EACH of us want make people think say we be good person. But today, e hard to be good person for this world because many people “hate good thing.” (2 Tim. 3:3) They reject wetin Jehovah say make we de follow for inside Bible. The thing wey Jehovah say e bad, they say “e good.” And the thing wey Jehovah say e good, they say “e bad.” (Isa. 5:20) Another thing wey de make-am hard for us to dey good be say, the way or the place wey we grow fit don affect us for bad way, and we no dey perfect. So, we fit feel like one sister wey e name na Anne. * Even as this sister don serve Jehovah for many years, e talk say: “I de struggle to believe say I fit be good person.”

But the fine thing be say, all of us fit be good person! Goodness na part of the fruit wey God’s holy spirit de produce. And God’s spirit get power pass anything wey we fit de struggle with for this world, the sin wey dey our body, and the way we don live our life before. So, make we learn wetin goodness really be, and how we fit get this character more.

Just to make-am simple, goodness na when person dey good or e get good character. E still mean to de do good and correct things, without any bad thing. Person wey dey good de always look for how e go help and do good things for other people.

You fit don see say some dey ready to do good things for their family members and friends everytime. But na there goodness end? The truth be say, nobody good finish. Bible talk say: “Nobody dey righteous for this earth wey de always do good, wey no de ever sin.” (Eccl. 7:20) Apostle Paul talk true about himself, when e talk say “nothing good dey inside” e body, or e “flesh.” (Rom. 7:18) So, e really dey clear say if we want get this character to dey good, we need to learn from Jehovah because goodness come from Jehovah.

Na Jehovah put the law about wetin good and wetin bad. Bible talk about Jehovah say: “You dey good and all your work dey good. Teach me your laws.” (Ps. 119:68) Make we discuss the two things about the goodness of Jehovah wey this verse talk.

Jehovah dey good. Jehovah dey good sotey e no fit do wetin bad, and e no de fail to do wetin good. Goodness na part of Jehovah.  All the work of Jehovah dey good. Goodness de show for everything wey Jehovah de do. Bible talk say: “Jehovah dey good to everybody, and all e work de show say e get pity.” (Ps. 145:9) When Jehovah de do good e no de add partial. Because of this one, e give everybody life and the things wey they need to live. (Acts 14:17) Jehovah still de show say e dey good when e forgive us. Jehovah create us like himself, so that we go fit get the kind character wey e get. (Gen. 1:27) But that character no de just come like that. Bible talk say we must “learn to do good.” (Isa. 1:17) But, how we fit learn how to do good? Make we see three ways.

Number one, we fit pray for holy spirit, because e fit help Christians to dey good for the eyes of God. (Gal. 5:22) Yes, God’s holy spirit fit help us learn and love wetin dey good and reject wetin dey bad. (Rom. 12:9) Bible talk say, Jehovah fit make us “strong for every good thing wey [we] de do and talk.”​—2 Thess. 2:16, 17.

Number three, we go try our best to “imitate wetin dey good.” (3 John 11) Examples wey we fit imitate dey Bible. The best example to imitate na Jehovah and Jesus. But we fit still imitate other examples wey people know for Bible time. Two of them na Tabitha and Barnabas. (Acts 9:36; 11:22-24) You fit benefit well-well from their good example if you study wetin they write about them for Bible. Make you find out wetin they do to help other people. Think of wetin you fit do to help people for your family or for congregation. And make you still think about the better things wey happen to people wey do good things for other people. You fit benefit too, just like them.

We fit think about some people today wey de do good things. For example, think about hard working congregation elders wey “love to de do good.” Another people wey we no go forget to  talk about na our faithful sisters wey de live as good examples with the way them de talk and do things. Them de really show say they be “teachers of wetin good.” (Titus 1:8; 2:3) One sister wey her name na Roslyn talk say: “My friend de do everything wey e fit do to help and encourage other people for congregation. She de think about their condition and many times, she de try to help them or give them gift, even if na small one. True-true, that my friend na really good person.”

Jehovah encourage e people to “search for wetin good.” (Amos 5:14) If we do like that, we no go only love the things wey Jehovah say e good, but our heart go move us more to do wetin good.

We no need to think say we must do big things for people or buy expensive things for them, before we go fit be good person. Make we use the example of artist explain-am. Artist no de use only one or two big brush do e painting work. Instead, na many small-small brush e de use form the design for e painting. Na so e still be with us, if we do many small-small things to help people, this one go show say we dey good.

Bible encourage us to “prepare” and dey “ready” to help and do good for people. (2 Tim. 2:21; Titus 3:1) If we put eye for ground and try to understand the condition of people, we fit see wetin we go do to make our neighbor happy. And “make the thing be wetin good for the person, so that e go dey strong.” (Rom. 15:2) This one fit mean say we go give something wey we get. (Prov. 3:27) For example, we fit invite person come eat or spend time together with us to encourage each other. If we know person wey de sick, we fit send card to the person, call for phone or visit the person. Like Jehovah, we de try to do good thing to everybody. One of the best way to treat people well without partial na to preach the good news of the Kingdom to everybody. Just as Jesus command, we go try to do good even to people wey hate us. (Luke 6:27) No be bad thing to dey good and help people, because “no law dey against things like this.” (Gal. 5:22, 23) When we no tire to do good even when people de treat us bad, or we dey for problem, our good character fit make other people come serve and praise Jehovah.​—1 Pet. 3:16, 17.

Bible talk say: “The person wey dey good go get the gain of all the good wey e de do.” (Prov. 14:14) Wetin be some of the gain? When we dey good to people, e go make-am dey easy for them to treat us well. (Prov. 14:22) Even if they no treat us well, make we no tire to de do good to them. Anytime wey we do good and think about wetin good, Jehovah know. (Eph. 6:7, 8) So, how Jehovah de pay us for our good? Bible talk say: “The person wey dey good de get favor from Jehovah.” (Prov. 12:2) So make we continue to dey good. Jehovah promise say: “Glory, respect and peace go dey for everybody wey de do wetin good.”​—Rom. 2:10.
