advice wey e need from Jehovah. Bible talk say: “E continue to endure because e de see the Person wey eye no fit see.” (Read Hebrews 11:24-27.) Bible still talk say: “Israel never get any prophet again wey e be like Moses, wey Jehovah sabi face-to-face.” (Deut. 34:10) But even though say Moses dey tight with Jehovah for this kind way, e no enter the Promise Land. (Num. 20:12) Wetin make Moses no enter?
5-7. Which problem Israel people get just after they leave Egypt, and how Moses handle-am?
5 After Israel people don leave Egypt, they get serious problem even before they reach Mount Sinai. E never reach two month wey they leave Egypt wey this one happen. They begin complain say they no get water, and they talk against Moses. The problem come serious sotey Moses beg Jehovah say: “Wetin I go do with this people? Small time they go stone me!” (Ex. 17:4) Jehovah answer Moses and the thing wey e tell Moses make e do, dey clear. E talk say make Moses use e stick nack the rock for Horeb, so that water go come out. Bible talk say: “Moses do wetin Jehovah talk for front of the elders wey them dey Israel.” The people for Israel drink belleful and they no complain again.—Ex. 17:5, 6.
6 Bible talk say Moses call this place “Massah and Meribah, because Israel people quarrel and they test Jehovah when they talk say: ‘Jehovah dey with us or e no dey?’” (Ex. 17:7) The two name fit the place because they mean “Test” and “Quarrel.”
7 How Jehovah feel about wetin happen for Meribah? The thing wey the people do show say they no respect Moses. Apart from that one, e still show say they no get respect for God. Na so God feel about wetin they do. (Read Psalm 95:8, 9.) The thing wey Israel people do really bad. But Moses do wetin correct. E look Jehovah and take time follow wetin Jehovah talk make e do.
8. Which problem happen again after Israel people don waka for wilderness for almost 40 years?
8 About 40 years after this one happen, another problem like this happen again. That time, their journey for wilderness don de end. Wetin Moses * Israel people still complain again say they no get water. (Num. 20:1-5) But this time, Moses no behave well.
do? This time, Israel people reach one place, and after, the name of the place come still be Meribah. But this Meribah dey different. E dey near Kadesh, wey e no far from the place wey them go cross enter Promise Land.9. Wetin Jehovah tell Moses make e do, but wetin Moses do? (Check the first picture.)
9 Wetin Moses do when the people complain again? Moses still look Jehovah for direction. But this time, Jehovah no tell Moses make e nack the rock. God tell Moses say make e take e stick, then make e gather the people for front of the rock, and then talk to the rock. (Num. 20:6-8) But Moses talk to the rock? No. Instead, e vex for the people and e shout for them. E tell them say: “Make wuna listen, strong-head people! Na this rock we must make water come out for wuna?” Then e nack the rock, no be only one time, but two times.—Num. 20:10, 11.
10. How Jehovah feel for the thing wey Moses do?
10 The way Moses behave make Jehovah vex no be small. (Deut. 1:37; 3:26) Why Jehovah vex like that? One of the reason fit be say Moses no follow the new direction.
11. As Moses nack the rock, why this one fit make the people think say no be Jehovah do miracle?
11 Another reason fit dey wey e make Jehovah vex. The rock for the first Meribah really strong. No matter how person nack the rock, nobody de expect make water come out. But the rock for the second Meribah dey different. Plenty of the rock for there na the kind one wey them de call limestone. Because this kind rock no strong like other rock, water de fit pass-am small-small go gather for under. And person fit dig hole for the rock so that water go come out. So when Moses nack this kind rock two times, instead make e talk to the rock, you no feel say this one go fit make Israel people think say the water come out by e self and no be Jehovah do-am? * We no really dey sure.
MOSES NO DO WETIN GOD TALK
12. Which other reason dey wey e fit don make Jehovah vex with Moses and Aaron?
12 Another reason dey wey e fit don make Jehovah vex for Moses and Aaron. Moses tell the people say: “Na this rock we must make water come out for wuna?” When Moses use the word “we,” e fit be say e de talk about e self and Aaron. Wetin e talk show say e no respect Jehovah as the Person wey e do the miracle. This one fit be true because Psalm 106:32, 33 talk say: “They provoke God for the water wey e dey Meribah, and Moses suffer because of them. They do wetin pain Moses, and e vex talk anyhow.” * (Num. 27:14) The truth be say, wetin Moses do no make the people praise Jehovah. Na e make Jehovah tell Moses and Aaron say: “Wuna two no do wetin I talk.” (Num. 20:24) Wetin them do na really serious sin!
13. Why the punishment wey Jehovah give Moses correct and partial no dey?
13 Because na Moses and Aaron de direct the people, Jehovah expect them make they show good example. (Luke 12:48) Before this time, Jehovah no allow a whole generation enter the Promise Land because of their strong-head. (Num. 14:26-30, 34) And na the same punishment Jehovah give Moses because e no do wetin e talk. E no allow Moses enter the Promise Land. So this punishment dey correct and partial no dey.
WETIN CAUSE THE PROBLEM
14, 15. Why Moses no do wetin Jehovah talk?
14 Wetin make Moses no do wetin Jehovah talk? Make we still check Psalm 106:32, 33 again. E talk say: “They provoke God for the water wey e dey Meribah, and Moses suffer because of them. They do wetin pain Moses, and e vex talk anyhow.” Even though say na Jehovah Israel people provoke, na Moses vex. Because Moses no control e self, e no think about wetin fit happen from the thing wey e want talk.
15 Moses allow e eye comot from Jehovah because of other people their character. The way Moses handle the problem the first time, dey correct. (Ex. 7:6) But e fit be say as the people don de do strong-head for plenty years, Moses tire for their strong-head. Maybe Moses think about only how e de feel, instead of how e go make Jehovah get praise.
16. Why the mistake wey Moses do concern us?
16 Moses serve God well as prophet. But e allow e eye comot from Jehovah and e sin. If this kind thing fit happen to Moses, e fit happen to us too. Like Moses, small time we too go enter the new world wey Jehovah don promise us. (2 Pet. 3:13) Nobody among us want miss that wonderful promise. But if we want enter the new world, our eye no go comot from Jehovah so that we go de always do the thing wey e want. (1 John 2:17) So, which lesson we fit learn from the mistake wey Moses do?
NO ALLOW WETIN PEOPLE DO REMOVE YOUR EYE FROM JEHOVAH
17. Wetin go help us make anything no make us tire?
17 No allow anything make you tire. We fit de face the same problem everytime. But Bible tell us say: “Make we no tire to do wetin good, because time de come wey we go gain if we no tire.” (Gal. 6:9; 2 Thess. 3:13) When we de face the same problem or person de make us vex everytime, we de control our temper? We de control wetin we go talk? (Prov. 10:19; 17:27; Matt. 5:22) When something vex us, make we “leave the judgement for God.” (Read Romans 12:17-21.) If na Jehovah we de always look, we go dey patient. We go leave the problem for e hand make e handle-am the way e want. This one go show say we de respect Jehovah. But if we try to handle things by ourself, or we do ‘do me I do you,’ we no de show Jehovah respect.
18. Wetin we need to remember about the direction wey the organization de give us?
18 Take time follow new direction. We de take time follow the new way Heb. 13:17) And we go still make sure say we “no do anything pass wetin they don write.” (1 Cor. 4:6) When we do like that, we go always de look Jehovah.
wey Jehovah say make we do things? If we de do-am, we no go de do things the way we de always do-am before. Instead, we no go waste time to follow the new direction wey Jehovah de use e organization give us. (19. Wetin we fit do make other people their mistake no spoil our friendship with Jehovah?
19 No allow other people their mistake spoil your friendship with Jehovah. If we de always look Jehovah, we no go allow other people their character make us vex, or spoil our friendship with God. This one really dey important especially if Jehovah de use you to direct e people, just as Moses do that time. Na true say all of us need to work hard and obey Jehovah so that we go get life. But make we remember say Jehovah no de condemn person for every small thing wey e do, and e no dey harsh. (Phil. 2:12) The more Jehovah give us plenty work to do for e organization, na so e go expect more from us. (Luke 12:48) And if we really love Jehovah, nothing go spoil our friendship with Jehovah.—Ps. 119:165; Rom. 8:37-39.
20. Wetin we don decide say we go do?
20 For this time wey we de live, things no easy. So, make we de always look Jehovah, the Person wey e “sit-down for throne for heaven.” This one go help us de understand wetin e want make we do. No ever allow the character of other people spoil your friendship with Jehovah. We don learn this important lesson from wetin happen to Moses. Make this one always dey our heart and mind. Remember, we no go too vex with the mistake wey people around us de do. Instead, make we decide say our eye go de “look Jehovah our God, until e go show us favor.”—Ps. 123:1, 2.
^ par. 8 This Meribah dey different. No be the first Meribah near Rephidim, wey they still de call Massah. This second Meribah dey near Kadesh. But, because Israel people quarrel for this two place, they call them Meribah.—Go check the map for Appendix B3 for New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.
^ par. 11 One professor wey e name na John A. Beck talk say Jew people get one tradition about this story. For the tradition, the strong head people talk say wetin Moses do no be miracle because e know say that kind rock get water. So they want make e do the miracle again for another rock. But this one na just tradition.
