LIFE STORY

Jehovah Bless My Decision Well-Well

Jehovah Bless My Decision Well-Well

Day don de break, we don finish to put tracts under doors for people house for the territory wey they give us to preach. The year that time na 1939, we comot for house for midnight, we drive more than one hour to one town wey the name na Joplin for southwestern Missouri, U.S.A. As we finish to preach we enter our car and drive to the place wey we de meet. We wait there for other groups to come with their car. You fit de wonder why we go preach early morning before sun come out, and then leave the territory quick-quick. After, I go talk the reason.

I GLAD say my papa and mama na Christian, and they train me to know Jehovah. My papa name na Fred Molohan and my mama name na Edna Molohan. They don be Bible Students (Jehovah Witness) for 20 years before they born me for 1934. We dey live for Parsons, one small town wey e dey for southeastern Kansas. Almost everybody for our congregation na anointed Christian. Our family no de miss meeting, and we de go preach to people everytime. Every Saturday afternoon we de go do ‘street work,’ but now we de call-am public witnessing. Sometimes e de tire us, but my papa de always buy ice cream for us when we finish.

Our small congregation get big territory. Plenty small-small town and plenty farm for other country wey near our place na part of our territory. Anytime wey we go preach to the farmers, when we give them our publications, instead of them to give us money, they go give us vegetable, fresh egg (the ones wey they just lay) or chicken wey e dey alive. We de collect this things because my papa don already contribute money for the publications before. Those food really help us.

DIFFERENT-DIFFERENT PREACHING CAMPAIGN

My papa and mama get phonograph wey them de use for preaching. Phonograph na one small machine wey them de use play record to people. I too small that time to use-am. But I remember say when my papa and mama go check their return visit and Bible study, I de help them as them de play the record of Brother Rutherford talk.

Me and my papa and mama for the front of our sound car

The car wey my papa de use that time na 1936 Ford, and e tie one big speaker on-top the car. So, the car come turn to sound car. The car really help us, because we use-am tell people the Kingdom message. My papa go first play the music to draw the heart of people, and after, e go play public talk from Bible. When the talk finish, we go share publication for people wey they want-am.

For one small town wey the name na Cherryvale, for Kansas, the police for there tell my papa say they no go allow make e drive the sound car as e de play the record for one park where people de relax and enjoy theirself on Sundays. But e fit drive–am as e de play the record outside the park. My papa no argue at all, e just move the car go the street opposite the place so that people wey them dey the other place go still de hear the record, and e continue. E de always sweet me to join my papa and my senior brother wey e name na Jerry for preaching.

As 1930 de end, we start different-different special preaching campaigns to quickly cover the part of our territory where them de attack us because of our preaching work. We de wake up before day-break (as we de do for Joplin, Missouri) and we de sofri-sofri put tracts or small-small books under people door for their house. Then, after, we go meet for outside the town to check whether police don catch or arrest any of us.

For those years, another thing wey e de sweet me for preaching na wetin we de call ‘information march.’ To make people know about the Kingdom, we go wear sign board wey we de call ‘placard’ and we go de march for town. I remember one time wey some of our friends wear the signboard wey they write “Religion Is a Snare and a Racket.” They waka for the whole town, and they trek reach 1.6 kilometers (about 1 mile). After, they come our house. We happy well-well say they no face any problem, and they see plenty people wey like their work.

CONVENTIONS WHEN I DEY YOUNG

Our family de always travel from Kansas go Texas to attend conventions. That time my papa de work for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (them still de call-am M-K-T, or Katy, Railroad). Because of that one we de travel well-well for free. We de go visit our family people and attend conventions together. My mama elder brother wey e name na Fred Wismar, and e wife, Eulalie, de live for the place wey them de call Temple, for Texas. This my uncle learn the truth when e dey young, around 1900. E baptize and share wetin e learn with e sisters, my mama dey among e sister wey learn the truth. Brothers and sisters know my uncle well-well for the whole central Texas, because e serve there as zone servant (now we de call-am circuit overseer). My uncle na good man, e de always dey happy, and you go happy too if wuna dey together. E love the truth well-well, and e good example really help me when I dey young.

For 1941 our family use train travel go one big convention for St. Louis, Missouri. They say make all the young people come sit-down for one special place wey they keep for them for front, so that they go hear the talk wey Brother Rutherford want give. The topic of the talk na “Children of the King.” Brother Rutherford and e assistants give all the young people gift when the talk finish. They share the book wey the name na Children for us, and e pass 15,000 young people wey enjoy the program.

For April 1943 we attend one assembly for Coffeyville, Kansas. The topic na “Call to Action.” Na for that assembly, they announce say the new Theocratic Ministry School go start for all the congregation. And they share one small book wey we go de use for the school, the book get 52 lessons. Na that same year I do my first student assignment. That assembly dey special for me because na there I baptize. I baptize with two other brothers for one cold water wey e no too far from there.

I REALLY LIKE TO SERVE FOR BETHEL

I finish secondary school for 1951, and na that time I need to decide wetin I go use my life do. My brother wey be Jerry don work for Bethel before, and I really want work for there too. So, I fill Bethel form and send-am go Brooklyn office. E no too take time, for March 10, 1952 they invite me for Bethel. The thing wey I decide na wetin really help me to serve Jehovah well.

For my mind, I really like to work for printery so that I go de help to produce our magazine and other books. But, they say make I work as waiter, and after, I work for kitchen. I no get the opportunity to work for printery at all. But, I enjoy my work as waiter because I learn plenty things. Our work for kitchen na shift, this one really help me because I de get off time during the day, that time de dey quiet because other people dey for their work. I de use this my quiet time go Bethel library to do my personal Bible study and think well about wetin I learn. This one really make my faith grow and my friendship with Jehovah strong more. E still move me to make up my mind say I go use my life serve Jehovah for Bethel, as I fit serve reach. My brother comot for Bethel for 1949 and marry Patricia, but their house no far from Brooklyn. They really help and encourage me when I just come Bethel new.

Small time after I come Bethel, they start to find some brothers wey sabi give talk well, so that they go add their name to the list of Bethel speakers. Branch office de send the brothers wey their name dey the list to visit congregations wey far reach 322-kilometers (200-mile) from Brooklyn. This brothers go give public talk and work with the congregation for preaching. I dey part of the people wey they choose. Fear de catch me, na so I de shake de give my first public talk, and that time public talk na one hour. Na train I de enter when I want go visit any congregation. I remember wetin happen one Sunday afternoon wey cold dey for 1954. I enter the train wey de go New York, and I suppose reach Bethel for evening. But as we de go, strong breeze de blow with snow, and the electric engine of the train stop to work. We no reach New York that day, na Monday morning we reach around five o’clock. From the train station, I find my way go Brooklyn. As I reach, I go kitchen straight go start work. I come late small, and I tire well-well because I no sleep the whole night. But the joy wey I get pass any problem wey I face. The brothers and sisters for the congregation wey I serve, and the new friends wey I meet really give me joy.

As we de prepare to do broadcast from the WBBR studio

When I still dey new for Bethel, they say make I join people wey de do one Bible study program for our radio station, WBBR. Na once every week we de do-am. That time, our studios dey for second floor of 124 Columbia Heights. Brother A. H. Macmillan, na longtime member of the Bethel family, e de show for the radio program well-well. People know this brother as Brother Mac, na correct example e be for all the young people for Bethel because e hold Jehovah tight even when e no dey easy.

We de share this WBBR handbill for preaching so that people go know about-am

For 1958 my work change. My work na to help the graduates for Gilead School get visa, and arrange how they go travel. This brothers and sisters really like Jehovah work. To use plane travel cost well-well that time. So na only some of the graduates de use plane travel. Plenty of the people wey they send to Africa and Asia travel with cargo ship. But after, the price for plane come down, and we start to use plane send the graduates to their assignment.

I de arrange the diploma for Gilead students before the graduation program

I TRAVEL FOR MANY CONVENTION

For 1960 my work increase, they say make I arrange to charter aeroplane for people from United States to Europe for the 1961 international conventions. I attend the international convention wey them do for Hamburg, Germany. After the convention, me and three other brothers from Bethel rent one car, and we drive from Germany go Italy. We go visit the branch office for Rome. From there, we travel go France, we cross the Pyrenees Mountains, and enter Spain. They ban our preaching work for Spain that time. We try give our brothers for Barcelona some magazines wey we wrap like say na gift. E sweet us well-well to meet this brothers! From there we drive go Amsterdam, and enter plane back to New York.

After about one year, my work for Bethel increase again, they say make I arrange for some people wey they don select to travel for some special international convention for the whole world. Na the “Everlasting Good News” Assembly of 1963. The 583 people wey they don choose go travel go around the world for conventions. They go travel go Europe, Asia, and the South Pacific. They go still go Honolulu, Hawaii, and Pasadena, California. After, they travel go some Bible lands, Lebanon and Jordan. This one na special travel because they go learn many things wey Bible talk about the lands. Apart from to arrange plane for them and hotel wey they go stay, our Bethel department arrange all the visa wey they need, since they go stop for different-different country.

I COME GET NEW TRAVEL PARTNER

The year 1963 na special year for me for another reason. For June 29, 1963 I marry Lila Rogers wey come from Missouri, and e don serve for Bethel for three years. One week after our wedding, me and Lila join for the group wey them de visit the world, and we visit Greece, Egypt, and Lebanon. From there we enter aeroplane from Beirut go one small airport for Jordan. But because they ban our work for Jordan, and government no de gree give Jehovah’s Witness people visa to go there, we come de wonder wetin go happen when we reach there. But when we reach there, we surprise to see wetin happen. We see plenty brothers and sisters stand for the airport with sign board wey they write “Welcome Jehovah’s Witnesses”! And we really happy to see the lands wey Bible talk about with our own eyes! We see many place for there. We visit the place wey Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob live, and the place wey Jesus and the apostles preach. We still visit the place wey Christianity start to spread go other place for the world.—Acts 13:47.

For 55 years now, Lila don be my correct partner for all our assignment together. We visit Spain and Portugal many times when they ban our work for there. We encourage the brothers and sisters for there and bring them publication and other things wey they need. We even visit some of our brothers wey dey prison for Cádiz, Spain. I happy well-well say I try give talk wey encourage them.

We dey with Patricia and Jerry Molohan; we de go the 1969 “Peace on Earth” Convention

Since 1963, I don help to arrange for people to travel for international conventions and visit many place, like Africa, Australia, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Hawaii, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico. Me and my wife don enjoy many convention wey we no fit forget, like the one wey we attend for 1989, for Warsaw, Poland. Many brothers from Russia attend that big convention—and na their first time! We meet many brothers wey them dey prison before for some years because of their faith.

I de travel go encourage missionaries and other brothers and sisters for different-different branch office for the world. This one na another assignment wey I really enjoy, and na big favor! Na South Korea we travel go for our last branch visit, and we meet 50 of our brothers wey them dey prison for Suwon. They no de feel bad about their condition, and them de wait for when they go de do their work again without any problem. Their faith really encourage us!—Rom. 1:11, 12.

AS THE WORK DE MOVE, I GET MORE JOY

I don see how Jehovah de bless e people with more publishers for all this years. From about 100,000 publishers when I baptize for 1943, to more than 8,000,000 people wey them de serve Jehovah for 240 lands today. The hard work of the Gilead graduates help, because na them dey front for this work. Na correct blessing for me to work with this plenty missionaries for all this years, and help them so that they go fit reach where they say make they go!

I dey happy say I choose to use my life serve Jehovah for Bethel when I still dey young. Jehovah don really bless me for everything. Apart from the joy wey we get for our Bethel service, me and my wife really enjoy our preaching with different-different congregations for Brooklyn for over 50 years, and we don make many friends.

I still de enjoy my Bethel service as my wife de support me everyday. Now I don pass 84 years. Even though say I don old, I fit still de do better work. I de help to handle branch mails.

Me and my wife today

I glad say I be part of this wonderful organization wey Jehovah de use, and to dey alive see the difference between Jehovah’s servants and people wey they no de serve Jehovah. Wetin Malachi 3:18 talk dey clear, e say: “And wuna go still see how righteous person dey different from wicked person. And how person wey e de serve God dey different from person wey e no de serve God.” Everyday, we de see say things for this world wey Satan de control de worse more-more and people no get hope. The things wey de happen no de really make people dey happy. But the people wey love and de serve Jehovah dey happy even for this wicked world, and they get sure hope for future. Na big favor we get to preach the good news! (Matt. 24:14) We really de wait for the day when God go bring e Kingdom with all the blessing wey e don promise us. That day go soon reach. Part of the blessings wey God promise us be say, we no go sick and die again. When e bring e Kingdom, e go destroy this Satan’s wicked world. And all the people wey dey Jehovah side for this earth go live forever.
