Abantu abacindezelekile nabakhungathekile nabo baye bangenela i-yoga ukuze bathole induduzo namakhambi. Umsuka wegama elithi “yoga” uhlobene nowegama lesiNgisi elisho “ijoka.” Lingasho ukuhlanganisa noma ukufaka ejokeni ndawonye noma ukubophela ejokeni, ukulawula noma ukuqondisa. KumHindu, i-yoga iyikhono noma ukuqeqeshwa okuholela ekubeni munye namandla amakhulu noma umoya ongaphezu kwemvelo. Iye yachazwa ‘njengokuboshelwa ndawonye ejokeni kwawo wonke amandla omzimba, engqondo nawomphefumulo kuNkulunkulu.’

Izinqubo ze-yoga zaqale zadluliselwa ngomlomo. Kamuva zabhalwa ngokuningiliziwe ngungqondongqondo waseNdiya oyi-yogi uPatañjali zaba yi-Yoga Sutra, namanje eseyincwadi eyisisekelo yokufundisa i-yoga. Ngakho siyaphinda siyabuza: ‘Ingabe umuntu angayenza i-yoga ukuze nje azivivinye umzimba abe nempilo nengqondo ezolile, kodwa angazihileli enkolweni?’ Ngokwemvelaphi yayo, kusobala ukuthi impendulo ingu-cha.

Ingakufakaphi I-yoga?

Umgomo we-yoga njengendlela yokuziqeqesha uwukuholela umuntu esimweni esingokomoya sokuba ‘sejokweni’ noma ukuhlanganiswa nomoya ongaphezu kwemvelo. Yimuphi lowo moya?

Encwadini ethi Hindu World, umlobi uBenjamin Walker uthi nge-yoga: “Kungenzeka yayiyinqubo yokuqala yenkambiso yemilingo, futhi i-yoga namanje isasho futhi isahlangene nokulumba nobuthakathi.” Izazi zefilosofi ezingamaHindu ziyavuma ukuthi ukwenza i-yoga kunganikeza amandla angaphezu kwawemvelo, yize ngokuvamile zithi lona akuwona umgomo oyinhloko we-yoga. Ukubona i-yogi ilele embhedeni wezipikili noma ihamba emalahleni ashisayo kungabonakala kuwukukhohlisa kwabanye, kube yihlaya kwabanye. Kodwa lezi zenzakalo zivamile eNdiya, njengokuma ngonyawo olulodwa ugqolozele ilanga amahora amaningi nokubamba umoya okwenza umuntu akwazi ukugqitshwa esihlabathini isikhathi eside. Ngo-June 1995, i-Times yaseNdiya yabika ukuthi intombazanyana eneminyaka emithathu nengxenye ubudala yalala phansi ingqondo yayo iluthekile, kwadluliswa imoto enesisindo esingamakhilogremu angaphezu kwangu-750 phezu kwesisu sayo. Isixuku samangala lapho ivuka ingenamyocu. Lo mbiko wanezela: “Kwakungamandla e-yoga uqobo lwawo.”

UMose waxwayisa ‘ngombhuli, noma ohlola imihlola, noma owenza imilingo, noma umlumbi.’ (Duteronomi 18:9, 10) Lezi zinto ziyisinengiso kuNkulunkulu ngoba ziyimisebenzi yamademoni neyenyama enesono.—Galathiya 5:19-21.

AmaKristu Awanakuyikhetha

Kungakhathaliseki ukuthi abeluleki bezempilo baphika bathini, i-yoga ayigcini ngokuvivinya umzimba. Incwadi ethi Hindu Manners, Customs and Ceremonies ilandisa ngalokho okwenzeka emathwaseni amabili e-yoga ayefundiswa yi-guru. Elinye lacashunwa lithi: “Ngazama ngendlela engaphezu kweyemvelo ukubamba umoya isikhathi eside ngangokunokwenzeka, ngiphefumula kuphela lapho sengizoquleka. . . . Ngolunye usuku, emini bebade, kwaba sengathi ngibona inyanga ekhanya bhá, okwakungathi iyahamba iya ngapha nangapha. Ngesinye isikhathi ngazicabanga ngisebumnyameni obukhulu kusemini bebade. Umqondisi wami . . . wajabula kakhulu lapho ngimxoxela ngale mibono. . . . Wangiqinisekisa ukuthi akusekude ukuba ngithole imiphumela emangalisa nakakhulu ngenxa yokuphenduka kwami.” Indoda yesibili yathi: “Wangiphoqa ukuba ngigqolozele isibhakabhaka nsuku zonke ngingacwayizi futhi ngingayishintshi indlela engimi ngayo. . . . Ngezinye izikhathi ngangicabanga ukuthi ngibona izinhlansi zomlilo emoyeni; ngezinye kwakuba sengathi ngibona amabhola omlilo nezinye izinto ezivela emkhathini. Uthisha wami kwamjabulisa kakhulu ukuphumelela kwemizamo yami.”

Kubonakala sengathi i-guru yayibheka le mibono engavamile njengemiphumela efanele eyoholela enjongweni yangempela yokuzivivinya nge-yoga. Yebo, umgomo oyinhloko we-yoga yi-moksha, echazwa ngokuthi ukuhlangana nomoya othile ophakeme ongewona umuntu. Ichazwa ngokuthi “ukumiswa (ngenhloso) kokusebenza kwengqondo okuzenzakalelayo.” Kusobala ukuthi lokhu kuphambene nomgomo obekelwe amaKristu, anikwa lo myalo: “[Yethulani] imizimba yenu ingumhlatshelo ophilayo, ongcwele, owamukelekayo kuNkulunkulu, uyinkonzo engcwele ngamandla enu okucabanga. Futhi [yekani] ukulolongwa nifane nalesisimiso sezinto, kodwa maniguqulwe ngokushintsha ingqondo yenu, ukuze nizitholele ngokwenu intando kaNkulunkulu enhle neyamukelekayo nepheleleyo.”—Roma 12:1, 2.

Ukuthi umuntu ukhetha yiphi indlela yokuzivivinya umzimba okwakhe. Nokho, amaKristu awanakuvumela lutho lonakalise ubuhlobo bawo noJehova uNkulunkulu—kungaba ukuvivinya umzimba, indlela yokudla, ukuphuza, ukugqoka, ukuzijabulisa, nanoma yini enye. (1 Korinte 10:31) Kulabo abavivinya umzimba ukuze nje babe nempilo enhle, kunezindlela eziningi ezingahileli ukuzichaya ezingozini zokusebenzelana nemimoya nokulumba. Ngokugwema imikhuba nezinkolelo ezisuka enkolweni yamanga, singabheka phambili esibusisweni sikaNkulunkulu sesimiso esisha sezinto sokulunga lapho siyojabulela khona impilo ephelele emzimbeni nasengqondweni phakade.—2 Petru 3:13; IsAmbulo 21:3, 4.
